GEM TALENT

Chapter 151: 151: CAPTAIN DREAM START

William stood at the front of the line inside the dark stadium tunnel, and he took a deep breath to calm his racing heart. He held the colorful club tag in his right hand, and the heavy captain armband felt tight around his left bicep.

William led the team out of the dark stadium tunnel, and the bright stadium floodlights illuminated his bright orange jersey. When they stepped out onto the green pitch, the Blackpool fans screamed with pure joy when they saw William wearing the captain armband.

The crowd cheered loud to celebrate his birthday milestone, and the noise echoed through the massive arena. The supporters were happy for him, but a wave of concern also swept through the stands.

They were worried about the leadership on the pitch, and the big question was whether the older veteran players will listen to young William during a high pressure match. Down on the field, the pre-game rituals began.

The two captains went to the referee at the center circle for the coin toss. Kyle stood there wearing his black and white Newcastle uniform, and he gave his old friend a cold stare.

The referee stood between them with a shiny coin in his hand, and he gave them the standard pre-match instructions. He pointed his finger and said,

"I want a fair game today from both teams, so keep your tackles clean and respect my whistle. If there is a problem during the match, only the captains must speak to me, and I will not tolerate bad behavior."

Both William and Kyle nodded in agreement, shook hands with a firm grip, and exchanged their club tags. They jogged back to their respective halves to prepare for the start.

The referee checked his digital watch, raised his arm, and blew the whistle to commence the battle. Blackpool did not waste any time, and they showed their attacking intent from the very first second.

At just thirty seconds that Blackpool started the game, Walker, the Blackpool keeper, received a back pass from his central defender. Walker looked up and played a long ball high into the air toward the right wing.

He aimed the pass for Valentino, but the Newcastle left winger jumped up and played it outside the white touchline with his head. The referee pointed his hand, and it was a throw-in for the home side near the penalty area.

Reed jogged over to the sideline and grabbed the ball with both hands. He wiped the leather on his shirt to get a good grip, and he threw a very long ball deep into the crowded box.

William had been standing near the penalty spot expectant, and he tracked the flight of the ball over the tall defenders. The ball dropped into an open space, and William swung his right foot without letting the ball touch the grass. He played a beautiful volley, and his boot met the ball with a loud thuddddddddddd.

The strike possessed incredible power, and it flew past the diving goalkeeper into the top corner of the net.

GOALLLLLLLLLLLL!

The stadium erupted into total chaos, and the noise shook the concrete stands. The television commentator was shouting into his microphone about the amazing record.

It was William's first time as a captain, his first goal in the Premier League, and his first goal in his first start in the Premier League.

William turned away from the goal and ran with massive speed toward the substitute bench to celebrate with his football family. He dropped to his knees on the wet grass and did a long knee slide that left two dark marks on the pitch.

He stood up with a huge smile and hugged Fernandes and Coleman. The two veteran players embraced the young captain and praised his fantastic strike. Fernandes patted his back and said,

"That is how a true leader starts a game!"

He was so happy, and everyone on the team was also happy with the beautiful goal. The substitute players jumped out of their seats to join the group hug.

Even Coach Lincoln could not hold his joy, and the manager pumped his fists in the air while shouting words of praise from the technical area. The early goal gave the whole team a massive boost of confidence, and the players jogged back to their positions.

The referee blew his whistle, and the game resumed again from the center circle.

As Newcastle kicked off to restart the match, William noticed Kyle was angry. Kyle felt embarrassed to concede a goal so early against his former team, and William could see the frustration in the way he plays.

Kyle chased the ball with aggression and made reckless tackles in the midfield to intimidate his opponents. During one play, Kyle tried to slide and steal the ball, but William used a quick body feint to step past him.

That anger became a big advantage for William. William stayed calm and used smart body movements to avoid the aggressive lunges. The stadium clock ticked forward, and it is twenty minutes into the game.

William had been playing beautifully, and even the strong Newcastle midfielders could not do anything to stop him. The combination and cooperation between William and Eric in the center of the pitch was the absolute best so far.

They covered every blade of grass together and built an unbreakable wall. When Newcastle tried a fast counter attack, Eric made crucial interceptions to win back possession. When they tried to pass through the middle, William executed neat sliding tackles to steal the ball.

They passed the ball in tight spaces and used clever dribbling to break the opponent's high pressure. The midfield belonged entirely to the young Blackpool captain, and he controlled the tempo of the entire match.

At the thirty-first minute, the visitors pushed hard for an equalizer. A Newcastle winger sent a low cross toward the near post, and a Blackpool defender kicked it out of bounds to stop the attack.

Blackpool conceded a corner, and the tall Newcastle center backs marched into the penalty box. William stood near the penalty spot and scanned his defense.

He saw that this set piece might lead to a goal because Brooks was not marking his assigned player well. Brooks stood too far away from the tall striker, and this created a dangerous gap for a free header.

William ran straight to the scene and clapped his hands to get the defender's attention. He looked Brooks in the eyes and gave a firm command.

"Brooks, stand behind him and stay close to his back," William shouted over the crowd noise.

"Do not allow any unnecessary mistakes right now, we are winning this match and we must keep a clean sheet." Brooks nodded and grabbed the striker's shirt to establish a tight mark. Before the corner kick came in, William turned around and instructed Morgan to stand at the center of the field.

He wanted the fast striker ready for a quick counter attack. The Newcastle captain stepped up to the corner flag and whipped the ball into the crowded box. Lo and behold, Brooks jumped higher than the striker and headed it toward William.

William controlled the dropping ball with his chest and looked up. He saw Morgan running already toward the opponent's half. A Newcastle midfielder tried to pull William down, but he cut off the player holding him with a sharp turn. William sent a perfect through pass over the defensive line to find Morgan. The pass bounced in the empty space, and Morgan sprinted past the last defender. Now it is a one versus one situation versus the Newcastle keeper. The goalie rushed out of his box to block the shot, but Morgan chipped the ball high into the air. The ball floated over the keeper and dropped into the empty net.

GOALLLLLLLLLLLL!

The stadium shook with the noise of the happy fans, and the bright orange flags waved everywhere. Now Blackpool are dominating the tough match, and William is proving to everyone that he is a good leader on and off the ball.

He organized the defense, motivated his friends, and created the second goal with his incredible vision. The young boy is also making Chelsea regret from losing him.

The big London club let him go because they doubted his size, but now he was shining as a Premier League captain on his eighteenth birthday. His former club missed out on a generational talent, and the entire world could see it today on live television.

Newcastle tried to restart their attack, but their morale was broken by the second goal. Blackpool kept strong possession of the ball, passing it side to side until the clock hit the forty-fifth minute.

The referee looked at his watch and blew the half time whistle to pause the game. The Blackpool players cheered and patted each other on the back. They walked back into the tunnel with a comfortable two-goal lead, and William smiled big because his special birthday match was going perfect.
