THE BOYS: The Wrong Main Character

Chapter 93 - 94 : Teacher

"Wow, you two really suck at fighting as a team," Mark said as Yuji and Nobara walked out of the abandoned building with the rescued child.

"Half the time you were arguing with each other instead of fighting the curses. Then again... I guess you guys are still kids."

Yuji scratched the back of his head awkwardly while Nobara clicked her tongue, clearly not appreciating the comment.

"Where did that strange woman go?" Nobara asked, looking around before her eyes landed on Mark.

Compared to the woman in the dark glasses, this foreigner seemed much more normal — and for some reason that immediately made him seem more approachable.

"Oh, it’s you," Yuji said as soon as he recognized him.

"Yeah, it’s me. As for your earlier question, Gojo decided she didn’t want to babysit the three of you anymore, so she dumped that job on me."

"From today onward, I’m apparently your teacher, caretaker... or whatever title she feels like giving me."

Nobara gave him another look before nodding to herself. Compared to that strange woman... this guy is definitely better. Tokyo really is the best.

Mark crouched in front of the rescued child and smiled. "So, kid, where are you from? We’ll get you home first, and after that we can all grab some dinner. The sun’s already going down."

The moment she heard the word dinner, Nobara’s eyes sparkled. "Tokyo dinner! Let’s go eat sushi!" Then she suddenly froze.

"My luggage!" She slapped her forehead before pointing at Yuji without the slightest hesitation. "It’s still in a coin locker in Harajuku. You, go get it."

Yuji blinked. "Why me?"

"Because we won thanks to me."

"What are you talking about? I fought too!"

"My cursed technique carried the whole fight."

"I was the one punching the curses!"

"That’s only because you ate those weird things."

"Oh, come on! That still doesn’t mean you did all the work!"

Mark watched them for a few seconds before letting out a helpless sigh.

He turned toward the rescued child, gently patted him on the head, and spoke with complete sincerity.

"Yeah... you two can keep arguing all you want. I honestly don’t care." He looked at the child once more. "And kid, don’t grow up like them."

The child slowly looked from Yuji to Nobara. Seeing the two of them still arguing at the top of their lungs with no sign of stopping, he silently nodded in complete agreement.

After that, they safely dropped the child off at home. As they stepped back onto the street, Mark stretched his arms and let out a yawn.

"Well, let’s go eat. I’m already starving."

He glanced at Megumi, who was quietly looking at his phone as if none of this concerned him. A few steps ahead, Yuji and Nobara had already started another argument.

"I’m telling you, let’s get sushi!" Nobara insisted.

"No way! Ramen is way better!"

"Sushi."

"Ramen."

"Sushi!"

"Ramen!"

Mark felt a vein twitch on his forehead. This is exactly why I hate teenagers.

Without another word, he walked over and lightly smacked each of them on the head.

Bonk. Bonk. Bonk.

Even Megumi, who had been minding his own business, received one.

The three first-years turned to stare at him. Mark pointed a finger at them.

"Listen carefully, you three. My patience is terrible, I’m violent when I’m annoyed, and I get annoyed very easily."

He looked from Yuji to Nobara before glancing at Megumi. "So if any of you decide to ignore me or keep arguing over every little thing..." A smile appeared on his face. "...I’ll hit you again."

Yuji instinctively rubbed the top of his head. "You didn’t have to include me..."

"You were standing next to them."

Megumi sighed quietly, already accepting there was no point arguing. Nobara folded her arms and clicked her tongue. "What kind of teacher threatens his students?"

"The honest kind."

Yuji scratched his cheek with an awkward laugh. "...Fair enough."

"Good." Mark turned and started walking. "Now quit arguing and follow me. We’ll find a place that serves more than one thing and everyone can order whatever they want."

Yuji and Nobara looked at each other. "...Fine." "...Fine."

Neither of them sounded happy about it, but they finally stopped arguing and followed after Mark while Megumi silently slipped his phone back into his pocket.

After a few minutes, Nobara glanced sideways at Mark. "...I never asked your name."

"Mark."

"That’s it?"

"That’s it."

Nobara nodded once. "So, where are you from?"

"America."

She looked at him again, this time with genuine curiosity. "So you’re really a foreigner."

"I am."

"Huh." She continued walking while openly studying him. "I’ve never actually talked to one before."

Yuji looked over. "Really?"

"I grew up in the countryside. It’s not like foreigners just wandered through my village." She turned back to Mark. "So why are you in Japan?"

Mark scratched his cheek. "...Long story.

Nobara immediately lost interest in pressing further. "Fine. I’ll ask another time." She looked ahead at the crowded streets.

"I came to Tokyo because I wanted to live here. The countryside was too small — everyone knew everyone else’s business, and there wasn’t a single decent clothing store either."

Yuji laughed awkwardly. "I kind of get that."

Nobara pointed a finger at him. "Don’t lump me in with you. I came here because I wanted a better life. You just happened to end up here."

Yuji rubbed the back of his head with an embarrassed smile.

Mark listened to the conversation without interrupting. After a moment, Nobara looked at him again. "So... since you’re our teacher now..." She spoke matter-of-factly. "...You’re paying for dinner, right?"

Mark stopped walking and slowly turned to look at her. "...You sound exactly like Satomi."
