Unwritten Destiny [Yuri/Sapphic, Isekai, LitRPG]

The wind caught my wings and I sailed up towards the open sky. Alexis shook with nerves as I watched her over my tail feathers. It made my heart ache to see her in so much pain; to know that her suffering was because I didn't finish the job the first time. But.. the world needed gods. At least a few. I learned that lesson the hard way. It would just have to be my job to make sure that the ones who were left weren't the bad ones.

I soared over the large sprawling villa, my sharp owl eyes picking out and noting even the finest details. The main building rested in the top east corner, taking up about a third of the area inside the walls. The rest of the space contained stables, barracks, storage sheds, and a large well. I could see two pairs of guards; one each for the inside and outside of the wall. It was a thoughtful setup. Well protected against a casual attack, without wasting resources guarding against a serious attack that was unlikely to ever happen. But.. something didn't sit right. Hidden archers? That's what I'd do.

I skirted the outer wall and saw the two girls sneaking toward the back of the house. I heaved a heavy owl sigh. I explicitly told them not to leave Alexis alone. She was feeling exposed and vulnerable. Her emotional trauma was so fresh, it was still bleeding. The last thing she needed was to be left alone. That's why I hired those two idiots. I would have to kill them and try again. Hmm.. yes, I would feed their bodies to a bear. That would be entertaining. I sighed again. Alexis wouldn't like me killing them and feeding them to a bear.

I pulled into a dive and cut though the air until the last second. I flared my wings out to break my dive and Shaped back into my human essence, landing with barely a crunch of grass.

"What the fuck do you two idiots think you're doing?"

Sterling, to her considerable credit, managed to mostly stifle her scream with her hand. Moira whirled around from the door lock she had been 'whispering' to. "We're.. sneaking inside to steal the gold?" The buff woman offered up the plan as a sacrifice on the altar of my fury.

My eye twitched and my voice got dangerously low. "I told you not to leave her alone." Alexis would forgive me. I'd find a hungry bear with cubs. She would be very appreciative.

Moira fidgeted and looked to her girlfriend to save her. Sterling floundered and looked down, avoiding my eyes as she picked at her fingernails. "She seemed fine. She said she'd be okay..." She descended into a nervous whiny squeak. "We shouldn't have left her! It was wrong. I'm sorry." She grabbed Moira's hand to pull her into the apology. "We're sorry." Moira plastered on an unconvincing expression of contrition.

I blew my bangs out of my eyes. "Just get on with it then. There are at least two sets of guards; one pair patrolling either side of the wall. And I'd be surprised if there aren't also a pack of archers tucked away somewhere. I'll check on my love, who you left completely alone, and return."

Sterling gave me a nod as Moira turned back to the lock. With a shimmer of magic and a flap of my wings, I climbed up and soared through the air. I flew around to the front wall and almost fell out of the air. She's gone. Where the fuck did she go. I circled several times in expanding arcs, but there was no trace of her. Fuck. Fuck. FUCK. My love, where are you?

Two of the guards were also missing. Did my little blonde dumdum get caught? She was supposed to stay at a safe distance! That's why I agreed to let her come along! Grrr.

<Dear Jesus Christ, Yahweh, and the Holy Spirit.> Who the shit are those gods? I mentally shook my head. It didn't matter, that's my clever girl! <Our heavenly Father who art in heaven, forgive us our trespasses as we forgive others.> I mentally rolled my eyes. Prayers from her realm were really weird. Get on with it already! <I don't know if this thing is even gonna work. I don't know, I guess if it does, then I better hope it doesn't have a cutoff limit like an answering machine.>

I took some calming owl breaths before I was tempted to give the bear three meals. She rambled on for several more minutes about random bullshit. <Anyways, you're probably thinking about feeding me to a bear, so I guess I had better get to the point.> Well, shit. We really do spend all of our time together. <I was distracting the guards to cover for the girls and got invited to meet the Elder. Old, rich, kinda culty. About what you'd expect. Really amazing cocoa and lemon squares though. Anyways, I'm in a guest room for the night. Not entirely clear if I'm a guest or a prisoner at this time. Uhh.. yeah. That's my situation. I really hope you're getting this, because I've got no way out unless he lets me go. Umm..> She was trying to pretend it was no big deal, but the terror in her thoughts made my heart ache. <Not even my magic. So, yeah. I.. I'm really scared. And, I love you.>

I love you too. What the shit was up with her magic? Unless that asshole Lothe did even more damage than I thought. I really needed to kill that demon already. But no matter. We would sneak in, rescue my girlfriend, and then liberate the gold.

I nearly hit a tree, as below me, horns started going off. Fuck me.
