Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging

Moira Lynch and Kai York rode on Black Wolf’s back. The giant wolf braced its hind legs and shot forward, carrying the two of them like an arrow loosed from a bow.

Following Moira Lynch’s silent commands, Black Wolf quickly raced toward a location where pirates had been sighted.

Many survivors had been rescued, and in order to find more people to work for them, these pirates were willing to tear the place apart searching for them.

Besides, the pirates knew that after the survivors were rescued, the rescue teams wouldn’t stay to protect them indefinitely. After all, there were many more people who needed saving.

So, all they had to do was find these people, and they might even be able to snag a batch of supplies in the process.

However, this was no easy task. While the rescue teams didn’t stay to guard the survivors, they did find them absolutely safe and hidden shelters.

That was why these pirates were practically turning over every stone to find the rescued survivors.

And the group of pirates Moira Lynch had just locked onto were out searching for survivors—and they had already found some.

Seven or eight pirates were escorting dozens of grimy-faced survivors down a road.

Black Wolf stood on high ground, giving Moira Lynch and Kai York, who were riding on its back, a perfect view of the scene.

"Moira, you focus on rescuing the people in a bit. I’ll take care of the pirates," Kai York said.

’This is a good chance to see if my new moves work,’ he thought.

The moment Moira Lynch nodded, she felt a gust of wind from behind her. When she looked again, Kai York was already gone, leaving only a faint afterimage hanging in the air.

Kai York had already appeared behind the pirates, catching them completely off guard.

Seeing this, even Moira Lynch couldn’t help but exclaim in admiration, "So fast!"

Kai York’s speed now was on a completely different level than before.

Soon, after a few Wind Blades, several pirates lay dead at his feet.

However, Kai York was still thinking about his earlier mistake. Even after winning, he didn’t look happy at all. Instead, his solemn expression terrified the survivors on the ground.

Just then, Moira Lynch leaped down from the high ground with Black Wolf.

She first untied the survivors. Seeing they were just exhausted and not injured, she took some food out from her space and distributed it among them.

The survivors who received the food thanked her profusely. Some even burst into tears, which made Moira Lynch feel quite awkward. Heaven knew she was the worst at comforting people.

Once they finally stopped crying, Moira Lynch instructed them to find a place to hide and not get caught again. Then, she left with Kai York without delay.

After they had traveled some distance, Kai York suddenly demanded to get off the car—no, off the horse—no, off the wolf.

Moira Lynch watched him jump to the ground and stretch his limbs. "What are you doing?" she asked.

"I’ve been analyzing things. My mistake just now was because my body hasn’t adapted to my speed yet. To adapt as quickly as possible, I’ve decided to run from now on. Don’t worry about me. Just have Black Wolf run at full speed. The faster, the better. I can definitely keep up."

Seeing Kai York’s confident expression, Moira Lynch couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Are you sure?"

Although Kai York detected the hint of malice in her tone, his confidence outweighed his concern. "Of course."

"Alright then. I’ll be waiting for you up ahead. Don’t you dare fall behind."

The words had barely left her mouth when Black Wolf’s figure vanished. Kai York could only see a small black dot in the distance, which also disappeared in the blink of an eye.

Once he snapped out of it, Kai York immediately took off in pursuit.

Meanwhile, Moira Lynch, who had already stopped, was laughing her head off on Black Wolf’s back.

"Awooo," Black Wolf whined. ’He’ll hate you for this when he finds out the truth.’

"If he hates me for this, then he’s just being petty. Don’t worry, I was just playing a joke on him. You can run on your own now."

That’s right. The scene Kai York had just witnessed wasn’t Black Wolf’s own speed, but Moira Lynch using her Space Ability to perform an Instant Teleportation.

’This was my first time using Instant Teleportation on an object as large as Black Wolf, and a living one at that. To think I succeeded on the first try! I really am a genius.’

Seeing Kai York’s figure drawing closer from behind, Moira Lynch had Black Wolf pick up the pace.

Flashes of green light sparked beneath Kai York’s feet, each flash shortening the distance between him and Black Wolf.

However, having witnessed Black Wolf’s initial speed, Kai York didn’t feel happy about this. In his mind, Black Wolf still wasn’t going all out.

Soon, in the midst of their chase, they found another nest of pirates.

This time, there were significantly more pirates than before.

Furthermore, according to Moira Lynch’s reconnaissance, this group of pirates wasn’t affiliated with the previous one.

The previous pirates were there for the main course; these ones were here to see if they could get a sip of the soup.

’Small pirate crews are great,’ Moira thought. ’They have a habit of carrying all their valuables with them. Unlike the big crews, who have too much stuff and leave it behind so they don’t enrich someone else if they die.’

"There are more pirates this time. I’ll have Black Wolf go with you, just to be safe," Moira Lynch said.

Hearing this, Kai York nodded. "Okay."

He wasn’t someone who couldn’t read a situation. There were at least a hundred pirates in this group; he clearly couldn’t handle them all by himself.

While Kai York and Black Wolf made their move, Moira Lynch didn’t stay idle. She launched a wave of mental attacks at the pirates, momentarily robbing them of their ability to act.

The pirates were suddenly struck by splitting headaches, their heads feeling as if they were about to explode. Before they could even react, they were killed by Kai York and Black Wolf.

Even when some of the stronger pirates managed to snap out of it and prepare to fight back, they had already missed the best opportunity to do so.

For them, it was now merely a matter of dying sooner or later.
