Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging

Chapter 539 - 529: Saving Ariel 22

By the time Kai York had dealt with all the pirates, Moira Lynch was already gathering the spoils.

These were just small-time pirates, but they were loaded.

And since most of them were fugitives or off-the-grid individuals, they couldn’t own bank cards and carried all their wealth in cash.

Moira Lynch and Kai York split the cash evenly on the spot. As for the pirates’ gear, they decided it would go to whoever needed it.

Whoever wanted something could take it, and the rest would be sold for cash when they returned.

"By the way, these guys must have a spaceship, right? How else would they have gotten here?"

As he spoke, Kai York glanced around, his eyes gleaming with excitement.

Moira Lynch replied, "It’s no use. Even if we found it, we couldn’t fly it. Spaceships are all identity-locked. At best, we could haul it back and sell it for scrap."

Hearing this, Kai York sighed in disappointment. "Then forget it."

Fortunately, he perked up again quickly. "Come on, let’s find our next victims."

Without waiting for Moira Lynch to reply, he zipped off, leaving only an afterimage in his wake.

Watching his disappearing figure, Moira Lynch crossed her arms. ’Did he forget he needs me to navigate?’

’Whatever. I can’t be bothered to chase him. I’ll just wait here. He’ll probably be back soon enough.’

’In the meantime, I might as well deal with the spaceship.’

The pirates must have just arrived and disembarked, since their ship was still parked right overhead.

It had activated its Stealth Mode, but it couldn’t hide from the probing of Moira Lynch’s spiritual power.

To be safe, Moira Lynch remotely drained the ship’s power core.

Without any energy to sustain it, the cloaked ship flickered into view. Then, with no power to its engines, it began to plummet.

Fortunately, Moira Lynch was prepared and pulled it directly into her storage space.

She hadn’t been lying about the ships being identity-locked, but who said scrap metal wasn’t valuable?

The battle-damaged Mecha and spaceships she’d salvaged from battlefields were always in high demand; buyers fought over them.

A fully intact ship like this would probably fetch a handsome price back home.

As for the dead pirates...

Seeing that Kai York still wasn’t back, Moira Lynch decided to bury the pirates.

After all, rotting corpses would not only stink, but they could also cause a plague if she was unlucky.

Burning them would cause too much of a commotion, and with this many bodies, there was no telling how long it would take.

As everyone knows, killing is easy. Getting rid of the bodies is the hard part.

So she decided to leave the difficult task to Mother Nature.

Moira Lynch took out a shovel and spent a dozen or so minutes digging a large pit. She then used her spiritual power to toss the pirates in one by one before covering them with earth.

By the time she finished, half an hour had passed.

’Why isn’t he back yet?’

Moira Lynch frowned, looking in the direction Kai York had disappeared.

She vaulted onto Black Wolf’s back. Without waiting for a command, Black Wolf shot forward like an arrow from a bow the moment she was steady.

After running for a few minutes, she finally found a trace of Kai York.

Or more accurately, a sign he had left behind.

Moira Lynch stared at a strange circular pattern on the ground.

The pattern was created by a continuously spinning vortex of wind that Kai York had left on the ground.

It was a technique he used to avoid getting lost, a sort of personal marker.

But there was no risk of getting lost here, so this spinning wind couldn’t be for preventing that.

It had to be a clue for her.

’But...’

’Kai York went to all this trouble to leave me a clue to follow, but... he really didn’t need to bother.’

With a single thought, Moira Lynch located Kai York’s position in a matter of seconds.

’So he got captured.’

’No wonder he left the vortex.’

’Hang in there. Big sis is coming to save you.’

...

「Meanwhile...」

Kai York’s hands were tied behind his back. The other end of the rope was held by a woman with a curvy figure, garish makeup, and an outrageous, spiky hairstyle shot through with red highlights. She radiated a wild personality from head to toe.

"Let me go!"

Kai York glared at the woman.

’Dammit, how did she do that? She neutralized my attack so easily and even captured me.’

As for his new talent, Universal Gravitation, he had only ever used it on Caelus. Ariel’s gravity was clearly different, and before he could adapt, the most he could do was make himself float a little.

He couldn’t do anything else with it.

His current disappointment was as immense as his initial excitement over awakening this new talent.

"Let you go? Why would I do that? It’s not every day I run into a pretty boy like you. You’re the perfect candidate for my thirtieth husband. We’re consummating our marriage tonight!"

As her face drew near, Kai York turned his head away in disgust. A Wind Blade materialized beside him and shot toward the woman.

The next second, the Wind Blade vanished just before it reached her, as if it had never existed at all.

A smug smile spread across the woman’s face. "You should just save your energy. Like I said, your tricks are useless against me. Be a good boy, and you’ll suffer less. Otherwise, I can’t guarantee what’ll happen to you."

"After all, with a face like yours, you’d fetch a high price on the market. And trust me, those buyers aren’t as gentle as I am."

The surrounding pirates started catcalling and jeering.

"Boss, if you don’t want him, you can give him to us!"

"Yeah, Boss! We want a pretty boy like that too!"

Tears of humiliation streamed down Kai York’s face.

’Moira Lynch! Where are you?! Come save me!’

Just as the female pirate leaned in to steal a kiss, the sound of something Breaking Sky whistled from the distance, approaching at incredible speed.

WHOOSH!!

She paid it no mind, however. She was confident that no attack could possibly harm her...

The next second, the female pirate’s eyes flew wide open. Her gaze slowly drifted downward to a wound that had suddenly appeared at her waist.

A torrent of blood immediately gushed from the wound, splattering onto the clothes of Kai York, who was standing right next to her.

As she felt her Life Energy rapidly draining away, in the final second before she lost consciousness, she saw that her subordinates had suffered the same fate—bisected at the waist without even knowing what hit them.

She never even knew what killed her.

She may not have seen it, but Kai York did. He saw it with perfect clarity.
