Chapter 147: Instant Regret
Quill found a hotel and asked the receptionist for two rooms.
The receptionist handed him the keys, and a few minutes later, the three of them were standing in the hallway with their rooms directly across from each other.
As they were about to head in, Quill smirked and raised an eyebrow at Daniel, giving him a look that clearly said, watch this.
"Come on. Let’s see if that little stunt from the bar works a second time."
Quill gave Valkyrie a light shove, and the two of them went into their room.
"You really haven’t learned your lesson huh?"
""Lesson?" Quill scoffed. "I was caught off guard, so don’t even think about escaping, especially now I’ve got this."
Quill held up the remote. Valkyrie just stared at it, then snorted.
"You really think that thing makes you a match for me?"
Daniel laughed, shook his head, and walked into his own room.
Seeing how pleased Quill was with himself, Daniel couldn’t help but laugh inwardly. Who was actually going to be in for a bad time tonight was still up in the air.
Daniel had handed Quill the remote specifically to watch him make a fool of himself. Valkyrie was a Valkyrie, a legendary warrior woman, while Quill was so out of shape that his combat ability couldn’t even compare to hers. Did he really think a little remote control would save him from her?
Daniel sat down on the sofa and immediately started snooping with his X-ray vision. There was no way he was going to miss a train wreck this entertaining.
Inside the opposite room, Quill immediately turned around with the remote in his hand.
"Hey!"
He pointed the remote at her, grinning smugly. "Look who’s got the upper hand now! You kicked me halfway across the bar tonight. Go ahead, try something again."
Valkyrie glanced at him without saying a word.
Quill kept talking, clearly enjoying the fact that he thought he was in control. Valkyrie, meanwhile, looked increasingly unimpressed.
Finally, she raised a hand.
Quill immediately jumped backward, putting several meters between them.
"Whoa, hey! Don’t even think about it!" he said, gripping the remote tightly. "I’ve got this thing right here!"
"I’m tired," Valkyrie said flatly. "I’m going to bed."
She tossed her jacket onto a chair and started getting ready for the night.
Quill narrowed his eyes suspiciously.
"Don’t even think about trying anything."
Valkyrie gave him an amused look. "You’re the one who brought me in here and started bragging."
"That’s different," Quill insisted. "I’m making a point."
"Yeah, a very stupid point."
Quill scoffed. "Fine. Just stay where I can see you."
Valkyrie sighed and raised both hands behind her head in exaggerated surrender.
"Happy?"
"Yeah." Seeing that Valkyrie had relaxed, Quill cautiously stepped closer, keeping the remote firmly in his hand.
He stepped closer, reaching out as if he were about to demonstrate exactly what the remote could do, when Valkyrie suddenly said, "Daniel, why are you here?"
"What?"
Quill spun around instinctively.
The instant he turned back, Valkyrie was already holding the remote.
Quill’s face went pale.
"Oh, come on!"
He immediately tried to bolt for the door, but Valkyrie caught him with ease and swept his legs out from under him.
"Ow!"
Quill groaned in pain, looking up at Valkyrie. "I really should’ve pushed the button first!"
"Too late!"
Valkyrie chuckled, unclipped the device from her neck, and attached it onto Quill’s.
"Now, who’s going to have a bad time huh?"
Releasing Quill, Valkyrie looked down at him.
"Sigh..."
Quill let out a long sigh and calmly got back to his feet. Valkyrie looked at him in surprise.
"I was wrong!" Quill bowed to Valkyrie and confessed immediately.
"Haha!" Valkyrie burst out laughing. "Now you know you were wrong?" she asked.
"Yes," Quill nodded obediently.
"Knowing it won’t help you!" Valkyrie wiped the smile off her face and pressed the button on the remote.
She knew Quill was weak, so she used the lowest power setting, but even that shocked him enough to send him rolling around on the floor.
"AAAAAAGH!" Quill screamed.
"Scream all you want. The soundproofing in here is great; no one outside can hear a thing," Valkyrie said nonchalantly, casually picking at her nails.
Drenched in cold sweat from the pain, Quill lay on the floor for a long time before finally catching his breath.
"Was that fun?" Valkyrie asked Quill. "Want to keep going?"
Quill shook his head frantically. "I was wrong, I really was! Daniel is right next door, and he has X-ray vision, so he’s definitely looking at us right now and laughing his ass off!"
Quill had to admit, he knew Daniel pretty well.
Next door, Daniel quietly pulled back his vision, though after a brief pause, he checked back in again strictly out of concern for Quill’s safety, of course!
"Is that so?" Valkyrie looked around the room, her expression shifting to doubt.
"Of course," Quill nodded with certainty. "I know that guy!"
"Then why isn’t he coming over to save you?"
"He wants to see me make a fool of myself." Quill now fully understood Daniel’s malicious intentions.
"He’s very confident in himself. He knew I’d get overpowered by you, but he also knew you’d only mess with me a little and won’t actually do anything serious or kill me. At most, I’d just suffer a little physical pain and some humiliation."
The more he thought about it, the more convinced he became.
"I don’t buy it. What if I kill you right now and make a run for it?" Valkyrie raised her hand, threatening to strike Quill down.
"You won’t," Quill said, staring directly into Valkyrie’s eyes.
"Who says I won’t?" Valkyrie snapped angrily and swung her hand toward Quill’s neck.
Quill just watched her calmly, and just when her hand was only a centimeter from Quill’s neck, Valkyrie pulled it back.
"Not worth the effort," she muttered, pulling back.
"Mm-hmm!" Quill gave her a knowing look.
Valkyrie was indeed a bit afraid of Daniel, but at the same time, she was curious about him. Under normal circumstances, she would have tried to escape long ago, but she hadn’t.
"AAAAAAGH!"
Quill screamed in pain again. After taking half a minute to recover, he stared at Valkyrie.
"You were right! I really don’t want to kill you, but I’ve got this." Valkyrie smirked as she showed Quill the remote control.
"Behave yourself, and sleep on the floor, I’m just too tired to deal with you." With that Valkyrie turned around, poured herself a glass of booze, knocked it back in seconds, and then chugged two more bottles before passing out drunk on the bed.
Quill stretched his neck out. Seeing that Valkyrie was out cold, he tried to sneak over to steal the remote back.
He had barely taken two tiptoed steps when Valkyrie rolled over, accidentally pressing down on the remote control.
"AAAAAAAHHHH!"
.....
When they met up again the next morning, Quill looked utterly miserable, casting aggrieved glances at Daniel. Valkyrie, on the other hand, smugly raised her eyebrows at Daniel.
"Looks like you had an interesting night," Daniel said with a smile as he looked at them.
"Oh yeah, we both enjoyed it very much, it’s super fun. Want to join in next time?" Valkyrie taunted Daniel.
"Give me a break!" Daniel glanced at the smug Valkyrie. "You can handle him, but you can’t handle me."
"Hmph!"
Remembering how she had been captured by him yesterday, Valkyrie’s good mood from torturing Quill all night instantly evaporated. She turned her head away and stopped talking.
At the same time, she felt a little shaken by what had happened. She had genuinely considered killing Quill last night, but she hadn’t been sure whether Daniel would notice, so she held back.
Meanwhile, Quill looked at Daniel with an even more heartbroken expression.
