Marvel: Reincarnated as Superman

Chapter 4: Amusement Park (2)

Facts had once again proven that Nietzsche might have had a point about human contradictions.

Daniel now genuinely thought amusement parks were pretty fun.

After trying several rides, the non-thrilling kind, he still felt like he hadn’t had enough.

"Tsk... so this is what they mean by eating your words,’" he muttered to himself.

He had already gone through almost every mild ride in the park. Pirate ships, Ferris wheels, all of them. Some he even rode twice.

If he had to pick a favorite, the carousel ranked first without question. It was way too fun.

The gentle up and down motion, the slow spinning speed... it perfectly suited a person like him.

Before they knew it, it was already noon.

Not because they had played that many rides, but because the lines were absurdly long.

The amusement park was packed with people everywhere, and every attraction required at least half an hour of waiting.

At lunchtime, they simply grabbed something casual to eat inside the park.

After eating and resting for a bit, they headed out to continue playing.

This time, Daniel could no longer keep up his cool and aloof act.

He enthusiastically discussed which ride to try next with Carol, while John stood nearby with a smile on his face, quietly watching the two children.

’I really should bring Daniel out more often,’ John thought to himself. ’Only now does he finally look like a child. Before this, he was way too quiet and reserved.’

Happy moments always passed too quickly.

Daniel felt like he had only just started enjoying himself when the sky had already begun to darken.

"Kids, it’s getting late. Time to head home," John said as he clapped his hands, drawing Daniel and Carol’s attention back to him.

"Huh? Already?" Carol immediately started complaining. "But I still want to play!"

Beside her, Daniel silently nodded in agreement.

Today was the first time in a long while that he had truly relaxed.

Ever since transmigrating into this world, there had always been a constant pressure weighing on his heart, like something heavy silently pressing down on him.

He was always thinking, always worrying.

But today was different, it felt light.

For the first time since arriving in this world, he had experienced the joy of being a child again.

John raised his wrist and checked the time on his watch.

"It’s really late now. Look, it’s almost seven."

He turned the watch toward Carol. The time displayed was already 6:45 PM.

"Dad, just one last ride, okay? Just one!" Carol grabbed John’s arm and shook it while acting spoiled.

"I want to ride the go-karts!"

"You already said ’one last ride’ earlier, Carol."

John was starting to feel uneasy. The sky was getting darker.

"Really, this time it’s actually the last one! I promise!"

Carol looked at him pitifully, her bright little eyes blinking innocently. She looked unbelievably adorable.

"...Alright."

As expected, John’s heart softened immediately.

"Yay!"

Carol jumped excitedly, then happily grabbed Daniel’s hand.

"Come on, Daniel! Let’s go ride the go-karts! Let’s go!"

Daniel got yanked so suddenly that he nearly stumbled forward as she dragged him away.

"This child..." John laughed helplessly before following after them.

Soon, the three of them arrived at the go-kart area.

"Daniel, I’ll drive. You sit behind me," Carol declared confidently.

"No."

Daniel’s interest had already been stirred up too. He wanted to drive himself.

"You’re too little," Carol said seriously. "You’re still a kid. It’s dangerous for you to drive alone."

...

Daniel was speechless.

’If you count both my past life and this one, I’m older than you,’ he grumbled inwardly.

But outwardly, he refused to back down.

"You’re only three years older than me, Carol."

"I’m your older sister, so you should listen to me, Daniel. I’ll drive you."

"No."

His rejection was immediate and decisive.

The two argued back and forth for quite a while, neither willing to give in.

Eventually, John stepped in. If they kept arguing any longer, it would be completely dark before they even started.

"Let Daniel drive too," John decided. "He’s a little man now."

"Hmph... fine."

Carol still looked unconvinced.

Her personality had always been competitive. She hated losing.

Actually, she still wanted to argue more, but John had already warned them that if they continued fighting, they would skip the ride entirely and go straight home.

So she could only give up unwillingly.

The two went to line up for safety gear.

After putting on helmets, knee pads, and elbow guards, they each climbed into a go-kart.

"Daniel, I’m gonna leave you in the dust!" Carol said stubbornly. "Don’t start crying later!"

Daniel could only sigh helplessly.

This little girl really was...

Cute?

Soon, a staff member started their karts.

The two of them gripped their steering wheels tightly while John stood nearby acting as the race announcer.

"Three! Two! One! Go! Go! Go!"

The instant he heard "one," Daniel slammed on the accelerator.

The kart shot forward immediately.

Carol reacted a beat slower. Seeing Daniel already speeding off, she hurriedly stomped on the gas pedal too.

Even though she had already fallen behind at the start, she still refused to admit defeat.

"Daniel, you’re the younger one! I let you go first!"

Daniel curled his lips.

Yeah, right...

Very quickly, three laps had already passed, and Daniel still maintained the lead.

What a joke.

In his previous life, he had been an experienced driver. Was he really supposed to lose at something as simple as go-karts to an actual child?

Watching Daniel ahead of her, Carol started getting anxious.

She had bragged so confidently earlier, but now Daniel was completely crushing her, so she was slightly embarrassed.

The amusement park track only had five laps total.

Now that more than half the race was already over, Carol became increasingly nervous as she realized she was about to lose.

A sharp turn approached.

Daniel immediately slowed down.

A true experienced driver was always steady.

He actually felt rather nostalgic.

It had been so long since he last drove anything. Even driving a go-kart now strangely reminded him of his previous life.

Behind him, Carol saw Daniel slow down.

Her expression hardened.

Then she slammed harder on the accelerator. She was going to overtake him on this turn!

The curve on the track was extremely sharp.

Land inside the amusement park was expensive, and in order to make customers feel like the attraction was worth the money, the owner had intentionally stretched the track length as much as possible.

Which meant the turns here were particularly dangerous.

After stepping harder on the gas, Carol’s speed surged noticeably.

But midway through the turn, she suddenly lost control of the kart.

The red go-kart swerved violently from side to side, clearly unstable.

Outside the track, John immediately noticed something was wrong.

His heart skipped a beat.

He instantly sprinted toward Carol.

And his bad feeling turned out to be correct.

Carol’s kart flipped over.

The vehicle flew off the track, and she herself was thrown several meters away.

Daniel had just exited the turn when he suddenly realized there was no longer any engine sound behind him.

He turned around, and saw Carol lying outside the track.

’Crap!’

His heart tightened instantly.

Daniel slammed on the brakes, jumped out of the kart, and ran toward her as fast as he could.

He and John almost arrived at the same time.

By the time they reached her, Carol had already sat up and was brushing dirt off herself.

Almost simultaneously, filled with worry and panic, both Daniel and John asked.

"Are you okay?!"

Carol’s face was pale. She had obviously been badly frightened too.

"I’m okay..." she said softly.

"You were way too careless."

John’s tone carried some blame. He had been extremely terrified before.

Usually, girls would be quieter and gentler, while boys would be more lively and energetic.

But somehow, his two children had turned out the exact opposite.

"Dad, I’m really fine."

Carol forced a smile.

Seeing that she truly wasn’t injured and that the protective gear had done its job well, the anxiety in Daniel’s heart finally eased.

"Daniel, let’s continue," Carol immediately said again, still unwilling to admit defeat.

"No more racing," John cut her off directly. "Continue what? You want to crash again?"

...

And just like that, the day came to an end.

That night, Daniel lay on his bed thinking silently.

’What was I even expecting before coming out today?’

So, what exactly had he seen today?

Crowded amusement parks.

Children running everywhere, lively and adorable.

Well then... he really ended up accomplishing absolutely nothing today.
