Marvel: Reincarnated as Superman

Chapter 5: Museum Visit

The second day after arriving in Boston.

This time, Daniel finally got a good night’s sleep.

Carol had completely exhausted herself from yesterday’s fun, so she didn’t wake up early to drag him out of bed. For once, he slept naturally until he woke on his own.

"Ahh..."

Stretching lazily, Daniel slowly opened his eyes.

The first thing he saw was John sitting nearby reading a newspaper.

Since they were staying out of town, the three of them had rented a roadside motel in the suburbs.

These kinds of motels were common all across the country, usually run by local residents along highways.

"You’re awake," John said casually while continuing to read the paper without even looking up.

"Mm..."

"Go take a shower first. By the time you’re done, Carol should be awake too, then we’ll get breakfast."

"Alright."

After taking a quick shower in the bathroom, Daniel stepped back out, only to see Carol sitting there yawning sleepily.

The moment she noticed he had already finished showering, she immediately started complaining.

"Daniel! Why didn’t you wake me up? We’re going to see Captain America today!" Her eyes brightened instantly. "I really like him!"

Well then.

Another Captain America fangirl.

What confused Daniel was that he had never even seen Carol read any Captain America comics before.

...

The three of them hastily finished the motel-provided sandwiches for breakfast.

Honestly, they tasted terrible.

The owner clearly hadn’t put any effort into making them.

They weren’t even close to being as good as Mary’s cooking.

After breakfast, Carol suddenly looked at Daniel.

"Daniel... I miss Mom."

Daniel stayed silent for a moment.

He missed her too.

Even though he had only transmigrated into this world five years ago, he had already developed deep feelings for this family.

Daniel could honestly swear that what he missed most was simply Mary herself.

Though... he also missed her cooking a little bit.

Just a little.

"Dad, can we go home today?" Carol asked hopefully.

John seemed to miss home a little too. His expression turned bitter as he sighed.

"I’m not sure. This trip to Boston wasn’t just for sightseeing. I’m waiting to meet someone, but I still haven’t heard from him yet. So probably not today."

He rubbed his forehead tiredly.

"If everything goes smoothly, we’ll head home tomorrow."

The reactions of all three of them once again perfectly proved the saying.

If you want to win a man’s heart, first win his stomach.

"Ahhh..." Carol let out a miserable groan.

"It’s alright, kids," John said with a smile. "Today I’ll take you to the Captain America Memorial Museum. That’s the spirit of America right there!"

After breakfast, the three of them cleaned up briefly before setting off once more.

Driving that old pickup truck, they headed toward the memorial museum.

The roads were smooth and clear, and before long, they arrived at their destination.

It was an enormous complex.

The building’s exterior was painted in blue and white, with a giant star positioned at the center. The entire design style resembled Captain America’s suit.

A statue of Captain America stood proudly near the entrance, silently welcoming visitors.

The three of them stopped outside the main gates for a while to admire it.

Every time John came here, he seemed deeply moved.

"No matter how many times I visit this place," he said emotionally, "I still get excited. This is the true spirit of America."

Several seconds later, he finally waved them forward.

"Come on. Let’s go inside."

Walking through the entrance led directly into the museum’s main hall.

At first glance, the walls were covered entirely in black and white photographs.

They were old photographs of Captain America.

There weren’t many, but every single one had been enlarged, framed carefully, and displayed around the exhibition hall.

Of course, these weren’t the original negatives.

The originals were preserved in the New York exhibition branch.

But even these copies were incredibly valuable.

Some had been provided by Captain America’s relatives, others by friends, and some by former comrades in arms.

More than thirty years had passed.

Those people had already grown old.

But they refused to let the Captain in their hearts grow old alongside them. They didn’t want him to be forgotten by the world.

So they had voluntarily donated these photos free of charge, allowing future generations to remember the Captain’s achievements forever.

The museum was crowded with visitors.

All of them were Captain America fans, they admired and loved him a lot.

And the more Daniel looked around... the more wrong things started to feel.

These photographs looked way too real.

The man in the pictures looked seventy to eighty percent identical to the Captain America from the Marvel movies Daniel had watched in theaters in his previous life.

"What kind of world did I transmigrate into...?"

Daniel muttered under his breath.

For the first time, he truly began doubting the world he was living in.

A terrible premonition slowly rose in his heart.

Deep inside his mind, it almost felt like a voice was whispering to him.

’Exactly the world you think it is.’

Daniel immediately shook his head.

No.... he refused to believe it.... he didn’t want to believe it.

Because that world... it was terrifying.

"Daniel? What were you saying just now?"

Carol had vaguely heard him mumbling and turned to look at him curiously.

"N-Nothing..."

Daniel suddenly felt nervous, so nervous that even his words came out awkwardly.

It had to be a coincidence.

Maybe the fans here were just too passionate, which made everything feel incredibly realistic.

That had to be it.

He absolutely refused to believe otherwise.

Because if it were true...

Then all his dreams, all his plans for the future, would completely shatter.

Who didn’t know how dangerous the Marvel universe was?

If you didn’t have a powerful father or money to burn, then your fate depended entirely on luck.

Poor people relied on mutations.

Rich people relied on technology.

That saying wasn’t a joke.

And most of the guys who mutated usually ended up turning into villains before eventually getting killed off anyway.

The more Daniel thought about it, the more he shivered.

It was all too terrifying.

He didn’t dare continue thinking about it.

When he transmigrated, Avengers: Infinity War had only just been released.

The last thing he saw was Thanos wiping out half the universe’s population with a snap of his fingers.

He hadn’t even lived long enough to watch the next movie afterward.

Otherwise, he probably wouldn’t be this scared right now.

"Come on, Daniel," John said as he grabbed his hand. "I’ll show you these precious photographs and tell you the stories behind them."

He pulled Daniel toward the first display.

"Look at this one."

John pointed excitedly at a photograph.

The man in the picture looked thin and frail, wearing a military uniform that practically swallowed him whole. He looked more like a child playing dress-up than a soldier.

He was skinny, weak-looking and short.

"This was taken when the Captain first enlisted," John explained with a grin.

"Back then, he was weaker than an ordinary person. Fragile as one could be. But even then, he already had a great heart."

John’s eyes sparkled with admiration.

"Even when he got beaten up, he still insisted on standing up for justice!"

It was obvious John was an absolute Captain America superfan.

He knew the Captain’s history like the back of his hand.

The more excited he became, the more animated he got.

Before the two kids even reacted, he was already waving his arms around enthusiastically, acting out scenes as if he had personally witnessed them himself.

Even though, back then, he had probably just been some little kid.

...

"And that’s why Captain America is truly great. He deserves our admiration and respect!"

Just from this single photograph alone, John had already talked for nearly five straight minutes.

Words poured out nonstop from his mouth and spit practically flew everywhere.

The two children were completely stunned.

Carol simply didn’t fully understand what he was talking about.

Meanwhile, Daniel felt like his brain was about to crash entirely.

That terrible premonition in his heart grew stronger and stronger.

He became increasingly suspicious of the world he had transmigrated into.

"Come on, let’s look at the next photo," John said enthusiastically while dragging both children along. "There are still plenty more! I need to tell you all about them."

He continued rambling nonstop as they walked forward.

At this point, John clearly looked abnormal.

He was the very image of an obsessed fanboy.
