Chapter 233: Departing for the Trading Place
"Xiao Feng, what do we do next?" Chu Feng’s mother-in-law asked worriedly.
Her main pillar of support right now was Chu Feng.
At that moment, Su Miaoke said, "We haven’t even confirmed if my dad is safe."
"Don’t worry. I heard him. He was right there. He should be fine. You all just wait here tomorrow for my good news," Chu Feng said.
After speaking, he turned to He Tao.
"Minister He, get a car ready for me tomorrow. Preferably one with good off-road capabilities and high safety ratings," Chu Feng said.
"Alright. I’ll go with you tomorrow, Mr. Chu. Our side will fully cooperate with you," He Tao said with a nod.
"By the way, can your people get ahold of that much cash?" Chu Feng asked.
"Two billion... even converted to US Dollars, that’s over two hundred million. It’s going to be very difficult to gather that on short notice," He Tao said, shaking his head.
"Then Minister He, your company should have foreign currency reserves, right?" Chu Feng asked again.
"We do. Our company usually maintains a certain amount of foreign currency reserves, but not that much. I’d estimate we have about ten to twenty million in cash reserves," He Tao replied with a nod.
"Okay then. Honey, transfer ten million to Minister He," Chu Feng said to Su Miaoke.
"Okay." Su Miaoke didn’t hesitate and directly transferred the money to He Tao’s company account.
"Mr. Chu, what is this for?" He Tao was a little confused by Chu Feng’s actions.
"Minister He, I’ll have to trouble you to get this exchanged for the equivalent amount in foreign currency cash for me," Chu Feng said.
Ten million in local currency was only a little over a million in foreign currency, enough to fit in a single bag.
"Huh?" He Tao was a bit stunned.
’What kind of move is this? Don’t they want two billion? And he’s just offering ten million?’
"Minister He, don’t worry about it. These people are shitting and pissing on my head. How could I possibly let them get away with it? I don’t care if they’re an armed criminal group," Chu Feng said firmly.
"Mr. Chu, I’m afraid that’s not a good idea. It’s too dangerous! If something happens to you, it’s all over! I won’t be able to answer to President Zhao. And what if something happens to President Su then? What are we going to do?" He Tao started to panic.
He couldn’t afford another disaster on his watch. If something else went wrong, Zhao Liu would probably skin him alive.
Besides, they were an *armed* criminal group. The name said it all. How could they be weak? They had guns and men.
Chu Feng’s group was so small. Even if He Tao sent in his entire security department, they wouldn’t even be an appetizer for the enemy.
Furthermore, they were a local criminal syndicate, while he and his people were just outsiders. How could they possibly win that fight?
"Minister He, you don’t need to worry about that. I’ll handle it," Chu Feng said confidently.
Seeing that he couldn’t persuade him, He Tao had no choice but to make a call and have the money sent over.
"Honey, if we only bring that little bit of money, will they kill the hostage when they see it?" Su Miaoke began to worry as well.
After all, there was a huge difference between ten million and two billion.
Two billion would need to be hauled by a truck—several trucks, in fact.
"It’s fine. This is enough just to show them we have money," Chu Feng said lightly. This bit of cash was just for show; it didn’t mean Chu Feng was actually going to hand it over.
’They kidnap someone and still expect to get paid? In their dreams!’
"Alright, then," Su Miaoke said, resigned.
At this point, all she could do was trust Chu Feng.
Not long after, a courier delivered the ten million in foreign currency. Converted, it all fit neatly into a single bag.
That evening, the three of them sat down for dinner. But aside from Chu Feng, both Su Miaoke and her mother found the food bland and tasteless. They had no appetite at all.
"Xiao Feng, are you sure there won’t be any problems?" his mother-in-law couldn’t help but ask at the dinner table.
"Mom, don’t worry. Dad will be fine," Chu Feng said reassuringly.
"Okay, that’s good. Mom trusts you the most. I’m a little tired; I’m going to go rest," Chu Feng’s mother-in-law said, nodding.
She had been on a plane all day and, on top of that, had cried so many times. She was already exhausted.
After his mother-in-law left, Su Miaoke couldn’t help but ask, "Honey, what if we don’t take the risk? It’s just two billion, isn’t it? We have the money. Why don’t we just give it to them?"
"No. You need to consider who they are. They’re an armed criminal group. Do you really think they’d let him go if we gave them the money?" Chu Feng said.
"Why not? They’d have gotten their money," Su Miaoke said.
"These are the kind of people who could double the price at any moment. Do you think they have any integrity to speak of? Once we actually give them the money, we might not be able to get back at all," Chu Feng said.
"Alright, honey, you don’t need to worry about all this. You’re just overthinking because you’re so anxious. All you need to know is that I will bring Dad back tomorrow," Chu Feng said.
"Okay then, honey. I believe you," Su Miaoke said with a nod.
After clearing the dishes, Chu Feng took the Heaven-Slaying Sword out of his suitcase, planning to bring it with him tomorrow.
Ever since getting it, he had never truly used this sword in battle, except for a brief clash with Tang Qian.
"Honey, are you taking that with you tomorrow?" Su Miaoke asked when she saw it.
She knew the sword’s origin; it belonged to a Martial Cultivator Great Power from several hundred years ago.
"Yeah. This is a war-torn area anyway, so no one cares about these things. It’s a good opportunity to use it," Chu Feng said.
Here, he didn’t have as many scruples.
Unlike back home, where he was bound by laws and couldn’t just attack people at will.
"Honey, you have to promise me you’ll be careful. You have to guarantee your own safety," Su Miaoke said worriedly.
Although she didn’t know exactly how many of them there were, she knew from what He Kun had said that there were a lot of them, they all had guns, and it was very dangerous.
So, she was quite worried about Chu Feng’s safety.
"Okay, don’t worry. It’s time to cultivate," Chu Feng said with a smile.
Then, the two of them began to cultivate together.
The next day, after Chu Feng finished the breakfast his mother-in-law had prepared, He Tao arrived.
Not long after, the phone rang. They gave Chu Feng an address.
Then, with He Tao leading the way, the group set off for that location.
"Mr. Chu, the exchange point is quite remote. There are a lot of mountains in the surrounding area, making it easy for those militants to hide. It’s quite dangerous," He Tao informed him.
"Alright, I understand," Chu Feng said.
In truth, he didn’t really care about any of that. As long as his father-in-law’s safety wasn’t compromised, he wasn’t afraid, no matter how many people they had.
At first, the car drove along a paved highway, but after about an hour, they turned onto some dirt roads. The surrounding environment became much harsher.
