Chapter 27: Give Me a Grandson to Hold
Chu Feng frowned slightly. The message was coming from the Token.
This was the first time he had ever received a message from the Token.
’Praying for a son? Isn’t that Lady Guanyin’s department?’ Chu Feng wondered, deeply puzzled.
But with a mere thought, all the information about the supplicant appeared before him.
Name, age, place of origin, occupation, industry, family status, and more—the information was incredibly detailed.
The Token from the God of Wealth could cover a hundred-li radius.
This meant that no matter where he was, as long as someone within that hundred-li radius made a devout prayer to a deity, Chu Feng would receive the message.
After a quick review, Chu Feng immediately understood the situation.
The man was a local tyrant in the county seat. In his youth, he had been utterly unscrupulous, committing countless wicked deeds.
He had since built up a modest fortune but had never been able to have children.
That was why he was at home praying, begging a deity to grant him a son.
Chu Feng was utterly contemptuous of this.
’Some people join gangs, commit all sorts of evil, oppress their neighbors, and prey on the common folk.’
’And now that they’ve made their money, they think they can just have a house full of children and grandchildren?’
However, while this man was indeed part of the criminal underworld, he wasn’t completely irredeemable. He had done a few good deeds, and his ancestors had accumulated some blessed Merit. According to the rules, his prayer for a son actually had a chance.
With that, Chu Feng sent his reply via his will.
"Disperse your family wealth, and you might have a glimmer of hope!"
He had said his piece. What the man chose to do was up to him.
After sending the reply, Chu Feng felt his Merit increase slightly.
Helping Wang Hai and punishing Liu Hui and Chen Long had all earned him some Merit Points.
Chu Feng now had a total of five hundred.
Chu Feng glanced at his father and tried to see if he could transfer the Merit Points to him.
With a flicker of his will.
Suddenly, Chu Feng felt his own Merit Points decrease.
Looking at his father, he saw a faint yellow light appear above his head, and a number for Merit Points was displayed.
500!
’It works!’ Chu Feng was overjoyed.
Chu Feng then activated the Blessings and Prosperity associated with the five hundred Merit Points, allowing his father to enjoy the benefits they brought.
’I hope there’ll be good news tomorrow,’ Chu Feng thought, full of anticipation.
That night, Chu Feng held Su Miaoke in his arms and drifted off to a peaceful sleep.
The feeling of them embracing on that cold winter night was a special kind of warmth that was difficult to put into words.
Feeling the warmth of his other half and hearing the sound of her heartbeat was incredibly comforting.
And so, Chu Feng quickly sank into a sweet slumber.
Su Miaoke gently opened her stunningly beautiful eyes and gazed at Chu Feng. The corners of her lips curved upward into a sweet, blissful smile.
She wished that time could freeze in this very moment.
「The next morning」
Chu Feng was jolted awake by a cry of surprise.
"Dad, your... your leg is better?" Chu Hao exclaimed, standing at the doorway and staring at his father in astonishment.
His voice woke everyone in the house.
Chu Yuntian had gotten out of bed as usual and had instinctively reached for his cane, only to discover that he could suddenly feel his leg again. It could even move normally.
This stunned him completely. Thinking he must be dreaming, he had walked from his room to the front door, which was exactly when Chu Hao saw him.
Feeling the biting cold wind from outside and hearing Chu Hao’s cry, Chu Yuntian finally believed that his leg was truly healed.
Hearing the commotion, Chu Feng’s mother rushed out from the kitchen.
"Yuntian, your leg is better?" Chu Feng’s mother asked, her face a mask of disbelief.
Chu Yuntian nodded excitedly. "It is, but I still limp a little when I walk."
"Dad, that’s just because you haven’t used that leg to walk in so long," Chu Feng called out from upstairs. "You’ll be fine once you get used to it again."
"Have the heavens finally opened their eyes?" Chu Yuntian was so moved that his eyes welled up with tears, and his entire body trembled.
"Dad, how about Chu Feng and I take you to the hospital for a checkup?" Su Miaoke suggested, just as surprised as everyone else to see Chu Yuntian suddenly standing. "A full examination and proper treatment should help you recover even better."
Little did Su Miaoke know this was because Chu Feng had transferred five hundred Merit Points to his father, giving him all the Merit he had earned. Otherwise, how could a leg that had been crippled for over twenty years possibly heal overnight?
"Forget the hospital. All they do now is run scams to make money. They told me before that my only option was amputation, but look at it now, it’s fine, isn’t it?" Chu Yuntian refused to go. To him, modern hospitals had long abandoned the medical principle of saving the dying and healing the wounded; all they cared about was how to squeeze more money out of their patients.
"There’s no need to go to the hospital. It’ll get better on its own in a few days," Chu Feng said.
Su Miaoke glanced at Chu Feng, her suspicions deepening.
She had a persistent feeling that Chu Feng was connected to the old man who had appeared that night. That, combined with Chu Feng’s prediction of the heavy snow and now Chu Yuntian’s suddenly healed leg...
And through it all, Chu Feng was so calm, as if he had known this would happen all along.
Su Miaoke remained suspicious about all these things. But then again, her own terminal illness had been cured overnight. After that, was anything truly impossible?
The family had a simple vegetarian breakfast and then began their New Year’s visits.
It was Su Miaoke’s first time in the countryside and her first time experiencing such a festive New Year’s atmosphere. She felt a joy unlike any she had ever known.
She had also prepared a thick stack of red envelopes in advance, and she handed them out to everyone she met.
Each one contained several hundred yuan, which made everyone absolutely ecstatic. Seeing Su Miaoke was like seeing the God of Wealth himself.
They all praised Chu Feng for his good taste and his parents for their incredible luck in having such a wonderful daughter-in-law.
Chu Feng’s mother was grinning from ear to ear the entire day. Her opinion of Su Miaoke grew even higher.
Ever since Miaoke had stepped through their door, everything in the family had been taking a turn for the better.
"Miaoke, when are you two planning on having a baby?" Chu Feng’s mother suddenly asked.
The question made Su Miaoke’s face turn beet red.
Flustered and shy, she lowered her head and nudged Chu Feng. "Our mom is asking you a question."
Chu Feng’s mother immediately shifted her gaze to her son. She walked right over, pulled him aside, and said, "Let me tell you something. Your old mother here is dying to hold a grandchild. You’d better get to it and put in some effort, or you’ll have me to answer to."
Her words left Chu Feng completely stunned.
"Mom, that’s... that’s a little fast, isn’t it? I haven’t really thought about it yet," Chu Feng said awkwardly.
"Fast? Have you looked at how old you are? Hurry up and give me a grandchild while your old mother here still has the energy to help you raise one!" Chu Feng’s mother said, her tone leaving no room for argument.
