My Mother-in-Law Gifted Me a Building

Chapter 28: The Time of Departure

Su Miaoke hid nearby, thoroughly amused as she listened to the mother and son’s conversation.

Chu Feng, having been thoroughly chewed out, walked over with a long face.

"You’re still laughing? You think this is something I can just have whenever I want? It requires your cooperation, you know," Chu Feng said.

Hearing this, Su Miaoke’s pretty face turned an even deeper shade of red, like a ripe apple.

When Chu Feng reached her, Su Miaoke gave him a hard pinch.

Then, the two of them turned and went back to their room.

「At noon.」

Chu Feng discovered that several restorative dishes had been added to the dining table.

He glanced at his mother and was instantly speechless. ’Is all this really necessary?’

「At night.」

Chu Feng, Su Miaoke, and Chu Hao set off fireworks together in the yard.

This made Su Miaoke incredibly happy. She was so excited, dancing and waving her arms about like a little kid.

"Sister-in-law, have you never set off fireworks before?" Chu Hao asked curiously, a look of surprise on his face.

"No, I’ve never done anything like this. I’ve only ever seen fireworks outside through a window, but I’ve never set them off myself," Su Miaoke said excitedly.

On second thought, it made sense. After all, she was a wealthy young heiress, a chairwoman of a company worth hundreds of millions. How would she have ever experienced the life of a rural family?

"I’ll teach you!" Chu Feng said, guiding her hands as he taught her.

After the firework was lit, it shot a tongue of flame toward the sky before bursting open in the dark night.

With a deep BOOM, a brilliant, multicolored light illuminated the surrounding scenery.

Chu Feng stood beside Su Miaoke and turned to look at her profile. Bathed in the brilliant glow of the fireworks, she possessed a beauty different from her usual self.

She was as dazzling and colorful as the fireworks, yet she also had a mysterious and cool charm.

’So beautiful!’

Chu Feng sighed in genuine admiration. He had to admit, this woman, Su Miaoke, possessed an absolutely world-class beauty.

More importantly, she was kind at heart and treated both him and his parents very well.

Chu Feng’s parents stood in the doorway, snuggled up together. Watching the three in the yard, satisfied smiles appeared on the old couple’s faces.

"Now, all that’s left is for our Hao’er to get married. Once he has a wife, we can finally be at ease. I remember when those two were just toddlers, running all over the yard... In the blink of an eye, they’re all grown up," Chu Feng’s mother sighed emotionally.

Chu Yuntian was also filled with emotion. Time flies, and it waits for no one. He, too, had once ventured out to make his way in the world. Back then, he was high-spirited and in his prime. But in the blink of an eye, more than twenty years had passed, and he was about to become a grandfather.

"Are you stupid? Why are you staring at me? Is there something on my face?" Su Miaoke glanced at Chu Feng and shot him a look.

"No, I just suddenly realized how beautiful you are," Chu Feng said.

"Hmph, the way you say it, it’s like I wasn’t beautiful before," Su Miaoke said.

Still, these days in the countryside had given Su Miaoke a new kind of feeling. This rustic atmosphere, this New Year’s spirit—it was the first time she had ever experienced it in over twenty years.

Although the day was tiring, it was worth it.

That night, the two of them held each other again and drifted off into a contented sleep.

Over the next few days, Chu Feng took Su Miaoke around to make New Year’s visits. Though all the walking was exhausting, both of their faces were brimming with happy smiles.

The New Year holiday passed by quickly.

「In the blink of an eye, it was the fifteenth day of the first lunar month—the Lantern Festival.」

After this day, Chu Hao had to return to school, and Chu Feng and Su Miaoke had to go back to Beihai.

That evening, Chu Feng’s family home was hung full of lanterns, their candles lit.

The family sat at the dining table, eating tangyuan and dumplings.

"Dad, Mom, Miaoke and I are going back to Beihai tomorrow," Chu Feng suddenly said at the table.

"Mom, Dad, I have to go back to school tomorrow, too. I’ll get a ride with my brother and sister-in-law," Chu Hao also spoke up.

Chu Yuntian and Chu Feng’s mother, who had just been laughing and talking, suddenly froze.

You could clearly see the smiles vanish from the old couple’s faces, replaced by looks of reluctance.

"You’re leaving so soon? Can’t you stay a few more days?" Chu Feng’s mother asked in a low voice.

As expected of someone who had once ventured out into the world, Chu Yuntian quickly regained his usual expression. "Young people need to be out there, making their way. The New Year is over. It’s indeed time to go."

Chu Feng looked at his parents, sighing inwardly with a sense of helplessness. "Mom, Miaoke has to go back and take care of some company matters. I have to go with her."

Su Miaoke also noticed the old couple’s reluctance. She immediately walked over, took their hands, and said, "Mom, Dad, don’t worry. As soon as I have free time, Chu Feng and I will come back to see you."

Although they were reluctant to part, this brief separation was unavoidable.

Chu Feng was suddenly reminded of a saying: "Even if the moon shines brightly in a foreign land, it cannot compare to a single lamp in one’s hometown."

Hometown... it holds all the memories of your childhood. Each visit is one less you’ll have in the future.

A tinge of sorrow couldn’t help but rise in his heart.

「Early the next morning.」

The three of them packed their luggage and got in the car.

Chu Yuntian and Chu Feng’s mother stood reluctantly at the village entrance, waving goodbye. Some other kind villagers were also there, seeing off their own children and grandchildren.

Chu Hao and Su Miaoke stuck their heads out of the car window, waving goodbye to the two elders.

The car quickly drove out of the mountains, heading straight for the Zhongnan City District.

"Hao Zi, I’ll drop you at the gate later. We won’t go in. This car is a bit too high-profile," Chu Feng said.

Driving Su Miaoke’s car right onto campus would create a bit of a bad impression.

Chu Hao nodded, but deep down, he was actually a little disappointed.

After all, what young man doesn’t want to show off in front of his classmates and buddies?

Having such a rich sister-in-law, who even drove a Mercedes S-Class, would definitely make his classmates burn with envy and jealousy.

Chu Feng understood this perfectly, which was precisely why he wasn’t giving him the chance.

Before he got out of the car, Su Miaoke stuffed a wad of cash into Chu Hao’s hands and advised, "You have to study hard, and don’t get into a relationship. When the time is right, your sister-in-law will introduce you to a good, pretty partner. If you ever need money, just let me know."

"Sister-in-law, I can’t take this. My mom already gave me money," Chu Hao tried to refuse.

"This is different. This is spending money just from your sister-in-law," Su Miaoke said.

Chu Feng said, "Just take what your sister-in-law is giving you. Otherwise, you’ll make her unhappy."

Hearing his brother say that, Chu Hao finally accepted the wad of cash.

It had to be at least ten thousand.

"Thanks, Sister-in-law!" Chu Hao said happily as he took the money. Then, he got out, grabbed his luggage, and walked through the school gate.

"So, where to now? Back to your company?" Chu Feng asked in the car.
