My Slime Wife: Training and Pampering Her Makes Me Stronger

Chapter 179: The Second Invasion Through the Altered Dungeons

The enormous violet rift above the city remained open.

From the ground, Liam could see the opening slowly twisting in the sky, as if something on the other side were trying to tear reality apart.

And then another silhouette appeared.

First came the arms.

Then a head covered in some kind of dark armor.

Finally, a complete figure began to emerge from the rift.

Liam gritted his teeth.

’Another one...’

He had no idea how many could be on the other side.

He also didn’t know if they were all seeking refuge.

But the situation was getting worse.

"Captain Armstrong, can you see that?"

"Yes."

Armstrong’s voice came through the communicator.

"We have teams monitoring the area. We don’t know what kind of creature that is, so no one will attack until we have more information."

Liam looked around.

The other sub-captains were also observing the situation from different parts of the city.

Amber, Wayne, Don Rouch, the young Tim, and Jane were coordinating their own hunters while the response teams prepared to intervene.

Liam, meanwhile, had a different mission.

Find the source of the dimensional connections.

His squad was already prepared to leave.

Jordan adjusted the strap of his backpack.

Carol checked her gloves.

Emily made sure her weapons were ready.

Chuck finished putting away his knives and prepared his gum.

Lena watched the sky with an expression far more serious than usual.

Zayn made small movements with his legs, ready to sprint at any moment.

Nora had several of her small shadow creatures surrounding her.

Ray checked the equipment he was carrying.

And Chloe remained with the group, ready to use Resonance when necessary.

Everyone was ready.

Liam took a deep breath.

"We’re leaving."

The group began to move.

However, just as Liam passed by one of the SUVs, he felt something strange on his back.

He paid it no attention.

He had too many things on his mind.

The origin of the dungeons, the connections between dimensions, the creatures crossing through the rifts, and above all, Lydia.

He had tried to convince her to stay home.

She had agreed.

Or at least, that’s what Liam thought.

◇◆◇

The vehicle sped through the streets.

Several columns of smoke could be seen in the distance.

Emergency teams had begun evacuating some areas near the dimensional rifts.

Fortunately, most civilians had already been moved to safe locations.

Liam stared out the window.

’If these connections keep growing, the city could become a battlefield.’

Pix appeared beside him in a small flash.

"You’re not going to say anything?"

Liam looked at her.

"About what?"

"About what you’re thinking."

"I don’t know what you’re talking about."

Pix narrowed her eyes.

"Liam."

"Pix."

"You’re worried about Lydia."

Liam sighed.

"Of course I’m worried."

Pix remained silent for a few seconds.

"Do you want me to keep an eye on her?"

Liam shook his head.

"No. She’s at home."

"If you say so..."

Liam looked at her suspiciously.

"What does that mean?"

"Nothing."

Pix smiled.

"Absolutely nothing."

Liam turned back toward the window.

’She’s definitely hiding something.’

But before he could think about it any further, he heard a small sound.

Plop.

Liam looked down, and his jacket had moved.

He frowned.

"What was that?"

Everyone looked at him.

Jordan raised an eyebrow.

"Are you carrying food in there?"

"No."

"Then it’s probably food."

"Jordan."

"Just saying."

Liam slowly opened his jacket.

At first, he didn’t see anything.

There were a few personal belongings and some of the equipment he had packed before leaving.

But then something moved.

A small green sphere appeared among his belongings.

Liam froze.

The small slime raised a tiny part of its body.

Then it began moving from side to side.

Liam closed his eyes.

’It can’t be...’

He carefully picked it up and lifted it.

The little slime sat on his hand.

"Lydia?"

The creature gave a tiny hop.

Plop.

Liam stared at it.

Pix immediately appeared behind him.

"Oh."

Liam slowly turned toward her.

"You knew about this?"

Pix raised both hands.

"No."

"Are you sure?"

"Absolutely."

The little slime hopped again.

Liam sighed.

"I knew I couldn’t trust you to stay home."

The slime moved happily.

"And don’t make that face."

The slime froze.

"You can’t come with me."

The slime shrank.

Liam felt a mixture of affection and frustration.

’Even while pregnant, she’s still worried about me...’

He remembered the conversation they’d had before leaving.

Lydia had agreed to stay home.

But apparently, she had found a way to accompany him without physically being there.

"Fine."

The slime moved again.

"But you’re staying with me. No running off on your own."

The slime gave another little hop.

"And you won’t use your abilities unless it’s necessary."

Another hop.

Liam narrowed his eyes.

"Was that a yes?"

The slime moved again.

"I hope so."

He carefully placed the small copy of Lydia inside his jacket, leaving enough room for her to get out if necessary.

Chuck watched the scene from the front seat.

"Boss... did I just see your wife turn into luggage?"

Liam looked at him.

"Don’t ask questions."

Chuck smiled.

"Understood, Boss."

◇◆◇

The vehicle finally came to a stop.

They had reached the outskirts of one of the dungeons that had shown signs of dimensional alterations.

At first glance, it looked like a normal structure.

But the air around the entrance felt different.

There was a slight distortion, as if space itself were trembling.

Nora sent several of her shadow creatures forward.

The small creatures disappeared among the rocks.

A few seconds later, Nora spoke.

"There’s movement."

"How many?"

"I don’t know."

Her eyes narrowed.

"But they’re not dungeon monsters."

A system message appeared before Liam.

[Pix: So they’ve already started appearing here too.]

Zayn stepped forward.

"I can scout."

Liam nodded.

"Go, but don’t stray too far."

Zayn disappeared in an instant.

A few seconds later, he returned.

"Looks like the dungeon is packed."

Ray approached one of the walls and touched it.

His expression changed.

"The density of this stone is strange."

"What do you mean?"

"It’s much heavier than it should be."

Liam looked at the entrance.

The sensation he felt was growing stronger.

This dungeon wasn’t merely connected to another dimension.

It seemed to be transforming into something else.

Pix floated in front of him.

"Liam."

"What is it?"

"I’m detecting a massive amount of dimensional energy."

"More than before?"

"Far more."

Liam clenched his fist.

"Then this could be one of the main points."

"It’s possible."

Liam stepped toward the entrance.

"We’re going in."

The group began moving forward.

And from inside Liam’s jacket, a small mass of slime moved.

Liam felt it.

He looked down.

"I told you not to come out."

The slime froze.

Liam smiled slightly.

"Stay there, sweetheart."

They continued forward.

But the moment they crossed the entrance, a massive vibration shook the entire area.

The walls began to tremble.

Lena raised her weapon.

"Was that an earthquake?"

"No."

Nora looked toward the depths.

"Something’s coming."

A deep sound echoed through the tunnel.

BOOM.

Everyone took combat positions.

Liam drew his pistol.

Pix disappeared in a flash.

The sound came again.

BOOM.

Closer.

Liam aimed into the darkness.

Then, two enormous violet eyes appeared at the end of the tunnel.

And an unfamiliar voice echoed throughout the dungeon.

"This world..."

The creature took a step toward them.

"...has too much energy."

Liam felt the small copy of Lydia moving inside his jacket.

He gritted his teeth.

’Looks like we’re finally going to find out who’s crossing through those doors.’
