Chapter 88: Stay away from Noah/Elias.
Noah’s POV
In just an expensive oversized shirt, a pair of loose boxers and no shoes, I run out of the room with Lucas in front of me.
My ankle aches with every step I take, but I need to see what the commotion is all about.
Siren is still yelling about incompetent servants, useless guards and careless brothers.
I’ve only ever seen the older omega man carrying himself with poise and perfect composure. So, hearing how angry he sounds right now scares me.
They’re in the hallway.
From this distance, I can see Damien covered in blood. The alpha’s eyes are wild with fear, and Siren looks devastated.
"Mom, I’m really sorry. He seemed fine after the fall, that was why I didn’t think to talk about it" I hear Damien say.
My chest is rising and falling with every panicked breath I take. What exactly happened to Elias? Did he fall again?
"You know Eli would never show when he’s in pain, Damien. You know that" Siren says with clear pain in his voice.
"I’m sorry, mom" Damien says and Siren lifts a hand to silence his oldest son.
"It’s okay, Damien. Go wash up and get some rest" he says tiredly and goes into the room I suspect Elias to be in.
Once he’s left all by himself in the hallway, Damien grabs his own hair and lets out a broken groan.
"Fuck" he spits out. He lets go of his hair and punches the wall in front of him violently.
"Fuck!" he roars again and Lucas rushes over to his side to stop him from hurting himself.
I’m standing frozen in this corridor. I feel unwelcomed. I feel like I’m peeping at something I should never be caught looking at.
"Damien stop it" Lucas snaps as he shakes his shoulder to make him stop.
"Elias got shot because of me" Damien says aggressively and my eyes widen.
"Elias was shot?" I ask loudly with worry bleeding into my tone, and Damien glares at me with so much hate in his eyes.
"Get him out of here before I hurt him" Damien snarls.
"What happened to Elias?" I ask, ignoring the fact that he’s threatening to hurt me.
"Noah, I think you need to get out" Lucas says, putting himself between Damien and I. He’s standing as a barrier and some sort of shield, but I need my answers.
"My husband is hurt. I need to know what happened" I say stubbornly.
"I will kill him" Damien growls and Lucas holds one of his hands out to keep the raging alpha back.
"Damien, you know Eli is not going to like that" Lucas says.
"I don’t give a fuck what Elias think!" Damien barks, startling me and Lucas.
"That bitch keeps hurting my brother in every way" he yells. His words hurt like a slap to the face, but I’m not moving.
If anyone has been hurt by anyone, it’s me. They’ve been hurting me from the moment they invaded my home and decided I was an ’it’ and not a human.
"I want to see Elias" I say calmly and Damien punches the wall next to him twice.
I don’t care.
"You can throw all the tantrum you want, and I’ll still make my demand" I say and Lucas grabs my elbow.
"Come here" he says and pulls me away.
He drags me away from Damien and I see two maids running to the room. One of them is holding a first aid box and the other is with a fresh pack of cotton wool.
"Lucas..." I protest but he doesn’t stop pulling me.
The pain from my ankle is intensifying, the insult from Damien is hurting me, and my eyes are starting to burn with tears.
"What’s going on? Is this normal?" I ask and Lucas ignores me.
"Lucas!" I snap his name harshly. That’s when he finally stops to look at me with tiredness in his eyes.
"Why can’t they just take him to a hospital?" I ask.
"Hospitals aren’t safe" he says simply.
"Isn’t Gottingen basically their country?" I ask the second question. There isn’t any logical thinking in bringing a bleeding man to a house.
"Yes, it is, but Siren has been traumatized enough" Lucas gives me his usual cryptic response.
"What do you mean?"
"There were once a group of nurses who were paid to administer overdose to the Deus kids when they were younger, Noah. To all three of them" Lucas says and my hands drop by my side.
Oh.
"Seeing them wounded or sick is a sensitive thing to Siren. He’s a good man, but I’ll advise you to stay out of the way as long as you can" he says.
I just wanted to see Elias and know he’s okay...I didn’t want to cause any trouble.
"I’ll go get you some breakfast, go wait in Elias’s room" Lucas says and I nod in defeat.
I drag myself back to the bedroom and wait with my hands on my lap.
Once again, I have to stay away from Elias Deus.
Elias’s POV
It must have been at least three days.
I’ve been going in and out of consciousness.
Everything feels like the first time I tried one of Damien’s blunts. Surreal. Unsteady. And dream-like.
There are familiar sounds around me. My mother’s stern tone. The weak sound of liquid dripping in the IV. The sharp orders to change my bandages or check the IV.
There are familiar scents too. The invasive scent of three different maids. The overwhelming smell of antiseptics. And my mother’s prominent ocean scent.
Even with my eyes closed, I know I’m home and safe.
I have familiar people around me, but one person is missing. Why isn’t the man I married here? Is he busy thinking of that Roman bastard?
I will find a good excuse to kill him.
I’ll break his bones. Burn him up and use his ashes as manure for mother’s garden. Then I’ll wait for Noah to get over his silent treatment.
Yes, I can do that now.
I lift my body to leave, and someone forces me down. What if she’s Julian’s assistant?
Defensively, I growl angrily. I bare my teeth with the goal to bite. I won’t be a lab rat again.
"Sir, please, you need to lie back" a female voice says.
"Fuck off" I hiss with a rough voice. I’m still trying to sit up and push her away from me. I don’t like being touched.
"Mr. Deus, please, you’ll hurt yourself" she says and I huff.
"Leave him" my mother’s voice says, and the woman takes her hands off me. She steps away from me with her hands behind her back.
"Lie back, Eli" mom commands coldly.
I want to whine in protest, but my body obeys his order.
I fall back into the bed with more force than necessary. The back of my head hits the pillow and I wince.
"How do you feel?" mom asks in a less icy tone.
"Noah?" I ask back as he brushes my hair off my face and presses his palm to my forehead.
"Noah is fine. He’s being protected by Lucas" he says and I relax my tense body.
"I want to go see him" I say and mom glares at me.
"No" he says flatly.
"Mom, please...it’s been three days" I give in to begging for my husband.
"It has been five hours since you returned home. You have a fever and I don’t trust you not to harm the boy" mom says and I shut my eyes.
Fuck.
"I’ll never hurt him" I say in a weak voice. I open my eyes and I can barely see through the tears.
I don’t want to hurt Noah. I want to break him but not hurt him.
"Don’t cry, love" my mother says and wipes my tears off with his sleeve. Siren is the only person I can ever be vulnerable with. He is the only person who understands me and the mess going on in my head.
"I don’t want to hurt Noah, Mom" I say again and he smiles sadly at me.
"I know you wouldn’t want to, but I’m keeping it in mind that you are having flashbacks" he says softly.
He’s right.
I’m going back and forth between reality and Julian’s cell. I might subconsciously hurt Noah physically. I don’t want to do that.
"Am I getting better any time soon?" I ask and he nods.
"You’ll have to stay here and get better faster" he says and I curse under my breath.
"I don’t want you leaving this room unless I expressly permit it, do you understand, my love?" my mom asks.
"Yes mother" I say tiredly.
Fuck. Again. I have to stay away from Noah.
The last image of him on my mind features him turning his back to me. He was mad at me for touching him roughly. He was saying he was falling for someone else.
It’s hell.
I don’t even love him, but it’s hell to know I can’t see him for a while. That he can be mine in body and soul, but not mine at heart.
