Chapter 89: NOT sneaking out

88

Noah’s POV

It’s night and I’ve been stuck in this room like a princess in a castle.

I don’t have a prince to save me, so I wait till the house is quiet.

My dragon, Lucas, is starting to doze off in Elias’s black chair. His mouth is open, his neck is at an awkward angle, and I can’t stop thinking about everything he said to me.

I’m not an easy person to convince. Years seeing fake articles about my dad has given me a stubborn mindset. I don’t care if people think I’m dense...they haven’t gone through any of the things I’ve gone through.

They haven’t tried to kill themselves after a fake news went viral. So, I still have questions. Still haven’t accepted his words. Still need proof.

"Lucas" I call his name quietly and he immediately sits up, blinking himself awake.

"Shit. Did I fall asleep?" he asks in a tired voice and I nod.

He has been watching me all day. He hasn’t taken a break or eaten anything, so it’s obvious that he’s drained.

"I think you should go to bed" I say, trying to act nonchalant about it, and he tiredly rubs his eyes.

"Can’t" he groans and stifles a yawn. "I have to look after you."

"I’m not leaving this room. There’s enough crazy men outside that door to make me stay here" I say and I see him trying to convince himself not to leave me alone.

"You won’t leave?" he asks and I lay back in the bed to prove my point. It’s a fake point, by the way, but I need him to leave the room.

"Do I look like I’m leaving?" I ask, pulling the blanket up and shutting my eyes.

Thank you, Goddess, for those acting classes I took in high school.

"Don’t do anything stupid" Lucas says in a stern tone, pointing a finger at me as I wave him away.

I don’t bother to watch as the sleepy man staggers out of the room, but the second the door is shut behind him, I sit up and get out of the bed.

I lied.

I wasn’t going to stay in this room and I was definitely going to do something stupid.

If they won’t let me see Elias, I’ll find a way to see him by myself. I’ll sneak out and I won’t get caught. I used to sneak around with Zane back at home in Winslow.

We would have never seen our first DPR Ian concert if we didn’t sneak out.

Well...we saw it from afar. Who am I kidding, we only visited the area of the venue to admire lucky attendees.

I shut the door behind me quietly and make sure Lucas is really gone before walking down the hallway with my hurting ankle.

The hall is quiet, and with how silent it is, the decorations on the wall feel more beautiful. It feels like taking a walk under the sea.

I take a careless step and hiss in pain as I put too much weight on my ankle.

"Almost there..." I whisper to myself.

I take one more step and come to a complete stop when I see a tall, muscular figure with long messy hair leaning against the balcony.

Shit! I mean...oh no!

Damien Deus is smoking and looking down the balcony. His upper body is bare and his brown pants are sitting low on his hips.

The alpha, probably smelling the fear in my pheromones, slowly turns his head in my direction. Now that his eyes are on me, it’s hard for me to run away.

"I was just..." I start to explain myself, but I snap my mouth shut when the grudge keeper in me surfaces. I still remember how rude he was to me earlier.

Jerk.

I turn to leave, but he sighs loudly. "Noah" he calls my name with authority and I stop in my tracks.

"I’m sorry for how much of an asshole I was earlier" he says and I slowly turn around to look at him with surprise on my face.

What?

Damien Deus, the biggest monster of the Gods family, is apologizing to me? Is this a trap?

"I was scared for my brother’s life" he says without looking up. The moonlight is strong tonight, but his face is covered by the shadows.

"What does that have to do with me?" I ask grudgingly.

"He likes you too much, and it bothers me" he says softly before taking a drag of what he’s smoking.

I don’t think he’s smoking a cigarette. Zane used to sneak something called a joint into my room before he got caught.

"Don’t worry. I don’t think Elias likes me, and if he does, I won’t return the feeling" I say.

It’s another lie.

I don’t know why I’ve been lying these days.

"I know my brother better than you do, Noah. And don’t even try to fool me Noah" Damien laughs, taking his eyes off what he’s watching downstairs.

"You don’t like him and you’re sneaking out to go see him in a house full of dangerous men?" Damien asks and my throat goes dry.

"I was going to get some water..." I point over my shoulder with my thumb and he gives me a half smile, lifting his head to show me his face.

He looks terrifyingly like the incarnation of chaos.

He’s handsome, but he also looks like he’s out of his mind.

"The kitchen is that way, and you’re going this way. You should know lying doesn’t look good on you, little gold" the alpha says and I hear a high-pitched whine from downstairs.

He must have been standing here to look after his dogs.

"Are you going to expose me for sneaking?" I ask and he lifts the joint between his fingers, tilting his head to the side with a weak smile.

"Are you going to expose me for smoking?" he asks and I relax immediately.

He keeps my secret and I keep his secret.

I guess this is how Damien and I would become friends.

"Thanks" I say and continue my limp down the hallway, leaving Damien to continue smoking and watching his dogs.

It doesn’t take too long before I stop at the room Elias is in.

I haven’t seen him yet and my omega is already whining for the alpha.

I push the door open to peek in, and the sight of him is so painful that for no reason, I almost burst into tears.

He’s wrapped in bandages, he looks pale, and if not for the slight movements of his chest, I would assume he was dead.

’My alpha’ my omega whimpers.
