Chapter 181
Ethan’s Point of View
Nathan and I followed Derek up to see his father, the old Alpha Michael. We wanted to talk to him about the people that keep on coming onto our territories uninvited and the fact that we were worried they might be after Kate. I knew it would have been a good idea to tell Kate about that, but there was no reason to have her worry if they weren’t after her.
"Come in," Michael said, and Derek opened the door.
"I am shocked to see you three together after the way you stormed out of here after you heard Kate spent the night with them last night," Michael said
"We talked about it. You were right. I was wrong for reacting the way I did," Derek said
"I guess Kate didn’t like you telling her what to do when it came to her mates, huh?" Michael asked
"She was upset," Derek said
"I knew she would be," Michael said
"Anyway, that is not why I brought them here. There is something that we need to talk to you about," Derek said
"Well, come have a seat," Michael said, and we all sat in his office. "What’s going on?" Michael asked.
"We have been having people come on our territory uninvited. It happened twice. Both times were when Kate had come to visit us. No one ever trespasses on our territory because of the rumors; they are too afraid to do that. At first we thought they were rogues, but now we are not sure. Whoever it is has been hiding their scent. Our trackers can’t find them," I said
"We have been having that same issue, Dad. That is why I had them come," Derek said
"You think they are after Kate?" Michael asked
"There is a high possibility they are," Nathan said
"But why would anyone come after her? She doesn’t have any enemies. Could it be because they are trying to use her to get to one of us?" Derek asked
"There is a chance that they are coming after her for another reason. We need to keep her safe," Michael said. I could see fear in his eyes.
"What reason would that be?" I asked
"It’s nothing that concerns you," Michael said
"What do you mean by that? She is your mate," Nathan said
"Dad, what is going on?" Derek asked, and Michael sighed
"If Kate is in danger, you need to tell us so that we can protect her. She is our mate, and it is our job to make sure she is safe. We can’t do that if you keep important information from us," Nathan said`
"I know that you are right. I will tell you the truth, but you must promise to keep this to yourself. You cannot tell Kate," Michael said
"Dad, you are scaring me. What is this about?" Derek asked.
"The night Kate was born, she stopped breathing. She was pronounced dead immediately," Michael said
"What? Why didn’t I know about this? All I remember was the celebration of her birth," Derek said
"You were young. Plus. the night she was born, a man came to us. He was a warlock. He told your mom and me that he woudl bring her back. He also said that there was a catch. We would have to agree to let her marry his son when the time came. We agreed because we were desperate. We didn’t want to lose our baby girl. We agreed, and she instantly started to cry. When we looked up again, the man was gone," Michael said
"So what you are telling us is that you think that the person who keeps coming unannounced might be that same warlock?" I asked
"Yes," Michael said
"Dad, you should have told me about this," Derek said
"I know. At first your mom and I worried that that man would come back and take her from us, but as time went by we thought he would never come again. Now I wonder if we were wrong and he is after her," Michael said
"We won’t let him get to her. We will protect her with our lives," I said
"Yes, no one will ever get close enough to harm her," Nathan added.
"We have to keep this from her. I don’t want her to worry or think something bad about herself," Michael said
"I understand," Nathan and I said at the same time.
I didn’t want to keep things from her, but I also didn’t want her to worry. We would protect her so that she would never have to learn about this.
"We need to have extra guards around her. Also, there needs to be more guards guarding the border," Michael said
"I will have some of my guards come and help guard her as well," I said
I was going to make sure Kate was safe if it was the last thing I did.
