Chapter 168
Nathan’s POV
"We shouldn’t have let our Mate talk to them alone. What if they try to get her to reject us?" I said as I paced back and forth, waiting for my Mate.
"Calm down, Nathan. They are her parents, and we have to let them talk. I am sure they are worried because of the rumors about us," Ethan said. I didn’t understand how he could stay calm in the situation we were in. About a minute later, the door opened, and my Mate walked out of her father’s office with her parents by her side.
"Can I speak to the two of you in private," Kate’s father asked.
"Sure," Ethan said, and we walked into his office, leaving our Mate with her mother, Keith, and Ebony. We sat in the same seats we were in earlier and waited for our Mates father to speak.
"I spoke with Kate about you being her mates and," He started, but I cut him off.
"Before you finish saying whatever it is you were about to say, I wanted to let you know that we are not going to let Kate go. My brother and I know you have heard the rumors about us and are most likely upset that we are your daughter’s Mate and don’t approve, but I don’t care what you think," I said, causing Kate’s father to raise one of his eyebrows shocked at what I had just said.
"Nathan," My brother tried to cut me off, but I kept speaking.
" Look, I know you are worried about your daughter being our Mate because of the rumors going around about us, but you should know you can’t believe everything you hear. We are not as bad as you think we are. Everything we have done was for a good reason, and we would never hurt our Mate. We plan on treating her like a Queen and giving her the world," I said. Kate’s father looked at us for a moment and sighed.
"I can tell you mean every word you say, which makes me happy. You are right. I am worried about the two of you being my daughter’s Mate. The rumors about you are terrible. But I know the Moon Goddess made you my daughter’s Mate for a reason. Kate said she was going to give you a chance, and her mom and I stand by her decision," Kate’s father said
"Thank you, Mr. Smith," Ethan said
"Call me Michael. I would also like to get to know you better. Can I ask you a personal question? I wouldn’t ask, but it would clear a lot of things for me if you would answer it," Michael asked. I had a feeling I knew which question he wanted to ask, but I didn’t say anything.
"Sure. What would you like to know?" Ethan asked
"Why did you kill your father?" Michael asked the question I knew he was going to ask.
"I know everyone thinks our father was a great Alpha. He put on a great show for everyone outside of the Red Moon Pack, but really, he was a terrible person evil," Ethan said, and Michael stayed quiet, waiting for him to continue.
"When we were younger, he used to mistreat us. You know our mother was human and passed away giving birth to us. Everyone believed he got over it, but he didn’t. He blamed Nathan and me for her death. He would abuse us physically and emotionally from a very young age. Not only was he abusing us but also our Pack. He would force himself on the she-wolves and kill their Mate if they tried to protect them. He didn’t care about anyone but himself. One day Nathan and I told him we weren’t going to let him mistreat our Pack anymore, and he didn’t like our threat. He attacked me, and we had no choice but to kill him, or he would kill us," Ethan said. Michael stayed silent for a moment before replying.
"I guess the rumors about your father being an evil man were true. Some of the Pack Members of your Pack tried to warn everyone that your father wasn’t okay and was mistreating the Red Moon Pack, but everyone thought they were lying," Michael said
"Yeah, we know. Everyone that tried to alert the Council was killed," Ethan said
"That’s why we never saw any of them again. Damn," Michael said, hitting his desk in anger. "I should have known," Michael said and shocked me with his next reply. "You two must have gone through a lot at such a young age. You saw things pups should never have seen. I am so sorry you had to go through all of that," Michael said
"It wasn’t your fault," I said
"Yes, it was. It was all our fault. We should have listened and stepped in and done something," Michael said, and Ethan and I stayed silent.
"It makes sense to me now why you did what you did, and I want you both to know you did the right thing," Michael said
"Thanks for saying that," Ethan said
"I am sure you would like to speak with your Mate. Please be patient with my daughter. She can be a handful and is very stubborn," Michaels said
"We promise to be patient with her and will go at her pace," Ethan said. We left Michael’s office and walked to the living room, where Kate was sitting with her mom. When Kate saw us, she immediately stood up from the couch. I could tell she was nervous.
"Hello," Ethan said
"Hi," Kate replied.
"Can we talk privately?" I asked, and she looked at her father, who nodded.
"Sure."
