Chapter 106: Wait, What Does This Have to Do With Her?
"The security cameras were installed by the administration department." The woman who had brought Mama Knight to the break room earlier came in to clarify.
She handed over the surveillance footage.
"The surveillance video shows a detailed recording of how this nanny secretly slipped the watch into Ms. Knight’s bag. Oh, and after she did it, she pretended to pour herself a glass of water, but she was actually sending a voice message saying the job was done. As for who she sent it to, we’ll find out by checking her chat history."
Jane Lancaster added with a smile, "Even if the chat history has been deleted, I’m sure your technical team can recover it, right?"
The investigating police officer nodded. "We can. We won’t let a single criminal get away."
With the surveillance footage as evidence, the situation was crystal clear. Samuel Miller had orchestrated the whole thing, directing the nanny and the security guard to frame Mama Knight for theft.
Not only did they frame her, but they also called the police. Their intentions were malicious, and it was a blatant challenge to public authority.
"Please, I beg you, spare me! I was forced into it! I have elders to support and children to raise, I can’t go to jail!" The nanny started crying in fear.
Mama Knight hesitated for a moment, then turned to look at Jane Lancaster.
Jane Lancaster smiled and said, "Since you did the crime, you have to face the consequences."
She paused, then emphasized, "This matter must be pursued to the fullest extent of the law. We will not accept any settlement!"
Seeing her pleas were useless, the nanny’s face filled with resentment. "You just said you wouldn’t press charges!"
’How can someone who looks so beautiful and kind on the outside be so cruel at heart?’
"Did I say that? I don’t think so." Jane Lancaster paused. "I did give you two a chance, but it’s a shame you didn’t take it."
Before they were cornered with hard evidence, they both insisted that Mama Knight was the thief. They knew she would be wrongly sent to jail, yet they didn’t show the slightest bit of compassion.
Now that the knife was at their own throats, they were finally feeling the pain.
"Actually, I already guessed you wouldn’t turn on him. After all, Samuel Miller paid you off. To you, money is obviously the most important thing."
"I never planned on letting you off, either. I was just bored and running a little test." Jane Lancaster’s eyes were ice-cold. "The moment you targeted Mama Knight, you thoroughly enraged me."
A chill ran down Samuel Miller’s spine. "Melody Knight recognized me yesterday, didn’t she? You’re doing this on purpose to get back at me!"
Jane Lancaster said, "You slandered Mama Knight once over a decade ago, and you must have felt pretty smug pulling the same trick again, right? Let me tell you, this isn’t over. You need to explain, in full detail, how you and your mother framed Mama Knight all those years ago and make a public apology."
Samuel Miller turned his head away and said nothing. He had only been tripped up today because he got careless, but to expect him to clear the air and apologize for something that happened over ten years ago? In his dreams!
But just because he was silent didn’t mean others couldn’t read the situation.
A crowd of onlookers had gathered at the door, many of whom were Samuel Miller’s colleagues.
"So Supervisor Miller really did steal his mom’s bracelet in middle school and then frame the nanny?"
"Oh my god, to be so vicious at such a young age!"
"I always said there was something off about his character. The moment he gets a little power, he loves ordering people around. Turns out he’s been rotten to the core since he was a kid."
"His parents are part of the problem, too. Their kid steals something and instead of scolding or punishing him, they join in on slandering the nanny and even send her to jail? Are they insane?"
Samuel Miller’s face turned completely black. He was so angry he looked like he was about to hit someone, but a quick-reacting police officer restrained him and led him away.
Jane Lancaster said, "Mama Knight, I’m sorry. I didn’t realize what was happening in time. You’ve been wronged."
She had laid the groundwork in advance, arranging the break room and installing the hidden camera, but she had been so busy with her head down, working, that she hadn’t noticed how the situation was developing.
"I know, I know all of it! Miss Jane was helping me!"
Mama Knight was crying and laughing at the same time. Seeing the look of utter defeat on Samuel Miller’s face, she felt absolutely ecstatic.
Miss Jane had thoroughly avenged her today! She had never imagined that the false accusation she had shouldered all those years ago would one day be cleared!
Back then, Samuel Miller had been so arrogant and smug, looking at her as if she were trash.
She never thought that one day he would be forced to bow his "noble" head to a humble, low-class person like her.
—
Luna Morgan felt that something was off all the way until the end of the workday.
Quentin Woods had left early, and everyone else had dejected looks on their faces. The atmosphere was very tense.
It wasn’t until she walked out of the studio and saw Mama Knight that she finally realized what was wrong.
"Where’s Supervisor Miller?"
Mia Lanley couldn’t keep her composure, and her expression changed instantly.
"What on earth happened? Hurry up and tell me!" Luna Morgan had a gut feeling that something had gone wrong and was getting anxious.
Mia Lanley glanced around before pulling her into a corner to talk.
"I don’t dare say anything to the Professor, but can I please ask you for help...?"
"This is what happened. Supervisor Miller saw that you were scared of that nanny yesterday, so he asked a few questions. When he found out she used to bully you, he insisted on getting revenge on your behalf..."
"I was a fool for not stopping him!"
...
Jane Lancaster worked even later that day. By the time she came out, almost everyone in the entire building had left.
The administrator who had testified earlier had been keeping Mama Knight company. She only picked up her bag and left after seeing Jane Lancaster emerge.
"Quick, Miss Jane, eat your dinner first." Mama Knight hurriedly opened the food container.
She was always worried about Jane Lancaster’s three meals a day. Knowing that Miss Jane had a sensitive stomach and couldn’t eat too late, she insisted Jane eat before heading home.
Jane Lancaster was starving. The day’s tasks had been demanding, severely draining her physical and mental energy. She desperately needed to refuel.
By the time the car drove into the Lancaster Family’s private residential area, it was almost eleven o’clock.
A person was standing under a streetlight up ahead. Jane Lancaster recognized her at a glance—it was Luna Morgan.
Mama Knight was dozing off, so Jane didn’t plan on saying anything.
But Luna Morgan suddenly dashed into the middle of the road.
The driver jumped, slamming on the brakes. He almost cursed her out for being a lunatic, but after a glance at Jane Lancaster, he managed to hold his tongue.
Jane Lancaster thought for a moment, then decided to get out of the car and walk over. "Luna, long time no see. Were you looking for me?"
’She’s coming to me at this hour... don’t tell me she wants to plead for Samuel Miller?’
’No, wait, what does this have to do with her?’
’I didn’t even tell the driver to stop and wasn’t planning on greeting her, but she still ran out in front of the car!’
’It’s so late and I’m so tired. Can I please just go home and sleep? I really don’t want to keep up this act anymore. Let me clock out already!’
On the surface, Jane Lancaster remained calm and composed, but inwardly, she was complaining nonstop.
—
Alvin Lancaster had his cast removed and went to the office today, working late into the night before heading home.
He had just gotten home when he realized his sister wasn’t there. He also heard from a servant that Luna Morgan had apparently been seen at the entrance to the residential area...
He had tried asking Luna Morgan out these past two days, but she always said she was busy. Could it be that she’d had a change of heart and was here to see him?
’She must have heard my foot is better and came specially to celebrate with me!’
’Really, coming all the way over here this late at night without giving me a heads-up!’
Alvin Lancaster was grinning from ear to ear. Giddy with joy, he didn’t even bother driving and started running to meet her.
From a distance, he saw Luna Morgan’s figure under the streetlight. He was just about to call out when he witnessed a heart-stopping scene: Luna actually ran out to block a car!
Thank goodness the driver reacted quickly, or there would have been an accident!
Even if Alvin Lancaster was a bit dense, he could tell something was wrong. It seemed Luna wasn’t here to see him.
He instinctively hid behind a screen wall, listening to their conversation.
