Chapter 105: Did You Personally Apologize to Mama Knight?
The slam on the table startled everyone. They all glanced at his dark expression... a little afraid to speak.
Jane Lancaster’s expression remained unchanged as she continued speaking to the nanny and the security guard. "Ignore him. Hurry up. You don’t have much time left."
The nanny pursed her lips. "I don’t know what you’re talking about."
The security guard shot to his feet. "Are you some kind of f*cking mad dog, just making wild accusations?"
Several more security guards streamed in through the doorway, glaring at Jane Lancaster and Mama Knight. "Who’s causing trouble? Is it you two?"
A middle-aged woman urged, "You two should hurry up and apologize to Supervisor Miller. What reason would he have to frame a mere maid?"
"Exactly. With Supervisor Miller’s status and position, would he really bother picking a fight with a maid?"
"Even if you wanted to frame someone, you should have picked a different target. You have no brains."
Samuel Miller wore a smug expression. ’So what if you’ve guessed the truth? You still don’t have any proof, do you?’
Jane Lancaster said, "So, you’ve both decided against exposing him? Fine. Then you can all go to jail together."
The nanny’s eyelid twitched violently, and a strange sense of unease crept into her heart...
She edged closer to Samuel Miller, a hint of fear in her voice. "Young Master..."
Samuel Miller shot her a warning glance before turning back to Jane Lancaster. "Fine. Let’s wait for the police right here and see who’s really going to jail."
Before the police could arrive, a man came rushing in from outside. "What are you all doing? Move, get out of the way!"
Samuel Miller glanced up. He recognized the man—it was the head of security. "Walt..."
Walt deliberately avoided his gaze and walked straight toward the security guard.
"Brother-in-law..."
Walt slapped him right across the face. "Get the f*ck out! You’re fired!"
The security guard was stunned. "Brother-in-law, what do you mean?"
"It means you’re done for! And thanks to you, you idiot, I’m f*cking done for too!"
Samuel Miller’s head snapped up, and he glared at Jane Lancaster. "Did you do this?"
’So, her reach extends this far? She can actually meddle in the association’s internal affairs? I really underestimated her.’
Jane Lancaster feigned a baffled expression. "It has nothing to do with me. I’m guessing it was your association’s president. If you think it’s unfair, go take it up with him."
"Impossible! You’re lying!" Samuel Miller found this laughable. ’Their association’s president is a big shot. Does she really think a little girl like her could ever get in touch with him?’
Jane Lancaster sighed. ’See? No one ever believes you when you tell the truth.’
Suddenly, Samuel Miller’s phone rang. Seeing it was a call from Quentin Woods, he scrambled to answer it.
"What the hell did you do? The president just called me, saying he’s firing you!"
"What?" Samuel Miller’s eyes widened in utter disbelief.
He glanced at the perfectly composed Jane Lancaster, and a chill ran down his spine. ’This woman seems so mild-mannered, but she’s the quiet type you have to watch out for. A dog that bites doesn’t bark.’
"Professor, I’m begging you, please put in a good word for me. I can’t lose this job..."
"Piss off! Clean up your own damn mess. If you dare drag me into this, I’ll kill you!" With that, the line went dead.
Only then did Samuel Miller truly panic. While he wasn’t Quentin Woods’s most talented student, he had always been the one who best curried his favor.
In the past, no matter how big the trouble he got into, as long as he offered a little something, his mentor would easily make it all go away.
This cold, merciless rush to cut ties was completely unprecedented.
’Just what is this Jane Lancaster’s background? How can it be so unfathomably deep?’
Realizing the root of the problem was Jane Lancaster, Samuel Miller quickly composed himself and forced a smile onto his face.
"Ah, miss, there must be some misunderstanding between us. I’m sure we can clear it up. For instance, perhaps we both listened to one side of the story from the maids..."
Jane Lancaster replied, "Mama Knight wouldn’t lie. I’ve offered to gift her tens of millions in jewelry and a luxury home, and she refused. Do you really think she’d bother stealing a watch worth a couple million?"
Samuel Miller cursed inwardly. ’What the hell? Who treats a lowly nanny like their own family?’
’Tens of millions in jewelry and a luxury home...’ Even he was tempted just hearing about it.
’Unfortunately, the Miller family business was just a small-time operation. His own mother had been a total cheapskate when buying him his watch that was worth over a million.’
’Melody Knight really hit the jackpot, running into a naive, sheltered little rich girl like this.’
Samuel Miller plastered on a smile. "In that case, it must be my nanny who was lying."
He gave his nanny a hard shove. "Qian, did you misplace the watch yourself and then blame someone else because you were afraid of the consequences?"
Shoved out into the open, the nanny was completely stunned. "It wasn’t me..."
Samuel Miller snapped, "Shut up! You’re the one who screwed up, and you still dare to argue!"
The nanny was too frightened to say another word.
Jane Lancaster watched them quietly for a moment before speaking in a cool, level voice. "Is that all? You slandered Mama Knight. Have you personally apologized to her?"
Samuel Miller’s face turned grim. ’Apologize to an ant? Absolutely impossible!’
Jane Lancaster stood up. "Then I guess there’s nothing left to discuss..."
Samuel Miller mumbled grudgingly, "I’m sorry."
Jane Lancaster turned her head. "Mama Knight, did you hear that?"
Mama Knight understood the look in her young lady’s eyes and said in a flat, emotionless voice, "I didn’t hear anything."
Samuel Miller secretly gritted his teeth. After a moment, he raised his voice. "I’m sorry!"
Jane Lancaster stretched her limbs and sat back down. "Well, since you’ve apologized."
Samuel Miller breathed a silent sigh of relief. ’Does this mean she’s dropping it?’ He had figured she wouldn’t want to make the situation too ugly.
’After all, I’m still Professor Woods’s student. If she wants to come after me, she’ll have to pay a steep price. Reaching a settlement is naturally for the best.’
’Besides, women are usually afraid of making trouble. Very few would dare to be so headstrong and confrontational. It’s only normal for her to back down.’
’As for the humiliation he suffered today... a wise man knows when to bend and when to stand tall. Sooner or later, he would get his revenge on Melody Knight personally.’
Seeing the tension in the room ease, the security supervisor’s mind began to whir.
’If Jane Lancaster could forgive Samuel Miller, she could surely forgive his own brother-in-law.’
He turned to see his brother-in-law standing there in a daze, so he backhanded him across the face again. "You idiot! Hurry up and apologize!"
"I-I’m sorry! I know I was wrong..."
Mama Knight glanced at her young lady but said nothing.
’She had a feeling it wasn’t over. She knew her young lady’s ways. She might look gentle and elegant, but she was incredibly resolute.’
’Once she made a decision, she wasn’t afraid of offending anyone.’
’Besides, her young lady never actually said she was dropping the matter...’
"Who called the police?" Several officers pushed the door open and walked in.
"I did, I did!" Samuel Miller explained hurriedly. "Sorry to make you officers come all this way for nothing. It was all just a misunderstanding..."
As he spoke, he pulled out a pack of cigarettes and tried to offer them around, but no one accepted.
"Excuse me, but I also called the police." Jane Lancaster stood up. "These three conspired to frame and falsely accuse my auntie. We will not be settling this."
The few people who thought the matter was over felt as if they’d been plunged into a freezing cellar.
Samuel Miller realized he’d been played for a fool. He glared at Jane Lancaster in fury. "What proof do you have?"
Jane Lancaster simply smiled, walked over to the water cooler in the corner, and removed a hidden camera that had been placed on top of it.
Samuel Miller’s mind went blank. The blood drained from his face, and a loud ringing filled his ears.
"You secretly installed a camera in our association!" he yelled, grasping at straws.
