Chapter 23: Genesis Classes
“Once she starts talking about it, she won’t stop for hours,” Sarah said before calling through the holographic privacy curtain. “John should play sorcerer, then I can teach him everything I know.”
“And leave him in the dust,” Rebecca replied. “I don’t know what benefits you got from your rebirth, but I highly doubt a new player will be able to keep up with you.”
“She’s got you there,” Adria smirked before turning to the privacy curtain and adding, “You should play thief like me, John.”
“I’m with Rebecca on this one,” Alexia calmly stated. “If John becomes a necromancer, he could also learn from me and become the next Green Flames of Death.”
“Green Flames of Death in Genesis?” John repeated. “That sounds cool, but how do you get green flames?”
“Right, doesn't it?” Alexia asked proudly. “I completed a quest which rewarded me with a passive skill of the same name. The skill not only turns my flames green but also gives them a chance to inflict poison as well as burning.”
As she finished speaking, Alexia, along with Adria and Sarah, turned and looked at Maria.
Maria, who had been silent the entire time and was professionally standing slightly behind and to the side of Alexia, simply replied with the word, “Cleric.”
“Ehh, I don’t really see John as a healing class,” Sarah replied.
“Then why did you all ask for my opinion?” Maria calmly asked.
“Exactly how many classes are there in Genesis?” John asked.
“At present there are eleven, with five of them being exclusive,” Sarah explained. “Druid is exclusive to the Elves, Necromancer to the Humans, Dragoon to the Dragonians, Warlock to the Orcs, and Shaman to the Dwarfs.”
“Why do you say ‘at present’?” John asked before adding. “And why do only the five races that contributed to Tia get a race-exclusive class?”
“That’s because more classes may be discovered and unlocked in the future,” Alexia replied. “At the launch of Genesis, there were only six. Cleric, Guardian, Hunter, Sorcerer, Thief and Warrior. As for why only five have racial exclusives, there are two assumptions; first is that Tia bestowed these five races with an exclusive class entirely because she is made up of those five; however, that also doesn’t make sense since Tia is impartial. The more likely reason is that the other races are simply yet to discover and unlock their exclusive class.”
“Still seems rather odd that they haven’t unlocked their classes after more than a hundred years,” John replied just as the machine scanning the MK VI made a noise and Rebecca passed through the privacy screen and went to check the results.
"How is it?" Alexia asked with concern.
"Not the highest concentration of poison we have seen from a MK VI, probably because of its age; however, it is still way into the danger zone. We need to wait on his test results." Rebecca replied and just as she finished speaking, the scanner, which was scanning John, beeped as the light went out.
Rebecca approached the bedside again and checked the results before turning to John and asking, Ok, so good news or bad news, which do you want first?"
"Bad."
"You're poisoned," Rebecca replied.
"Rebecca, can't you show a little more tact?" Adria asked with a sigh.
"In my experience, there is no point in beating around the bush when delivering bad news, so calm down, as this is where the good news comes in,” Rebecca answered. "It's not life-threatening. Most likely because you never accessed Genesis; however, you're still going to need a few treatment sessions to eliminate the poison, though it shouldn’t take long."

John nodded before saying, “Thanks.”
"No problem, kido; it’s what I’m here for," Rebecca said with a smile.
Sarah smiled happily before saying, "That's great news, John. Though it does mean you will have to wait a bit before we can properly test your magical capabilities."
"Oh, can you use magic?" Rebecca asked with interest.
“Is this true, Sarah?” Alexia asked while a look of surprise appeared in Maria’s eyes.
“We believe so, as John felt something upon passing through the inner wall and claims to have seen Yggdrasil,” Sarah replied. “Though it seems he never took the magical aptitude test in school.
"Never took the test? What was that damn school playing at?” Alexia cursed before insisting that Sarah explain everything.
As Sarah was doing that, Rebecca smiled at John and said, "Hmm, not bad, kiddo, you're pretty lucky."
“Rebecca, you really do have no tact,” Adria sighed.
“It’s the scientist in me,” Rebecca shrugged before adding. “You can get dressed again, kiddo.”
Adria sighed before saying, “Please forgive her, John; she has never been any good with tact and always just says what comes into her mind."
"It's fine, I actually quite like people who say whatever they're thinking," John replied while pulling on his t-shirt.
"Oh, why, kiddo?" Rebecca asked before winking at him and saying in a flirtatious tone. “I hope you're not just saying that to impress me.”
“Would you kindly not flirt with your patients?” Adria asked in a reproachful tone. “If you want to do that, go roleplay with one of your many admirers.”
Rebecca winked at John to show that she was only teasing Adria and causing mischief, so John just smiled before saying, "Because you're the type of person that makes terrible liars."
Rebecca stared at him in surprise before bursting out in laughter. “True, very true. I suck at games where I have to be deceitful and my honest opinions often got me in trouble at school."
As Sarah finished explaining, Alexia glanced at Maria, who nodded before fiddling with her access band as Alexia said, “It still gets you in trouble.”
Rebecca, however, ignored the remark as she deactivated the holographic privacy screen while saying, "You're alright, Kido. I would be happy to handle your recovery treatment from here on out."
"I don't want to put you out; I’m sure you have plenty to do in Genesis and I don’t even know where I’ll be living," John replied.
“A penthouse apartment has already been arranged for you at Eclipse Views,” Maria announced.
“Penthouse apartment?” John repeated in surprise.
“Wow, Eclipse Views that's where I live. You sure went all out, Maria,” Sarah said happily.
“I am just serving her majesty to the best of my abilities,” Maria replied while offering a small bow.
“Considering the two of you seemed to get along, I decided it would be best for you to look after John, at least until he gets accustomed to everything,” Alexia explained.
“Or until he gets fed up with you,” Adria teased, causing Sarah to glare at her.
Alexia ignored the bickering pair, for she knew better than most that while they would often tease each other, they would always be there to support each other if they ever needed it. So she instead she said, “I believe you should accept Rebecca’s offer; there’s no better doctor.”
“Except that mad scientist,” Kaela, who had been quiet up till now as she listened to their conversation, remarked.
“Then I will happily accept; please take care of me,” John stated as he gave Rebecca a slight bow.
“Hoo there, kiddo, not that I don’t appreciate it, but aren't you supposed to greet the empress like that first?” Rebecca asked with a smile.
“Probably,” John replied simply, causing Rebecca to raise an eyebrow in surprise before she glanced at Alexia, who subtly shook her head.
“Err, sure, well anyway. About we get your access band update,” Rebecca replied as she quickly changed the topic before walking back to her desk, where she rummaged in a drawer for a moment before pulling something out.
“Ta da,” She said proudly as she held out a jet-black access band.
"What is that?" Alexia asked in surprise.
“Err, an access band,” Rebecca replied.
"I can see that,” Alexia replied while rolling her eyes. “What I meant was, why is it jet black? That's not the latest model."
“Nope, it's better," Rebecca stated with a large smile.
"Better how?" Adria asked suspiciously
"Secret," Rebecca said with a smug smile.
“Rebecca!” Alexia said, giving the black haird women a clear warning.
“Ok, ok,” Rebecca replied before continuing. “This is a specially developed access band that Thasinia, Sakoto, myself and several others have been working on for a while. It’s called the MK Zero.”
“Not the mad scientist,” Kaela sighed before adding. “Don’t touch it, John.”
“MK Zero?” Alexia repeated while raising an eyebrow.
Rebecca raised her hands defensively before saying, "I know what you're going to say, Alexia, but don't worry. We already had Tia do a full check on it to make sure it's compatible with Genesis and that it's safe to use."
"Then have any of you tried to use it?" Alexia asked with a suspicious look.
