“So where are we heading since John isn’t bothered about getting recognised in the throne room?” Sarah asked.

“We’re heading for the medical lab; turn here,” Adria replied as she stopped fiddling with her access band and instructed John to turn into a different corridor that was still full of pictures on one side that Kaela walked through, while the other side looked out onto one of the palace's gardens. “Mother said that she will meet us there.”

“Makes sense,” Sarah nodded.

Adria noticed that John was busy admiring the palace and so said, “Tell me more about your race change.”

“Race change?” Kaela asked curiously.

“I managed to change my race and become part phoenix in Genesis,” Sarah replied before she went on to explain everything that happened since she and John first saw the Perfect Blood of the Immortal Phoenix Pearl’s information.

“Wow,” Kaela remarked after hearing the story.

“Those stats are overpowered as fuck,” Adria stated in shock.

“Language, Adria, you're the human princess,” Kaela admonished, but Adria just ignored her and said, “So that’s what a transcendent tier item is capable of.”

“Yeah, I can’t wait to log back into Genesis and try out my new powers while I level with John,” Sarah said in excitement.

“Assuming you end up in the same starter village,” Adria teased.

“I have faith that Tia will make it happen.”

“Uh-huh.”

“I’m so jealous of you all being able to play Genesis.”

Eventually they reached a door that had the words ‘Medical Room’ on a sign above it, and as Adria pushed the door open and entered, John followed her inside to find a room with several medical beds and multiple different types of apparatus. Along one wall was a bookshelf that looked as if it was stuffed with too many books, while several pictures and photos hung on other walls.

As the door opened, a woman with long black hair who sat in a swivel chair reading a book spun around in the swivel chair and glanced up from her book to see who had entered with a pair of emerald green eyes. After seeing who it was, she placed a bookmark on the page she had been reading before snapping the book closed and asking, “About time, do you realise how long you brats have kept me waiting?”

“Sorry, Rebecca, we got a little held up,” Adria apologised.

“Oh, did something interesting happen?” Rebecca asked curiously as her emerald green eyes landed on John and she began to inspect him from top to bottom. “Hmm, your body’s in good shape. Do you work out?”

“No,” John replied.

“Then how did you get such a good figure at your age?”

“How do you know what my figure is like when I’m still wearing clothes?”

“Why, are you offering to let me see you naked?” Rebecca teased, causing Adria and Sarah to flush.

“Rebecca, stop teasing my new friend; he’s in desperate need of a checkup,” Kaela remarked after entering one of the pictures on the wall and sitting in a swivel chair much like Rebecca’s.

“Your friend, huh?” Rebecca said in surprise as her interest in John increased. “You already made friends with Kaela? Fascinating.”

Rebecca continued to observe John with a small smile until he began to feel uncomfortable and shifted position slightly. Rebecca noticed this and smiled in amusement before smugly stating, “I can tell how good a person's build is even with clothes on because I’m the best.”

“Smug much,” Sarah mumbled quietly. {Why is she showing so much interest in John? Can’t she go find another man to tease? I mean, there are enough of them throwing themselves at her.}

“I’ve earned the right to be smug,” Rebecca replied as she glanced at Sarah. “Just as you have after your recent achievement in Genesis. Congratulations, by the way.”

“Thanks,” Sarah replied as her face flushed again at both being caught and being congratulated by the women she had complained internally about.

“So you're John,” Rebecca stated as she turned back to John while fiddling with her access band. “Empress Alexia told me to run a full check on you, as you may have contracted the MK VI poison. Did you bring the MK VI with you?”

“Here,” John replied as he approached her while removing the towel from his jacket pocket that contained the MK VI and offered it to her.

Rebecca stopped fiddling with her access band and accepted the towel before placing it on her desk surprsiingly neat desk and unwrapping it to reveal the access band that looked like an old bronze bangle

“Yup, it’s a MK VI, alright,” Rebecca said with a frown as Adria came closer to inspect it before Rebecca picked it up with a set of tweezers and placed it on a machine. After this, she pressed a button, and the machine came to life as a light seemed to go back and forth over the access band, scanning it.

"Ok, that will take a few minutes to scan, so let's get you set up. Take off your shirt for me." Rebecca instructed.

"Err, pardon."

“What's this?” Rebecca teased. “A few moments ago it sounded like you wanted to get undressed for me. What's wrong? Have you suddenly turned all shy?”

“I made no such comment,” John replied before he began to take his shirt off while Adria and Sarah pretended not to be interested.

Rebecca smirked at the girls' reactions and stood up, pulling John towards one of the medical beds before pressing a button on the wall which activated a type of holographic privacy screen around the bed.

Adria and Sarah sighed in disappointment before they suddenly heard Rebecca say, "Wow, kiddo, you have way more muscle than the average human male. How did your body get so toned if you didn’t exercise?”

“Manual labour for a few different jobs,” John replied.

“Huh?” Rebecca said in surprise. “But your records show you're still in school. Have you been participating in illegal underage work?”

“Yup, needed the money,” John replied.

“For how long?” Rebecca asked in a cold tone that neither Adria nor Sarah had heard her use before.

“Eleven years.”

“ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?” Rebecca screamed just as the door opened again and Empress Alexia walked in, followed by her personal maid and assistant, Maria.

“What’s all this noise about?” Alexia asked with a frown.

Rebecca stalked out through the privacy screen before asking with a cold expression, “Did you know about this, Alexia? Did you know this kid's been working underage? And manual labour of all things.”

“I only just found out about it a few hours ago,” Alexia said with a sigh.

“Underage work is one thing, and honestly I don’t really care about it since kids these days could do with a bit more exercise,” Rebecca stated matter-of-factly before her tone turned angry again as she added. “But manual labour of all things? A child's body is still growing and partaking in such an activity could be catastrophic if an accident were to happen.”

“I’m aware,” Alexia replied. “I’m already putting measures in place to make sure this doesn’t happen again. Every town and city will be investigated in case such things that happened to John are happening elsewhere.”

“It shouldn’t have happened in the first place,” Rebecca retorted before turning on her heel and passing back through the privacy screen.

“Whoa, she's pissed,” Sarah hissed quietly to Adria, who nodded before saying, “I’ve never seen her speak like that to mother.”

“Sorry about that, John. Let's continue, shall we?” Rebecca asked as she returned to the bedside and took some calming breaths. “I just need to attach these pads to your chest and arms and then we can start the scan. Try not to move around too much after it begins."

After speaking, Rebecca attached the pads to John's body before having him lie on the bed, after which she backed away and pressed another button on the wall. A light appeared from the ceiling above the bed, and just like with the access band, it started to move around his body as he lay as still as possible.

As they waited for the scan to complete, Rebecca asked, “So, do you plan to pick the necromancer class when you join Genesis?”

John kept his mouth shut and stared up at her in protest, causing her to laugh before she said, “I said try not to move; I didn’t say you couldn’t talk.”

“Oh,” John said in embarrassment. “I honestly haven’t given it any thought.”

“You should totally play necromancer; it’s the class I play and it’s great,” Rebecca said in excitement. “Not only is it exclusive to the human race, but you can even summon skeletons and other minions to fight for you and do your bidding.

I happen to be a rather influential necromancer if I do say so myself, so I can easily get you into the necromancer guild as well as give you pointers.”

“Here we go,” Adrai sighed. “Seriously, she’s addicted to the necromancer class.”
