Chapter 63 Foundation of Magic [Part 3]
"Light of the goddess, mend what is broken, Healing"
A magic circle appeared in front of her hands, and a green light spread forward before dissipating into the air, and then she opened her eyes.
Aiden stared at her with his eyes widened; he had no idea there were chants to create spells. If there were chants, then it made his job a lot easier.
He had seen Katarina cast spells without needing chants, and the priestesses who tried to heal the prince back in the palace didn’t use chants, so at a point in time, you know the spell so well you don’t need chants.
"You can sit," Aiden said and turned towards Olena, gesturing for her to come closer.
"Why did she use a chant?" Aiden whispered.
Olena leaned closer to Aiden’s ear before speaking, "The chant helps with visualization, Your Holiness. Most beginners have trouble forming the spell properly, so the words help them picture what they want the spell to do; in doing so it gives their mana a direction and makes it easier to control."
Aiden nodded slowly. "So they need the chant at this level?"
Olena chuckled before speaking, "Not forever. Once a priestess becomes familiar with a spell, the chant can be shortened. Eventually, only the name of the spell is needed, and when the spell has been mastered, even that won’t be necessary; the spell can simply be formed with mana"
"Also, you asked me to check their mistakes. Her form is good, but her mana control is lacking, just a little; this way she’ll be unable to learn advanced spells"
Aiden nodded once again, and Olena backed away from him with a smile on her face. She didn’t think to ask why a priest who already knows the basics of magic was asking her this; that thought hadn’t crossed her mind at all. She was happy to help.
’So the chant is basically a training wheel for the spell’
[That’s a good way to describe it, and to anticipate your next question: no, I didn’t know about the chant; it wasn’t in my information]
’How are you sure that is what I was going to ask? But here’s the main question... The goddess sent me here as a priest and gave me the lust system. If I hadn’t gotten the healing system on my own, how would I have survived being a priest? I won’t be able to cast healing magic?’
[The solution to that was already there; the problem happened when you came to this world and got the healing system... Initially,y the lust system wasn’t like that; it was supposed to come with an ability, a really good ability, but with the interference from the healing system, it lost a ton of capabilities]
’Oh, what ability was it supposed to come with?’
[I don’t want to tell; it’ll just make you miss the ability, and besides, there are a lot more of them you’ll gain through leveling up and quests. Also,o the healing system has been in effect for a long time; is it because it was forced]
’Don’t try to change the subject; speak... What the ability?’
[Just know that you’ll never get it back; it’s permanently gone... But the system was supposed to have a copy ability. After sleeping with a woman, you’ll be able to copy one of her spells or abilities, no matter how powerful, regardless of whether you have enough mana to cast it or not; just like how you can cast your healing spells, the knowledge would be put in your brain]
’Wait a minute, a copy ability...’ Aiden placed a hand on his chin and looked forward; that was when he realized he had just been staring downward for a long time.
The priestess who cast the healing spell was now even more nervous and sweating; if Aiden was thinking this much about her demonstration, she already had it in her mind that she had failed to pass his secret test.
’We’ll talk more about this; I should get back to the demonstration’
Aiden finally nodded and looked forward towards the next priestess, gave her a tiny smile, and gestured towards her.
She stood up, and now all eyes were on her. Aiden was also focused; during the last spell, he was more concerned with the chant and not the actual spell process.
Then she stretched her hands forward. "Light of the goddess, shield me from all magic, magic barrier"
Aiden’s eyes narrowed slightly as he watched every part of the process. He could see her holy affinity, but the actual process was a little spotty, so he had to narrow his eyes, and when he did, it suddenly became extremely clear.
Aiden could see the mana pushing out of her hands to form the simple magic barrier that was currently in front of her, but he had missed most of the vital part.
"Good, now do it again, slowly this time," Aiden said.
The priestess looked slightly confused but followed his commands; she recited the chant, and this time Aiden got a good look. He wasn’t interested in the final results; he wanted to see what was happening from when she began till the spell was cast.
He watched the movement of her mana, first from its core, then through her body, passing through her golden light, becoming holy mana, and then pushed out through her hands, forming the barrier spell; all of this happened in seconds.
’So the most important thing is mana control; you simply visualize pushing mana out, then with the chant you can direct your mana and cast the spell, but now my biggest problem would be mana control. I have no idea how to do that yet’
[You know you’re controlling mana right now]
’What are you talking about? I’m not casting a spell; how could I be controlling mana?’
[Can you see mana gathering in her body]
’Yes, around her mana core in her chest, isn’t that it?’
[That’s because you are infusing mana into your eyes]
