Chapter 62 Foundation of Magic [Part 2]
The book continued with another explanation that holy magic was usually easier to control when the user had a calm mind. Anger, fear, and other strong emotions could disrupt the flow of their mana, and because of that, members of the church must be calm and meditate, especially before practice.
Aiden almost laughed when he read this part. The book placed emphasis on praying to the goddess before almost anything; the more Aiden continued, the more the book talked about praying to the goddess.
Aiden glanced through the rest of the book, and the point it was trying to make was already known. The remaining pages focused mostly on the goddess, a little bit of history which Aiden glanced through without paying much attention, and then he was done.
He placed the book back and picked up another, but before he could open the first page, the carriage slowly came to a stop as they had arrived at the Eastern Church.
Aiden couldn’t believe he was so engrossed in the book; he couldn’t tell they had traveled a long way. Olena opened the door, stepping out of the carriage, and since she was on the other side, she quickly ran to the other side before pulling the door open for Aiden.
As the carriage arrived, two priestesses who were inside the church at this time immediately came to the door, and then Aiden stepped out of the carriage.
"Take the books to my room," Aiden instructed, and both of them picked the books out of the carriage and took them to his room.
Aiden stepped inside the church; it was empty apart from those two he had just sent away, and since the healing system was still on, Aiden was going to try something right now.
"Olena, call all the priestesses, every single one of them," Aiden said, and Olena bowed before walking away.
Aiden was going to increase his effectiveness from now on. Since he was meeting Katarina tomorrow at the underground library, this was probably his best chance to get the clone spell books, and he knew forbidden magic like that was going to be difficult to learn, especially for someone who never learned magic.
So right now, he wanted to see the foundation of spellcasting, and with the priestesses, he would have a wide range of basic spells to get down, how they cast and everything in between, and they won’t be able to question him.
Aiden sat on the elevated platform; his legs were not touching the ground anymore, and in front of him were rows of chairs. Then he began to hear footsteps, which only got louder till Olena stepped out of the hallway, and behind her were Ella and then the rest of the priestesses.
Aiden waited until all of them had entered before raising his hands slightly.
"Everyone, take a seat." His voice wasn’t loud, but the entire church had turned quiet, reserved for only footsteps as they all wondered what Aiden wanted.
One after the other, they moved towards the rows of chairs, but before most of them could sit, Aiden spoke again.
"I want you all to sit in order of age, from right to left, the younger priestesses first," Aiden said.
The entire hall seemed to stop in that moment as they all turned to Aiden, but he didn’t repeat or say anything else till they eventually arranged their seating position. Since the chair in front couldn’t contain them, some of them sat in the second row.
Aiden simply wanted to separate them to see their magical abilities from beginners to advanced. Doing this wasn’t going to speed up his learning that much, but he needed to see how others cast spells, and with his system active, he could see each of their holy affinity. If he was going to learn the foundation, these girls were his best source of information.
After the girls all sat down, Aiden’s eyes wandered around, and in his head, he was thinking about the potential of this; all of these girls were alone with him, and he could do anything he wanted if he did things right. All of them were virgins, including Ella, who was the oldest among them, and one more thing stood out: their breasts.
Aiden knew deep in his heart the goddess made it so; if not, why would she select 85% of priestesses who had bigger-than-average boobs? Even in the library, he simply didn’t pay much attention then, but he had something to do currently, so he shook the thought from his head. But something else caught his eye: Miraleth wasn’t among them.
’Maybe she’s out’
"Good. You must be wondering why you’re all gathered here. I’m going to ask each of you to demonstrate some basic spells, and don’t be nervous or worry about anything; I simply want to see how you cast them." Aiden spoke.
The priestesses nodded, though some of them looked slightly confused; some were nervous, as they knew this was definitely a test. The Head Priest was testing their capabilities to see if they were fit for the church.
"Olena," Aiden called as she stood beside him with her head down.
"After each spellcasting, tell me their mistakes and what they can improve," Aiden said, and Olena nodded.
Aiden looked at the first priestess sitting closest to the right. From her face, Aiden could tell she was nervous, since she was the first; all the pressure was on her, and she had no idea what criteria Aiden was judging by.
"Alright you start, and you can cast any spells you’re comfortable and most familiar with," Aiden said as she stood up on her feet.
The priestess swallowed and slowly raised one hand. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath before Aiden noticed a faint movement inside her body, and then the golden light brightness increased, and then she spoke.
"Light of the goddess, mend what is broken, Healing"
A magic circle appeared in front of her hands, and a green light spread forward before dissipating into the air, and then she opened her eyes.
