Chapter 100: First Day At The Academy [2]
Lucien and Sylas walked as Sylas led the way to the classroom.
Unlike yesterday, the surroundings were quiet. They were the only ones on the pathway. In some moments, he would occasionally see students in haste, going somewhere. Their footsteps echoed softly against the stone path.
Lucien’s gaze wandered, taking in the new buildings they had missed yesterday since they had teleported straight to the Principal’s office.
"I’m sure there are some information you would have known by now about the academy," Sylas said, noticing Lucien’s wandering gaze.
Lucien nodded. "The Principal did so. It was a basic knowledge of the academy."
"Really, that’s nice." Sylas smiled.
It looks as if he hasn’t found out the identity of Miss Seraphina. She’s surely keeping it hidden.
Sylas thought, glancing at Lucien.
"Well, I am sure there are some information you might not have known. For example, the dormitory of the academy," Sylas said, which pricked Lucien’s interest.
He noticed that where they were living, surprisingly, there weren’t many buildings that surrounded them, and there was a lack of students.
"For example, your dormitory," Sylas continued, "which I prefer calling a house. It’s unique as for why, I don’t know. But among other students, if you aren’t an Honor Student, you live in the dormitory, shared among four students, and the dormitory is equipped with basic necessities."
Lucien listened carefully, absorbing the information.
"For the Honor Students, they will be given a house equipped with a mini Origin Absorbing Array, which will be shared among two Honor Students. And there are still some exceptions amongst the Honor Students, whose talent and everything eclipses other Honor Students. They are given a better house with two mini Origin Absorbing Arrays, but it’s only owned by them. They don’t share it."
Lucien raised an eyebrow. "So the house we’re staying in... it’s one of those?"
Sylas nodded. "Exactly. The Principal had arranged it for you. It’s not just one of them. You’re living in the highest tier of student housing."
Lucien raised his eyebrows as he absorbed the information. He knew the house was nice, but it seemed he had to check the house very well. Even though he had noticed the arrays, he didn’t place much mind on them.
"But everything is judged on strength," Sylas continued. "The Honor Students, if they are defeated by non-Honor Students, they would lose their Honor Student identity and all benefits that come with it to the students that defeated them."
Sylas looked at Lucien with a special gaze, and Lucien got the message behind it.
He guessed the benefits he got from the academy were unique, which might provoke some students who would challenge him to test his strength. But he was prepared for such things.
Sylas kept explaining something until they got to the classroom building.
The classroom building rose before them, a grand structure of pale marble and dark stone. Tall, arched windows lined its walls, amazing Lucien who could see them shimmering faintly with protective enchantments. Above the entrance, the academy’s crest was prominently displayed, a golden tower rising from an open book, encircled by nine stars. The crest glowed softly, its design precise and elegant, not looking like the work of man, with the nine stars pulsing faintly, each representing one of the elements.
Beneath the crest, ancient script was etched into the stone, as he read the familiar words internally.
"Through Knowledge, Power. Through Power, Transcendence."
The massive wooden doors, reinforced with silver bindings, swung open as they approached. Lucien could feel the rich Originat in the air, thick and alive, humming against his skin.
"Oh yeah, before I forget." Sylas flicked something toward Lucien, who caught it instinctively.
When he saw what it was, he realized it looked like a watch from his past life, sleek, modern, yet carrying an air of ancient craftsmanship.
"That’s called a Rune Watch," Sylas explained. "It’s your form of identity in the academy."
"Nice," Lucien said as he examined the Rune Watch.
The watch had a sleek, silver band that would wrap comfortably around the wrist. A small, golden emblem of the academy was etched at the base of the watch face, a tower rising from an open book, encircled by nine stars. The surface was cool to the touch, polished to a mirror-like shine. When he touched the face, it was smooth and crystalline, glowing faintly with a soft blue light.
Suddenly, silver script appeared on the glass, surprising him. It displayed his name, year, and current points in elegant, glowing letters.
Lucien raised his eyebrows, genuinely astonished. It seemed technology was a bit common here, and he was curious about how the watch was made.
"That’s your information," Sylas continued. "We should have used badges, but students nowadays prefer these. It has many functions, registering points, duel challenges, tracking progress. Just read the guidelines, and you’ll understand what you need to know about it."
Lucien nodded, slipping the Rune Watch onto his wrist. It fit perfectly, the band cool against his skin.
They entered the classroom building, and the massive wooden doors closed behind them with a soft thud, sealing off the outside world.
Lucien found himself in a wide hallway that stretched before them. The walls were made of the same pale marble as the exterior, their surfaces smooth and cool, etched with faint runes that pulsed with a soft, rhythmic glow. They cast a warm, golden light across the corridor, illuminating the path ahead.
The floor was polished obsidian, dark and reflective, with faint silver veins running through it like captured lightning. Lucien could see his own reflection in it as he walked, the navy blue of his uniform stark against the dark stone.
The hallway was quiet and empty, their footsteps the only sound echoing softly against the walls. Occasionally, they passed doors along the walls, each one carved with intricate patterns and runes. Some had small plaques beside them, indicating which classroom or office lay beyond. Sylas led him past several of them, his pace steady and unhurried.
Lucien noticed the air grew richer with Originat as they walked deeper into the building. It hummed softly against his skin, settling into his pores like a gentle warmth. The runes on the walls seemed to pulse in response, their glow brightening slightly.
"Your classroom is at the end of this hallway," Sylas said, gesturing ahead. "It’s a bit further in, but you’ll get used to the layout soon enough."
Lucien nodded, his gaze sweeping across the corridor. The hallway was wide and spacious, with tall, arched ceilings that gave it an open, airy feel. Floating crystal orbs hovered near the ceiling, casting a soft, golden glow that bathed everything in warm light.
He could see the faint outlines of runes embedded in the walls, their patterns shifting and flowing like living water.
"We’re already there," Sylas said.
Sylas stopped in front of a tall, arched door. It was carved from dark wood, its surface etched with intricate runes that pulsed with a soft, golden glow. A small plaque beside it read: "Year 1 Honor Students."
Sylas turned to Lucien, a faint smile on his face. "This is it. Your class."
Lucien nodded, his heart steady. He had been waiting for this moment, the start of his journey at Aethel Academy.
Sylas pushed open the door, and the classroom opened before them.
