Chapter 289: Frank D’Amico
On the twenty-sixth floor, as soon as Jane and Perkins heard Hunter's voice in their earpieces, they immediately sprang into action.
"Let's split it half and half."
"See who finishes first."
Perkins could not hold back.
She and Jane were in the same assassin company, and Jane had always ranked above her, which had long made Perkins unhappy.
Jane glanced at her.
With Hunter no longer around, she no longer needed to pretend to be some elegant, noble lady.
"Sure."
Jane agreed at once.
She had lost to Hunter several times before.
Later, after their physical exchanges, she had experienced what it was like to be held for hours at a time and had also realized just how monstrous Hunter's strength and stamina were.
Now, Jane had completely given up on trying to compete with him.
But being convinced by Hunter did not mean she would yield to Perkins too.
Jane had already managed to keep Perkins down inside the assassin company.
There was no way she thought she would lose to her now.
Holding the short submachine gun, Jane took the lead and pushed open the emergency stairwell door, entering the twenty-sixth floor.
The stairwell exit was on the left side of the corridor, which meant the right side had a larger search area.
Jane only took a quick look before decisively choosing the right side.
Perkins came out behind her, and when she saw Jane's choice, she snorted coldly.
But she did not fight her for the right side.
The mission mattered more, and Perkins understood that much.
After all, this was a five-star hotel, and from the twenty-fifth floor up it was all Frank D'Amico's residence and the quarters of his men.
The soundproofing was excellent.
Aside from some faint gunfire through the earpieces, Jane and Perkins could barely hear anything from below.
That was actually good news.
Better soundproofing also meant it would take longer for them to be exposed.
After taking only a few more steps, Perkins spotted a white man with a shotgun standing near the stairwell entrance on the twenty-sixth floor, staring intently at the elevator.
Apparently hearing footsteps, he tried to turn around.
The result was that he saw Perkins already raising her gun.
"Good evening!"
Her sexy voice rang out.
The next second, under the man's panicked gaze, she quickly pulled the trigger.
Rat-tat-tat...
Several bullets tore through the man's chest.
Boom.
The burly man crashed to the floor and went still.
Perkins checked the stairwell again, then heard gunfire start from the other side.
Her expression tightened, and she began searching the rooms one by one.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Jane raised her dual guns and fired rapidly.
Several of Frank D'Amico's men, who were drinking in the twenty-sixth-floor bar, fell into pools of blood.
She swept her cold gaze over them, confirmed they were all dead, then looked at the conference room beside her and kicked the door open.
Bang.
The room was empty.
Jane stepped back out, and just as she was about to check the next room, she heard an explosion from below.
Boom.
Her expression changed slightly, then quickly returned to normal.
During the task allocation, Hunter had already told them that the twenty-fifth floor below was normally packed with Frank D'Amico's men.
That floor was the hard bone, harder to chew than the three floors above it.
So Hunter using a grenade was nothing surprising.
Still, Jane realized that once grenades were used, they had even less time left.
She immediately sped up, kicked open the next room door, and rushed inside to search it.
On the twenty-eighth floor of the Paris Hotel, not long after the explosion sounded, Frank D'Amico was abruptly awakened by a phone call.
"Boss, we have intruders."
"Fighting has broken out on the twenty-fifth floor, and someone used a grenade."
Frank D'Amico, who had been only half awake moments ago, snapped fully alert.
A cold, murderous look spread across his face.
"Have Brute bring people up immediately. Tell Lewis to hold the elevator and the stairwells. Do not let them get up here."
Frank D'Amico was angry, but he also knew this was not the time to ask how anyone had broken through his layers of defense and reached the twenty-fifth floor.
If grenades were already involved, he immediately thought of the two so-called superheroes who had been targeting him for months: Big Daddy and Hit-Girl.
But those two were too slippery.
Frank D'Amico had never managed to catch them.
Recently, though, another guy calling himself Kick-Ass had appeared, wearing a costume and pretending to be a superhero while attacking some of D'Amico's strongholds.
As one of the most powerful drug lords not only in New York but in all the United States, Frank D'Amico was furious that anyone would dare provoke him.
He had long wanted to wipe out those costumed so-called superheroes.
Now, hearing that someone had attacked the Paris Hotel and already made it to the twenty-fifth floor, it was obvious they were coming for him.
Beyond his anger, Frank D'Amico even felt a bit excited.
"Good, good. Since you are all so eager to die, I'll send you on your way today."
After hanging up, Frank D'Amico immediately got out of bed.
On the large, soft luxury bed, a blonde beauty also woke up.
"Darling, what is wrong?"
Frank D'Amico glanced at the beautiful blonde woman still not fully awake.
She was a model recently delivered to him by his men.
She looked good and had a great body.
Because the novelty had not worn off yet, Frank D'Amico had been quite fond of her lately.
"I have some work to handle. Go back to sleep."
"Oh."
The blonde beauty did not know Frank D'Amico also had another identity as a drug lord.
She only knew he had already whitewashed part of his assets and was the owner of this five-star hotel.
So she was not worried and simply turned over and went back to sleep.
Frank D'Amico quickly put on his robe and went out.
Several men who had also been awakened hurried over.
"Guard the stairwell and the elevator. Also protect Chris."
Frank quickly got dressed, took two handguns from the wall cabinet and strapped them on, then picked up a shotgun and began loading shells.
Chris was Frank's son.
Though not very promising, because his mother had once been only one of Frank's mistresses, she had nevertheless thrown herself in front of a bullet to save him during a dangerous moment.
From that day on, Frank had treated his only son as the future heir to his business.
However, because Chris had only recently come of age, Frank had merely started him on physical training and had begun letting him help manage some of his legitimate businesses.
He had not yet truly brought Chris into his drug manufacturing and trafficking operations.
The men knew their boss's personality well, so they left only two people to protect him.
The rest hurried to guard the stairwell and elevator, while also protecting Chris.
They did not know that three death gods were about to charge up.
