Chapter 290: A Small Haul, The Three Reunite
A few minutes later.
"I won!"
On the twenty-sixth floor, Perkins had reunited with Jane.
After helping Jane take out the last few enemies with gunfire, Perkins did not care that there had been fewer targets on her side.
She still shamelessly claimed victory.
After all, she had rarely beaten Jane once.
Jane rolled her eyes at her, but said nothing.
There were not many people guarding this floor, only a dozen or so, and most of them were in the restaurant and bar area.
There were also a few service staff and cleaners, but the two women had been worried they might be in danger too.
As professional assassins, Perkins and Jane showed no mercy and took them all out.
Perkins quickly removed several magazines from her tactical belt.
Jane reloaded the short submachine gun and both of her handguns.
She had just used a flashbang, and now she did not look very energetic either.
"Hunter, the twenty-sixth floor is clear."
Seeing that Jane was ignoring her, Perkins spoke into the earpiece.
On the other end, amid the dense gunfire, Hunter's voice soon came back.
"You two go to the twenty-seventh floor first. I'm almost done here too."
Hearing how light and steady his voice sounded, the two women figured Hunter was probably not injured.
They already knew he was monstrously strong, but they still breathed a little easier.
"Got it!"
After confirming that there were no survivors on the twenty-sixth floor, the two women quickly headed out through the emergency stairwell.
They also knew that with the noise they had made, the two floors above them were definitely awake by now.
So the two of them climbed cautiously up the stairs, keeping watch.
"How about each of us takes one floor?"
Perkins suggested again.
Jane did not answer her. She quietly reached the entrance to the stairwell leading to the twenty-seventh floor.
She leaned in to listen and immediately signaled to Perkins.
"Someone is there."
Perkins understood, pointed to the door, then to Jane, then to the side.
After Jane stepped back a few paces, Perkins, who did not know any lockpicking, quickly raised an Uzi and aimed at the lock.
Rat-tat-tat!
After half a magazine, the recessed lock was riddled with holes.
Jane immediately raised her foot and kicked.
The emergency stairwell door opened a little.
Perkins had already bitten off the pin of a grenade and tossed it through the crack.
Jane quickly retreated to the side and crouched down, and Perkins did the same, lowering herself and covering her head.
Boom!
After the explosion, the two women sprang up again.
They did not even bother brushing the dust off themselves.
The two of them rushed out through the blown-open door and immediately stood back to back, each watching the other side.
There were only two broken corpses in the hallway.
Bang!
A shotgun blast flew toward them.
Perkins felt a jolt in her chest and some dampness on her arm.
She knew she had been hit, but it was only buckshot, and the rounds had not penetrated the body armor she was wearing.
Still, after being injured in Las Vegas a few days earlier and having to spend days stuck in a safehouse and hotel, Perkins immediately flew into a rage.
"Die!"
She emptied a magazine and a half from her dual Uzis in a wild burst of fire.
Jane was not worried about her, and only said, "Same old rules. You take the left, I take the right."
The drug lord's man who had shot Perkins was by the elevators.
Perkins snorted, tossed aside the submachine guns in her hands, switched to two handguns, and rushed toward him.
Very quickly, after several gunshots, Jane and Perkins reunited once again.
There were only four bodyguards and two cleaners on the twenty-seventh floor.
So they finished the fight very quickly.
Meanwhile, on the twenty-fifth floor, Hunter stowed the MP5 submachine gun with most of one drum magazine emptied into his private space.
Then he took out another MP5 loaded with fresh ammunition.
Looking at the corpses strewn all over the floor, even Hunter, whose moral sense had already dulled quite a bit since crossing over, felt a little uneasy.
"Tonight, I'm afraid the number of souls on my hands is going to go up by another fifty or so."
The twenty-fifth floor alone had more than forty people.
Add in a few cleaners, and it was probably close to fifty.
The drug lord Frank really was cautious with his life, assigning so many men to protect himself.
But that was his bad luck.
After quickly taking out the resistance, Hunter finally had time to turn back.
Earlier, while clearing the twenty-fifth floor, he had found several rooms stocked with weapons and ammunition.
Now that he was under the Continental's wing, he could buy all kinds of military weapons and special forces gear that were not even sold on the market.
But if something could be taken for free, who would refuse?
He spent a little more than a minute making another sweep through the rooms.
Very soon, he had added more than a hundred weapons of various types to his private space, most of them shotguns and submachine guns, with only a few handguns and rifles mixed in, plus dozens of crates of ammunition.
Without at least several million dollars, you would not be able to get this kind of stock.
After collecting everything, he quickly said into the earpiece, "The twenty-fifth floor is clear. I'm coming to meet you."
"The twenty-seventh is clear too. Go straight to the twenty-eighth."
"Alright."
After hearing Perkins's report, Hunter did not delay.
He quickly reached the stairwell, then suddenly stopped.
Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed that the elevator that served up to the twenty-fifth floor was moving.
Hunter immediately understood that people from below were coming up.
He quickly pulled a flashbang from his waist, moved closer, and saw the numbers on the elevator rising to the twenty-third floor.
He pulled the pin.
At the same time, he threw it toward the elevator doors.
Covering his ears and moving back a little, he watched as the elevator finally stopped at the twenty-fifth floor.
The doors opened.
The flashbang exploded, and screams erupted from inside the elevator immediately.
Hunter forced down the discomfort, raised his MP5 again, and while walking forward, sprayed the elevator with bullets.
"Ah!"
Amid the screams, Hunter quickly took out the eight fully armed drug lord men inside the elevator.
Then he took out another jammer from his private space and attached it to the elevator's control panel.
After that, he quickly turned back and began climbing toward the twenty-eighth floor through the stairwell.
"I heard gunfire and an explosion. What happened?"
Jane's voice soon came through the earpiece.
While climbing, Hunter answered, "Frank's men took another elevator up to the twenty-fifth. I've already dealt with them."
As he spoke, he had already reached the entrance to the twenty-eighth floor.
Jane and Perkins were already standing there.
When they saw him arrive, the two women only nodded.
Before Hunter could unlock it, Perkins had already tossed away both Uzi submachine guns.
Picking up a shotgun, she said directly, "I'll open it."
As she spoke, she fired at the lock on the emergency door.
Bang!
With one shot, she destroyed the lock and the surrounding area.
Hunter kicked with all his strength.
Half the emergency door flew open, smashing into a drug lord guard who had been hiding behind it and sending him flying.
Hunter then pulled another flashbang from his waist and gave Jane and Perkins a look.
He pulled the pin, counted a few seconds, and then threw it toward the direction of another breathing sound he had heard.
Boom!
A few seconds later, after the explosion.
Hunter charged in first and fired rapidly.
After quickly taking out the two nearby guards, he rushed toward the elevators.
