Chapter 93: Midnight Specters
"I’ll leave this trash to you then." Ray calmly said once Belva shackled the student with her tool.
"I’ll try my best to extract information from him." Belva narrowed her eyes. She was also curious as to who was daring to make a move against the Crestellan Academy.
Of course, it also gave her a very good pretext to unleash her frustration that had been cooped up for so long.
The reason why she didn’t kill the student right away was not simply because of extracting information. It was because she wanted to toy with them.
These students were no different than toddlers in her eyes.
The real danger was definitely up ahead, and Belva was confident that Ray wouldn’t risk his life if he wasn’t certain of victory.
From start to finish, Ray barely revealed any battle experience. But he sure as heck knew how to conserve his stamina and ruin his opponent’s mentality.
Not to mention, his extreme accuracy in slicing the student’s vocal cord was something else.
While Belva was impressed by Ray’s ability, the latter had already followed closely behind Lancelot.
’The Precision passive skill devoured from Broke Sam was really worth it.’ Ray never anticipated that the precision literally meant every aiming aspect.
If he were still in the old world and became a professional soccer or football player, he would have been the best shooter—one that was coveted by many teams who would throw millions for his shooting skill.
Alas, that was just his pipe dream thinking.
Sometime later, the two arrived at the room.
And sure enough, a mysterious cloaked person was standing dangerously close to the portal.
"I told those two to stall, but I suppose wastes are ultimately a waste." They calmly said.
"Yeah, they’re a waste, but you’re the dumpster that accepts waste. Doesn’t make you any better." Ray snickered and inspected his surroundings. His passive ability, Perception, was coming in handy.
’No traps were laid out. How confident is this bastard?’ He furrowed his brows and wondered what their origin was.
He didn’t charge ahead immediately because he was certain that the enemy wasn’t some small fry.
A few seconds later, Ray confirmed the scene was clean from booby traps.
Without hesitation, he instructed Lancelot telepathically to strike at the enemy.
Lancelot received the instruction, held his long black sword, and blinked away from his position.
In the next instant, he appeared on the right side of the enemy. His hand was already in motion to deal a heavy swing at the enemy.
CLANG!
Unfortunately, a direct hit was impossible when the enemy already had a barrier up.
"Using an undead without emitting any foul stench. You’re really an interesting person." The mysterious cloaked person mused and commented as if they were an instructor or professor.
"I wouldn’t have the leisure to comment if I were you." Ray snickered coldly.
"Hmm?"
Sure enough, the barrier might have blocked Lancelot’s attack, but that didn’t mean it was done.
In the blink of an eye, Lancelot’s long black sword suddenly glowed in a blinding light.
With the coating, Lancelot’s eyes glowed crimson red as he threatened to tear apart the barrier made by the mysterious person.
"Hoh, that’s pretty dangerous." The mysterious person finally reacted and shifted his position right as his barrier was torn apart by the violent slash.
But contrary to being scared by the scene, they were more intrigued than ever.
"I never anticipated an undead to be capable of using skills that required mana. How fascinating that is."
While they were busy being fascinated, Ray had already teleported close behind him and used Rend as well on the dagger picked from the ground.
SLASH!
The hit landed, but Ray wasn’t happy with the result.
After all, the figure blurred and glitched away, almost as if they were never there.
"A clone, huh." Ray clicked his tongue. He finally understood why there was no booby trap or fierce fight whatsoever.
The person had already accomplished their task and merely substituted themselves with a clone to greet him.
It was honestly a clever move, to say the least.
By leaving a clone behind, they would be able to identify who was attempting to interfere with their plan, as well as taunting them for being late.
However, that was only a smart move if it was used against the protagonist or those without knowledge of who they were.
’The Midnight Specters... to think this evil organization was already on the move this early.’ Ray reckoned this wasn’t mentioned in the first Chapter because the news was possibly suppressed by the professors and those in charge of the underground scene.
The Lord of Magic novel was based on the protagonist’s perspective.
All the protagonist knew was that the underground portal examination was postponed and swapped to a practical examination in another field.
And this happened around Chapter two, which meant that Ray was now unveiling things that had been omitted in the novel.
"Raymond Carrion, I’ll remember this name. Although it was a pity that our greeting couldn’t last longer, I suppose a portal outbreak is a decent greeting gift, right?" Right before the clone dissipated, they managed to leave a taunt behind.
Ray couldn’t even rebuke because they were completely gone after they had finished their statement.
"Tsk, he got the last laugh." He clicked his tongue before suddenly flashing a malicious grin.
’Or so he thought. I bet he doesn’t even know he exposed his dumb self with this clone. What a buffoon to taunt the enemy when victory wasn’t even achieved yet. Dumb bozo doesn’t know the rules to only taunt when you have already won.’ He sneered inwardly.
Nevertheless, Ray would have to put the Midnight Specters topic aside for now.
The portal, which should have been dormant and gathered more mana, was about to go berserk.
An outbreak was almost a guarantee at this point.
"But wait a second, the portal outbreak doesn’t have much relationship with the key. And if they’re this powerful to silence the guards without any alarm sounding, what was the key actually used for?" He narrowed his eyes and felt there was still a missing piece.
A very crucial puzzle piece...
