Chapter 504: Being Watched (Part 2)
"Shuxin, what’s wrong?"
Seeing Gu Shuxin fall silent after she had finished, Cao Yuqing asked, "Don’t tell me you know them?"
"Of course not."
Gu Shuxin smiled and shook her head. "I just feel that college life... it’s not quite what I imagined."
"Tell me about it! I never imagined I’d get stuck in a dorm with country bumpkins like them! It’s driving me crazy. I really don’t want to be in the same room as them!"
Cao Yuqing’s face was filled with disgust. She truly despised the people in her dorm. Yet as she said this, it never once occurred to her that with an attitude like hers, she could hardly expect her roommates to like her in return.
"You two chat. I have something I need to take care of, so I’m heading out."
With that, Gu Shuxin stood up. She nodded at Jiang Jiajia and Cao Yuqing, then left the dorm room.
"Okay."
Jiang Jiajia and Cao Yuqing watched Gu Shuxin leave the dorm. Only after she was some distance away did they turn to look at each other.
"Jiajia, what’s the deal with your roommate?"
Cao Yuqing had been dying to ask while Gu Shuxin was present but hadn’t felt comfortable doing so. Now that she was gone, she no longer held back.
Jiang Jiajia smiled at Cao Yuqing.
"Oh, this roommate of mine? Her background is a pretty big deal."
"Huh? You don’t mean she’s the daughter of some major family? Her last name is Gu... could it be the Gu family? But I’ve never heard of the Gu family having a daughter."
Cao Yuqing didn’t say the rest out loud. In all of B City, the Gu family was incredibly famous.
However, not everyone knew about the incident that had befallen the Gu family years ago. Aside from the top elite families, to everyone else, the Gu family was simply a powerful but extremely low-key family.
So low-key, in fact, that someone like Cao Yuqing only knew the Gu family existed; she knew next to nothing about their specific circumstances.
"I’m not too clear on the specifics, but I’m sure she has deep ties to the Gu family. So... you get the picture."
Jiang Jiajia left the rest unsaid. She knew Cao Yuqing well enough to be sure that this information would lead her to the exact same conclusion.
For them, forming a connection with the Gu family was a golden opportunity, something they could only dream of. Therefore, getting on good terms with Gu Shuxin was a goal they were both determined to achieve.
"I get it."
The two exchanged a glance, and in that shared look, they reached a crystal-clear understanding of what the other was thinking.
Had Gu Shuxin overheard their conversation, she would have been very pleased.
This was, after all, the exact result she had plotted for.
Very few people knew the truth about her relationship with the Gu family. And even those who did wouldn’t be bored enough to show up at the university and ruin her plans.
Besides, she was only borrowing the Gu family’s name. She never even claimed to have deep ties with them; she merely hinted at it, letting others come to that conclusion and say it themselves.
She herself hadn’t said a word about it.
’That way, even if the Gu family finds out and decides to hold her accountable, she’ll have plausible deniability. After all, she wasn’t the one who said those things. She can’t control what other people guess!’
’Of course, their wild speculation only brings her benefits. And why would Gu Shuxin go to so much trouble for something that doesn’t benefit her?’
