Chapter 366: He Won’t Like Anyone Who Doesn’t Like Shen Nian
Although Fanfan had been saying he didn’t want to go home, he didn’t dare protest now that his older brother was here.
After letting Gu Hengzhi take his hand, Fanfan waved at Shen Nian.
"Goodbye! My name is Gu Zifan. You have to remember it!"
"Okay, I’ll remember. Goodbye, Fanfan!"
Shen Nian smiled and waved at Gu Zifan. After watching Gu Hengzhi lead the boy away, she turned to head back to the Chu Family.
However, Shen Nian had just turned around when she saw Lu Cheng not far away, hurrying toward her with a worried look on his face.
Shen Nian quickened her pace and walked up to Lu Cheng.
"Why did you come over?"
"You weren’t back yet, so I got a little worried."
Lu Cheng said, looking at Shen Nian. Then, his gaze shifted to Gu Hengzhi and Gu Zifan, who were already distant figures.
Before coming over, he thought he’d seen Shen Nian talking with them. But he had been too far away at the time, and they had turned to leave just a moment after he arrived.
Shen Nian followed Lu Cheng’s gaze and realized he had seen Gu Hengzhi and Gu Zifan.
"I’ve met that little boy before at the supermarket. I didn’t expect to run into him here, so we chatted for a bit. The other person was his older brother, who came looking for him. They... I think they’re from the Gu Family."
Shen Nian didn’t hide anything from Lu Cheng; she didn’t feel there was any need to. ’Besides, they’re from the Gu Family,’ she thought. ’Lu Cheng might be interested.’
Sure enough, upon hearing Shen Nian say they were from the Gu Family, Lu Cheng’s brow furrowed as he stared at their distant, retreating figures.
’Chu Zhengwei had mentioned that if they ever ran into Gu Hengzhi of the Gu family, they should try to get on his good side. I can’t believe Shen Nian met someone from the Gu Family so soon.’
’He’s from the Gu Family, and he looked about my age... That must be Gu Hengzhi of the Gu family.’
However, Lu Cheng only thought these things to himself and didn’t voice them to Shen Nian. He quickly retracted his gaze. ’If that really was Gu Hengzhi, we’ll probably be meeting soon enough anyway.’
"Well, as long as you’re all right. What about Chu Lingxiu? You two came out together, so where is she?"
Lu Cheng remembered the hostility he’d sensed from Chu Lingxiu toward Shen Nian before. So, even though she was from the Chu Family, he already had a poor opinion of her.
’He disliked anyone who disliked Shen Nian!’
’Especially since Chu Lingxiu had supposedly been showing Shen Nian around, yet he came out to find Shen Nian all by herself. Something was obviously wrong here.’
A flicker of awkwardness crossed Shen Nian’s face. ’How should I explain this?’ she wondered. ’Should I tell him that Chu Lingxiu pushed me and ran off, and that I have no idea where she went?’
’But if I say that, Lu Cheng will be furious!’
’After all, the last few times she’d nearly gotten hurt, Lu Cheng had blamed himself for ages. This time, even though she wasn’t injured, she *had* been pushed to the ground!’
While Shen Nian was still trying to decide how to answer, Lu Cheng sensed from her silence that something was amiss.
His expression changed instantly when his gaze landed on the dust clinging to the hem of Shen Nian’s clothes.
"What happened?"
’He was certain her clothes were clean when they left the house. And that kind of dust could only have come from the ground. His Shen Nian wouldn’t be rolling around on the ground, would she?’
’So, something must have happened that he didn’t know about!’
