Chapter 365: Sister Is a Good Person, Don’t Give Her a Hard Time
Shen Nian’s heart ached for Fanfan. ’How could his mother possibly hate such an adorable boy!’
And what was that about him looking for a "sister"?
"Fanfan..."
Shen Nian was about to ask when she suddenly heard a voice calling Fanfan’s name from nearby.
"Fanfan, why did you run off here all by yourself?"
Shen Nian followed the sound of the voice and saw a tall, young man walking toward them, his gaze fixed on Fanfan beside her.
When Fanfan heard the voice, he turned around with Shen Nian. Upon seeing the newcomer, the sad look on Fanfan’s face vanished. He looked up obediently at the young man who had now reached them and spoke.
"Brother."
It dawned on Shen Nian. ’So, this is Fanfan’s older brother.’ Although she was curious about what Fanfan had said, now that his family had arrived, her job here was done.
Besides, judging by the way the young man looked at Fanfan and how obediently Fanfan behaved in his presence, the two brothers seemed to have a good relationship.
Her earlier thoughts—sparked by Fanfan’s words—about him being a poor, mistreated child were, for the moment, dismissed.
After watching Fanfan for a long moment, the young man turned his gaze to Shen Nian, his eyes carrying a hint of scrutiny.
He had come out a little after Fanfan. When he found him, he saw him talking with a young woman.
Since he hadn’t heard their conversation and she was a complete stranger—not anyone’s daughter from the neighborhood, he presumed—he was more than a little wary of her intentions.
After all, Fanfan’s position in their family was important. They couldn’t afford for anything to happen to him.
Fanfan was a little afraid of his older brother and always on his best behavior around him. However, when he saw the unfriendly way his brother was looking at Shen Nian, Fanfan mustered his courage.
"Brother, Sister is a good person! Don’t give her a hard time!"
Fanfan’s words made the young man turn to look at him again, seemingly surprised that his little brother cared so much about this woman.
"It’s true! Everything I said is true! Sister helped me last time, too!"
Fanfan spoke again, as if afraid his brother wouldn’t believe him. However, under his brother’s stern gaze, Fanfan’s voice gradually grew softer.
After a long moment, Fanfan’s brother finally tore his gaze away from Fanfan and looked at Shen Nian again.
"Gu Hengzhi. Thank you for looking after my brother, miss."
"You’re welcome. It was really nothing."
’Gu Hengzhi, so that must be his name. His surname is Gu, and he appeared here... could he be from *the* Gu family?’
Through her connection with the Chu Family, Shen Nian had learned a fair bit from Lu Cheng, so she had heard of the Gu family’s existence.
She knew Fanfan came from an impressive background, but the Gu family still came as a bit of a surprise.
"In any case, you’ve helped Fanfan, and for that, our family owes you a great debt. If you ever need anything in the future, you can come to me. We have things to take care of at home, so I’ll take Fanfan back now. Goodbye."
"Okay, goodbye!"
Shen Nian didn’t pay much mind to Gu Hengzhi’s offer to repay the favor. She had helped Fanfan because she felt a connection with him, not for the sake of his family’s gratitude.
And since he was Fanfan’s older brother taking him away, Shen Nian naturally had no reason to refuse.
Besides, she had been out for quite a while and really should be heading back. Otherwise, Lu Cheng would probably start to worry if he couldn’t find her.
