Marvel: Sign-In System – Starting with the Glint-Glint Fruit

Chapter 217: Wanda, Chaos Magic, and Chthon, God of the Netherworld

The twins crouched in front of the tombstone and spoke for a very, very long time. They had done this before as well, but back then, their words had carried more confusion and despair.

Now, however, there was hope.

In the end, the siblings could not help feeling regret. Such a beautiful scene—this new future—they wished their father and mother could have seen it too.

"We will make things better, Dad, Mom," Wanda said firmly at last.

After saying their goodbyes, the siblings left and headed to what was now the Terra government's City Hall.

Because different powers lay hidden within their bodies, they were no longer the same as ordinary citizens.

The twins would walk an entirely different path.

Once, they had wished for Sokovia to be free of war and return to peace. That wish had already come true. Now, the two of them would fulfill their final wish.

Revenge.

And then, the twins were promptly thrown into a laboratory. It nearly gave them PTSD. Again?

Fortunately, the twins later learned that this was only to conduct physical and genetic examinations on them.

After two days of testing and waiting, the twins were confirmed to be mutants.

Their abilities were in a highly unstable, semi-activated state.

Pietro's mutant ability was high-speed movement and reaction, a power with extremely strong potential.

Wanda's mutant ability, however, unexpectedly could not be detected. There were indeed mutant genes deep within her genetic foundation, but her specific mutant power could not be determined. Instead, her underlying genetic chain highly overlapped with that of another mutant—Domino.

It seemed to involve probability manipulation, such as causing bullets to deflect or accidents to happen by "coincidence."

Combined with Wanda's own account of how, when she was ten, a Stark Industries missile had landed in front of her but failed to explode and became a dud, it matched quite well.

Aside from that, when affected by emotion, she seemed able to erupt with a special kind of energy. The nature of this energy was extremely unusual—a very pure form of power.

But it could not be deeply tested or analyzed.

In the end, it was Matthew who halted further testing after learning of the situation.

Matthew was well aware of the truth. Wanda was a mutant, but her mutant ability was probability manipulation. Her Chaos Magic came from Chthon.

Chthon was one of the earliest life-forms on Earth, and he was also a typical demon.

Billions of years ago, the natural life force of Earth's biosphere gave birth to a group of Elder Gods. Later, they began slaughtering and devouring one another, and some of them even transformed into demons. Chthon was one of them.

To end this fate, the Earth goddess Gaea and the god of life gave birth to Atum.

Atum continuously destroyed those corrupted Elder Gods, but later darkened and became an incredibly powerful God-Eater. Even Chthon and Set working together could not resist him.

In the end, to avoid being devoured by the God-Eater, Chthon was forced to flee into another dimension.

After his exile, Chthon continued to wait for an opportunity to return to Earth.

He wrote the Darkhold, an evil book with a will of its own. Its core purpose was to fulfill the prophecy and allow Chthon to return to Earth.

Chthon stood in opposition to the Vishanti, the trinity of white magic gods. He was the god of black magic and chaos.

Beyond space was a space beyond space. Beyond time was a time beyond time. There, a great shadow dwelled—formless and nameless.

But the human mind could not contain the formless, and feared letting the nameless remain nameless. And so it projected a shape for that great shadow, gave the nameless thing a name, and called it Chthon.

An ancient and immensely powerful god.

According to the original timeline, however, this mighty god would end up stumbling because of Wanda.

The Chaos Magic Wanda possessed was innate, but at the same time, it had also been chosen.

Chthon hoped that one day he could use Chaos Magic to corrupt and occupy Wanda's body, then descend upon Earth through her.

Well—apparently everyone wanted to descend upon Earth.

It could be said that Chthon represented chaos and darkness, while the Vishanti represented order and white magic. As equal existences, they were gods on the multiversal level.

Terrifyingly powerful.

Compared to the current Matthew, they were existences he still had to look up to.

But to say Matthew feared them was impossible.

Like many other powerful gods, Chthon could not simply descend upon Earth whenever he wished. He had to wait for the right opportunity and use Wanda's body as a vessel.

That was a matter for later.

No matter what, it had now been confirmed that Wanda and Pietro were mutants.

That meant the next step was blood and genetic matching, followed by serum enhancement tailored specifically for the two of them.

The result was very successful.

The twins were sent off to the Siberian Plain base for training.

As for the future, Quicksilver was easier to arrange. Wanda, however, was special. She was not very suited to the three warbands.

Perhaps she would remain independent from them.

After all, when it came to learning magic alone, she was an absolute darling of heaven—someone even Doctor Strange could not compare to. Even Needy, placed beside her, would be nothing more than a little brother among little brothers.

Once Wanda came into contact with magic studies, Matthew was certain her rate of progress might be even more exaggerated than his own.

He could fully imagine just how absurd an enhanced version of Wanda would become in the future.

So what he needed to do was guide her.

As for Chthon? Still planning to use Wanda as a vessel? It was far more likely that he would end up having his power drained dry by Wanda instead.

…

New Jersey, Camp Lehigh.

Amid the wind and snow, several uninvited guests arrived at this long-abandoned military camp deep in the suburban mountains.

The chain on the iron mesh gate had been pried open.

Several figures in down jackets with fur-lined hoods braved the snow and entered.

They were none other than Phil Coulson, one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s high-ranking agents, Hawkeye Clint Barton, and a mature yet cold-looking Asian woman.

All three wore black earpieces.

"Is it right here?"

The Asian woman stood before a building inside the camp, looking at the tightly shut iron door in front of her. She frowned and turned toward Coulson.

"Yeah. During World War II, this was the training camp for the first Super Soldier Program. Steve Rogers trained here, passed the review and selection, and became the candidate chosen for the injection program."

Coulson's expression carried a hint of excitement. After all, Steve Rogers was his most revered idol, and he knew a vast amount of information regarding Rogers inside out.

"Heh. A training camp built to fight HYDRA back then has now become one of HYDRA's hidden bases. How ironic." Hawkeye Clint let out a cold laugh.

Back when he joined S.H.I.E.L.D., he quickly established himself and became one of its ace agents, carrying out mission after mission. Yet he had never imagined that HYDRA had been hiding inside S.H.I.E.L.D. all along, parasitizing it from within.

If he had not conducted a series of follow-up investigations with Coulson and learned the truth after interrogating someone on the inside, he would still be in the dark even now.

"It is ironic, but we need to find a way inside first," the Asian woman agreed. "We don't have much time."

"Okay."

Seeing that the two did not seem particularly interested in his idol, Coulson shrugged with a touch of regret; he had wanted to talk a bit more about it.

However, just as the three prepared to open the iron door, their expressions suddenly changed dramatically. They had caught the sound of a large number of heavy footsteps approaching.
