Marvel: Sign-In System – Starting with the Glint-Glint Fruit

Chapter 218: Have You Forgotten Peggy Carter? [BONUS CHAPTER]

As top-level agents, Coulson, Hawkeye, and the Asian female agent all sensed the danger immediately.

Their position was extremely exposed.

In front of them stood a huge military camp building, while the area behind and around them was wide open, with almost no cover at all. Even worse, all three of them could tell those footsteps were very close.

They drew their weapons and instantly locked onto a corner of the military building not far away. Just as they were about to move and rush over, a large group of fully armed soldiers appeared.

They even emerged from the very corner the three had been aiming for.

They formed a semicircle and surrounded the three, with the wall of the camp building at their backs.

Great. There was nowhere left to run.

"Fuck, Coulson. Didn't you say there hadn't been any signs of activity here for a long time?" the Asian woman cursed under her breath, gun raised.

"According to my investigation, no one has been here for at least ten years, May," Coulson said innocently.

"Okay. Then we're screwed."

Hawkeye Clint held his specially made compound bow, a quiver on his back. But in this kind of encirclement, with no cover to block the line of fire, even someone as strong as him had no way to resist.

Those gun barrels were all aimed at him. As long as he made the slightest move, what awaited him would be a dense storm of bullets.

After he died, his body would probably weigh more than a dozen pounds heavier from all the lead.

But then, he saw a familiar face.

"Rumlow?"

"Hey, Hawkeye kid. Surprised?"

The leader was Rumlow, the captain of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s internal field combat team, codenamed Crossbones.

The two of them were purely colleagues. They had cooperated on many missions before, but they were not close.

"Yeah. Merry Christmas," Clint replied irritably when he saw the teasing expression on Rumlow's face.

"So this was a trap?" Coulson asked calmly.

"Of course. Otherwise, why do you think you could so easily find this place from one of our people?" Rumlow's tone was almost cheerful, and he even patiently explained it to the three of them.

"You really are elite agents. We couldn't capture your communications or movements."

"But we know exactly who inside belongs to us. So for each of you, we only needed to pay attention, screen, and test you one by one."

"What I didn't expect, though, was that you would actually bring in the legendary agent—the Cavalry, May."

After saying that, Rumlow looked at May with some confusion.

"If I remember correctly, not long ago, after that operation to capture the superpowered girl went out of control, you voluntarily stepped back into an administrative role and decided not to touch field missions again. How did they manage to heal your emotional trauma?"

"Because of pieces of shit like you, obviously."

May's painful past had been prodded, and her expression became even colder. "I can step back at any time, but against HYDRA, I'm still the Cavalry—especially after you killed Nick Fury."

"Tsk. Then there's nothing to be done. Any stumbling block that tries to oppose HYDRA or obstruct HYDRA's revival has to be removed."

Rumlow snorted coldly.

"So you're going to kill us here?" Coulson asked.

"No. Someone wants to see you."

Just as Rumlow finished speaking, the roar of car engines came from outside. Soon, the crowd parted to open a path, and Alexander Pierce appeared before the three of them.

"So it really is you," Coulson said, his expression darkening the moment he saw Alexander.

Clint and May exchanged a glance, a strange light flashing through their eyes.

It was as if they had reached some kind of silent understanding.

"Coulson, within the department, aside from Nick Fury, you were the one I valued most. You're a very fine talent. You shouldn't be buried along with Nick."

Pierce wore a thick down jacket, his tone carrying the condescension of someone offering charity from above.

He had come to complete the final step, the one that would mark HYDRA's rise and revival.

But at the same time, he had also come to recruit them.

Talent was rare, and the three people before him were talents among talents. He hoped they could join HYDRA and become his most loyal soldiers.

What Pierce never expected was that Coulson would instead reveal a smug smile.

"I'm honored. But you don't really think you've won, do you?"

The moment he finished speaking—

Bang!!

A sharp, piercing frequency suddenly erupted. In an instant, a special sound wave swept across the entire area, violent and trembling.

Pierce, Rumlow, and every HYDRA soldier present were caught in it. Stimulated by the strange frequency, intense dizziness and pain exploded through them.

Everyone instinctively clutched their ears. Some even dropped their guns, their faces twisting as they howled in agony.

"Ahhhhhhh!"

"Fuck—attack! We're under attack!"

Rumlow and a few soldiers with stronger wills tried to fight back and reach for their guns again. Unfortunately, in the end, they were still flesh and blood. Their will could not break through the pain wracking their bodies, and like the rest of the HYDRA soldiers, they collapsed weakly to the ground.

Coulson, May, and Hawkeye Clint, on the other hand, were completely unharmed.

The three of them simply stood where they were, leisurely watching the painful expressions of Pierce and the HYDRA agents before them.

Soon, just as Pierce and the others were about to pass out, the piercing frequency suddenly vanished.

Immediately after, another group of fully armed soldiers and agents walked over, surrounding the entire scene layer by layer. The roar of armed helicopter rotors could also be heard overhead.

The HYDRA agents were disarmed with ease. Their hands and feet were locked in special restraints, Rumlow included.

Only Pierce was left untouched.

Pierce's consciousness was hazy, and it took him quite a while to slowly recover. When his mind finally cleared and he saw that familiar figure push through the crowd and walk up to him, his eyes suddenly widened.

He lost his composure entirely, blunting out, "Nick?"

"Surprise, Pierce. Merry Christmas."

That was right. The one who had arrived was none other than Nick Fury, who had faked his death.

S.H.I.E.L.D. agents helped the HYDRA members sprawled on the ground to their feet and escorted them onto the transport vehicles that had driven in.

Only Pierce and Rumlow were left at the scene.

The two of them were also helped up, gun barrels pressed against their heads.

But Pierce and Rumlow completely ignored the threat, staring fixedly at Nick Fury's familiar face.

"What a surprise. How did you do it, Nick? Where did you get the manpower?" Pierce asked after figuring things out, still unable to understand.

"High-frequency loudspeakers. Product of the S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy. Do you like them?"

Nick Fury looked at the man before him, someone who had once been both mentor and friend, and a cold curve rose at the corner of his mouth.

After saying that, he stepped forward and looked straight into Pierce's eyes.

"And you forgot one key person, Pierce. Someone who hates HYDRA more than anyone else."

"Peggy Carter."

The name struck Pierce's mind like a bolt of lightning, causing his face to instantly turn pale. Peggy Carter—the legendary lover of Captain America, Steve Rogers, and one of the founding pillars of S.H.I.E.L.D.
