Chapter 154: A Natural Dark Lord, Straight to Azkaban
Although Needy had not been injected with the super-soldier gene serum, special circumstances had caused an irreversible transformation in the underlying code of her body's genes.
As a result, half of her bloodline was demonic.
Half human, half demon.
People like this were not exactly rare. For example, there were the siblings Daimon Hellstrom and Satana Hellstrom.
Those two were hybrids born of a demon and a human.
Their father was the Hell Lord Satan Marduk Kurios, and they possessed extremely powerful abilities.
Daimon and his sister had powerful cross-dimensional teleportation abilities. They could teleport themselves, other people, objects, and even buildings to Earth or to other dimensions.
They also possessed superhuman strength, could project illusions, and could alter their own appearances.
Then there was Nightcrawler among the mutants.
This unlucky man, who in the future would nearly trigger a war between humans and mutants because of an assassination attempt on the President of the United States, was also a hybrid.
Only his bloodline was even more mixed.
His father was the mutant Azazel, who himself was a hybrid, half demon and half mutant, and stood at the ceiling of teleportation ability.
Nightcrawler was the same.
Generally speaking, most hybrids between demons and humans were born through pregnancy, inheriting the powerful bloodline of their demon father or mother.
Needy's case, however, was different. She had only been bitten once by her best friend after that friend was possessed by a demon, which caused her genes to reverse and fuse.
The success rate for that was actually extremely low.
In most cases like Needy's, the victim would simply be eaten by the demon. Even if they were lucky enough to escape and survive, they would not make it through the stage of genetic transformation.
Needy was a miracle that could not be replicated.
First, the demon that possessed Jennifer was an ancient and extremely powerful type of demon from Hell.
Second, Needy survived because Jennifer's remaining consciousness did not want to hurt her.
Finally, when Jennifer's soul should have disappeared completely and Needy should have been eaten, Matthew appeared and saved her.
All of those coincidences together created Needy.
One could only say that these two best friends had suffered greatly, but were also fortunate.
With the bloodline of a powerful demon, Needy's talent in magic would become quite outstanding, especially in black magic. In the world of Harry Potter, she would be a natural Dark Lord.
If she entered Hogwarts, the Sorting Hat would probably scream "Azkaban."
A naturally wicked girl.
And she really was wicked.
Because while following Matthew, this girl would flirt and pose in front of him whenever she had nothing better to do. Her figure could only be described as scorching.
That bookish student from back then had grown up too.
...
Rijeka.
A port city on the coast of the Kvarner Gulf in the Adriatic Sea, and currently the third-largest city in Croatia.
The scenery there was also pleasant.
The city was surrounded by mountains on three sides and faced the sea. Mount Učka to the west and the Gorski Kotar mountains to the north gave it a unique landscape, while the waters to the south offered a full view of the Kvarner Gulf.
It was also one of the most popular tourist cities in the world today.
Every year, it received a great many visitors.
Yet today, the city welcomed two uninvited guests.
One was a slightly plump Asian man, and the other was a black-haired Black man. Their clothing and appearance were no different from ordinary tourists as they moved through the city's alleys.
On the surface, they seemed to be admiring the exotic charm of this coastal city.
In truth, their sharp gazes were searching for something.
Soon, when they reached an alley beside a slightly remote residential area, they stopped.
The Black man looked at the Asian man, adjusted the baseball cap on his head, and said in a low voice, "Do you feel it, Wong?"
As he spoke, he looked into the alley. Inside stood an ordinary three-story residential building.
Most of the buildings here were three to five stories high, arranged closely together. The streets and alleys were narrow and winding, the buildings pressed against one another, giving the lanes a deep, enclosed feeling.
The walls were beige, ocher, and pale gray lime plaster, rough and heavy.
Because this place was deeper in and more remote, it did not have the liveliness of the coastal streets or the city center outside. Instead, it seemed quiet and empty.
Sunlight poured down, making it unusually bright.
Yet beneath that brightness, the two of them sensed an unprecedented darkness and evil.
If they had not been so close, they would never have felt it so clearly.
"It's here, Sorcerer Mordo." Wong nodded in a low voice.
"Let's go."
After Wong confirmed it, Mordo did not hesitate for even a moment and walked straight inside, leaving behind Wong, who had just raised his hand, intending to return to Kamar-Taj and call for help.
"Damn it."
Wong's expression changed. Seeing Mordo rush in like that, he simply could not understand why Mordo was being so impatient.
This was not even impatience. It was losing his head.
The people they were facing this time were not those lifeforms from other dimensions that had invaded Earth.
Mordo's actions had completely abandoned the teachings the Ancient One had once given them.
But Wong could not simply let Mordo charge in alone. He hurriedly formed a hand seal with one hand, and a streak of golden light shot upward from his hand before quickly disappearing.
After doing that, Wong immediately quickened his steps and followed.
But just as they stepped into the depths of the alley, before they even entered the residential building, both Mordo and Wong's expressions changed sharply.
They crossed their hands, then separated them and assumed combat stances.
Complex energy array diagrams condensed on the surface of their fists — this was the most basic universal magic of the mystic sorcerers, the Ring of Raggadorr.
It served as the precursor activation ritual for many advanced spells.
Mordo took a step back and stood back-to-back with Wong, facing both sides of the alley. His expression turned grim as he realized his recklessness had led them straight into a trap.
And he had dragged Wong into it too.
Sure enough, on both sides of the alley not far away, ripples spread one after another as a group of figures emerged.
Each of them wore yellow sorcerer robes. Their eye sockets were scorched black, and at the center of their brows was a mark belonging solely to darkness.
That was the symbol of drawing power from and worshiping the dark.
The leader was someone Mordo and Wong knew better than anyone.
Kaecilius.
With a quick glance, they saw that this group already numbered more than ten.
And all of them came from Kamar-Taj.
Kaecilius stood before several sorcerers and slowly paced toward Mordo and Wong, stopping less than a meter away.
Wong stared at Kaecilius's face. Compared with the night of his betrayal, Kaecilius's state seemed strange.
A terrifying aura of darkness flowed from him almost without concealment.
Yet beneath that dark aura, Wong somehow felt that Kaecilius was inexplicably weak.
Powerful and weak. Two contradictory states had actually appeared in the same person at the same time. It was very strange.
"Wong. Mordo. Long time no see."
Kaecilius's face was more sinister than before, and one could still faintly see that his skin had taken on an eerie pale-gray color.
His voice was still deep and hoarse.
"Kaecilius, you have betrayed light and justice. Come back with me and accept judgment."
Facing the encirclement, Mordo showed no fear. Instead, he shouted with righteous severity.
