Chapter 151: My God, Is This Magic?
Perhaps Professor X had not paid much attention to it before, or perhaps that clash during Matthew's first visit had awakened him.
At the very least, Professor X had now restrained himself in that regard.
Of course, Matthew did not particularly care.
With his personality, he did not trust the old man at all.
So after the Technology Department received HYDRA's legacy technology, it had already begun developing chip equipment to resist psychic power.
In fact, HYDRA had long possessed mature technology for this.
It existed precisely because of the mutant sitting before him, one of the strongest telepaths in the world.
Back then, Pierce had also had one of those things embedded behind his neck.
Unfortunately, Neagley's Memo-Memo Fruit was completely unreasonable.
It was a rule-type ability. Her hand had reached into Pierce's brain, grabbed the memory film inside, and then snipped and edited it over and over.
The chip had never triggered at all.
The Technology Department was now improving the chip technology, planning for everyone to have one in the future.
The two warbands, however, had no need for it.
Because it was unnecessary.
Leaving aside how their will and mental power grew stronger alongside their continuously evolving physiques, and how meditation increased their spiritual power, their armor and combat uniforms also had runes specifically designed to resist psychic power.
Magic specialized in this area.
Among the threats they had faced from other dimensions over the years, there were many abilities that directly corroded or tempted the mind.
The sorcerers had long since developed all kinds of methods in this field.
Matthew's luck lay in the fact that he could perfectly pluck the fruits of the results others had researched for countless years.
The focus was convenience and efficiency.
The thought flashed by in an instant. On the surface, Matthew remained calm and smiled in reply. "Luxury cars are no less tempting to boys than guns and game consoles."
"Yeah. Actually, girls can't resist them either."
Logan cut in, still looking the same as always, a cigar in his mouth and a cool expression on his face.
In truth, he also had that American sense of humor.
It was just rather dry.
Matthew glanced at him and smiled without saying anything. Professor X understood and said seriously, "Mr. Matthew, you may begin at any time, but I must be present. This is my responsibility toward Scott. I hope you can understand."
Back in San Juan, because his old friend Erik, Magneto, had been hammered down by Matthew, and because the bargaining chips Matthew offered had moved him, the professor had chosen to make a deal.
One of those conditions was that Matthew would borrow Scott's mutant ability to search for the unknown energy-filled dimension connected behind that ability.
Cyclops Scott's mutant ability was rather special.
A long time ago, Beast Hank had studied Scott's ability.
His research discovered that Scott's eyes did not fire lasers. They were dimensional cracks leading to a Punch Dimension.
His eyes were permanent gateways between the real universe and an alternate dimension of infinite energy. The red beams were high-energy particles from that dimension surging into reality.
It carried tremendous kinetic impact by nature. It was not a heat laser and did not generate heat. It destroyed objects through impact force.
To put it plainly, his eyeballs could continuously release particle beams with powerful kinetic energy. This energy was primarily kinetic impact. Its destructive power came from the physical damage caused by high-speed collision, not from high-temperature burning.
The heat it produced was only a byproduct of the high-speed friction between the beam and the target material. The beam itself did not carry thermal energy.
When Scott had first awakened, he had been able to open and close this dimensional energy gateway at will.
But a childhood head injury had caused his mental force field to become unable to close the dimensional passage. He had to keep his eyes shut.
Because of that, Hank had made him a special ruby-quartz visor, which could block the outflow of extradimensional energy.
The visor also had a built-in energy valve regulator. It could shut the beam off and adjust the output level.
Hank had once tried to repair the trauma in Scott's brain, but unfortunately, he had not been able to do it.
"That's fine." Matthew did not refuse Professor X's request.
After all, the professor was simply worried about his student.
And besides, Matthew was not afraid that Professor X could interfere.
"Should we go to the laboratory?"
"No need. Do you want to watch too?"
Matthew looked at Logan and Phoenix, Jean Grey.
"Can we?"
Jean Grey naturally hoped to watch from the side. Matthew nodded and said nothing more.
Then he crossed his hands.
The next second, the sound of shattering glass reached everyone's ears. Their vision blurred, and the world underwent a very subtle change.
So subtle that Logan and Scott did not even notice it.
Only Professor X and Phoenix Jean Grey sensed something.
Sitting in his wheelchair, the professor's eyes moved slightly. He discovered that his psychic power could no longer detect the brainwaves of the students who should have been in the school.
Only the brainwaves of the few people in the headmaster's office remained.
He immediately realized that this was that strange space.
Back then, Professor X had spoken with Magneto, and the latter had described that strange space to him in detail.
Clearly, this was it.
Phoenix was about the same. She also possessed psychic power, and she likewise could not read the brainwaves of the other students in the school.
"An incredible ability."
Professor X used his psychic power to explore for a while, only to discover that there was not a single other person's brainwaves in the entire county, or even the city. It was as if everyone had vanished.
The shock in his heart could not be faked.
He finally understood why his old friend Erik, who had always been proud and arrogant, had become so serious and solemn when speaking of Matthew.
Anyone would feel despair.
Matthew did not need their agreement at all to bring them into a space like this. If he could maintain it indefinitely, then he only needed to leave.
No matter who was trapped here, if they did not know how to break through and return to the real world, the result would either be starving to death or being driven mad by loneliness.
It was like a vast, uninhabited prison.
Then an even more shocking scene appeared.
Matthew merely stretched out both palms and gently swept them to the sides.
Crack! Crack! Crack!
The walls, ceiling, and floor around the not-so-large headmaster's office actually began to stretch and fold without limit.
Under the astonished gazes of Professor X and the other three, an open area with a diameter of several thousand meters appeared.
When they looked up, the ceiling had also been raised to a height of several dozen meters.
"My God, is this magic?"
Logan's mouth opened wide. He did not even notice the cigar falling from his lips. Forget the cigar; his jaw was almost about to hit the floor.
Logan's brain had already stopped working.
This was magic.
The corner of Matthew's lips rose. Ignoring their shock, he looked toward Cyclops Scott.
"Take off your visor, Scott. Aim toward that empty direction."
"Is that okay?"
Hearing Matthew's words, Scott came back to himself and took a few steps forward. The space ahead was open and empty.
"My ability…"
He was still somewhat hesitant.
Once he removed his visor, as long as he opened his eyes, it would be maximum full-power output. Even he had never tested just how powerful it could be.
"In here, you can release it as much as you want."
"Then I won't hold back."
