Chapter 150: You’ve Got Those Little Ones Excited, Mr. Matthew
Matthew gave the two girls a day off. After chattering together for a while, they wanted to drag Matthew along to have fun with them.
But Matthew refused.
It was not because he was especially aloof. In truth, aside from his strength and assets, he was still essentially a young man not yet twenty.
A mature mentality did not mean he disliked liveliness.
He liked having fun too.
It was just that his way of having fun was a little different.
But today, aside from bringing the two girls to New York for real combat, he also intended to make a trip to Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.
His goal was naturally the unknown dimension connected to Cyclops Scott's eyes.
Because Matthew had already visited the mutant school before, this visit went even more smoothly. However, since he was visiting as a guest, he drove there.
Unlike at the beginning, Matthew's current wealth could no longer be described simply as rich.
Getting a car was no big deal.
In fact, he had luxury mansions and estates in almost every country and every major city in the world.
It could only be said that the wealth of HYDRA combined with Dreykov's was simply too vast.
Matthew drove a 1970 Dodge Charger—a pure muscle car. The matte-black American muscle car, with its broad body, raised hood, and the deep roar of its V8 engine, was the most oppressive street beast on New York's roads.
Matthew was not a car enthusiast, but driving a luxury car was clearly a form of enjoyment.
It was not only about status. He also enjoyed the amazed gazes coming from all directions while he drove.
Young people were like that.
Before long, he drove to the school. This school, converted from a mansion and covering one hundred hectares, had an old and solemn exterior. It was surrounded by forests and lakes, with a beautiful natural environment.
At the entrance, a large metal gate blocked the way.
But because he had contacted them in advance, the gate opened automatically when he arrived.
The car drove into the school.
The engine's low, rough roar cut through the woods, instantly drawing the attention of many mutant students who were playing and messing around on the lawn and walkways after class. The students all turned their heads, their eyes full of amazement.
"Wow, look! That's a 1970 Dodge Charger."
"My God, it's as perfect as a top-grade steak."
"Look at those lines, listen to that sound. It's like a brownie drizzled with honey. Too charming."
"A matte-black body with that V8? That's the most addictive bite of American dessert. Cool."
"Who could resist a beast like that? Just hearing the engine makes my adrenaline spike."
The girls were still relatively calm. The boys, however, were the ones whose eyes truly lit up. They wished they could climb in and drive that beast themselves.
Matthew parked the car on the road in front of the school building.
Many students in the distance, as well as those in the corridors, gathered around, excited and curious as they watched, wanting to see who had come to the school.
All the students knew very well that none of the school's teachers owned this car.
Clearly, it was a guest.
Soon, the driver's side door opened, and Matthew stepped out.
He wore a heavy black solid-color crewneck T-shirt with a black denim jacket over it. Below were dark gray washed straight-leg utility jeans and black high-top vintage work boots.
Paired with his refined features and the classic American muscle car beside him, he looked wild yet restrained.
The girls' eyes shone as they watched. Even the boys thought Matthew was far too cool.
"Hey, pal, is this your car?"
At that moment, a defiant-looking boy walked over. He glanced at the muscle car, his tone carrying envy.
The boy was very young, looking about the same age as Matthew. He had short-to-medium light blond hair parted to one side. The hair on top was fluffy and slightly curled, while the sides were shorter. His bangs slanted to one side, carrying a slightly rebellious, messy feeling.
He wore a distressed black hooded jacket, the collar hanging loose and open. A slim black inner shirt outlined his clean build, and below were dark utility jeans.
"Yeah. Handsome, isn't it?"
Matthew glanced at the boy and recognized who he was from his expression alone.
"Too cool." The boy was excited and held out his hand. "I'm John."
But just as he stretched out his hand, a gentle female voice came from the side.
"Mr. Matthew, welcome back to the school as a guest. The Professor is waiting for you."
The signature shoulder-length wine-red hair and gentle temperament belonged to none other than Phoenix, Jean Grey.
Matthew was not in a hurry to answer. Instead, he looked at the boy named John.
He reached out and shook his hand. "Matthew."
After that, he followed Jean into the school.
Seeing Matthew leave with Jean, the other students immediately crowded around the Dodge, taking out their phones to photograph it and talk excitedly.
John, however, stared at Matthew's back, thinking about something.
Suddenly, an arm hooked around John's neck.
John turned his head and saw his good friend, Bobby.
"Dude, what are you looking at? Don't tell me you're... mm-hm?"
Bobby was also white, with short, choppy hair, broken bangs over his forehead, and slightly upturned ends. His personality was very sunny, but when he spoke to John, he put on a teasing expression as if asking whether John was about to become gay.
He was clearly joking.
John irritably jabbed his elbow into his bad friend's chest, then turned back and stared in the direction Matthew had left.
"I just think that guy isn't simple."
"How isn't he simple?"
Bobby found it a little strange.
"I don't know. But when I faced him, I felt this inexplicable tension."
John's expression was very serious.
He had never felt that way before.
No matter who he faced.
Even when facing Professor Charles, whom he respected most, he only saw him as a professor.
A young man was naturally unruly and refused to submit to anyone. And with his ability to control fire, John was even prouder.
"Wow, now that's big news."
Bobby raised his brows, a little surprised. Then he excitedly prepared to shout the matter out, only for John to grab his neck hard and cover his mouth.
John's threat sounded beside his ear. "Hey, you popsicle. If you dare say it out loud, I'll burn your eyebrows clean off."
"Mmph, mmph."
Bobby was threatened, so he immediately nodded obediently.
Only then did John let go.
Unexpectedly, the moment Bobby broke free he turned and ran while shouting loudly. John stood there stunned.
"What the fuck?"
The students' commotion did not affect Matthew's meeting with Professor X.
Inside the headmaster's office, aside from Professor X, there were also Wolverine Logan and Cyclops Scott.
After both sides greeted each other, Charles remained in his classic look, wearing a suit and sitting in his wheelchair.
"Mr. Matthew, you certainly made those little ones very excited today."
Professor X spoke first. His attitude and tone made people feel as if they were basking in a spring breeze.
In truth, as Professor X grew older, his attitude toward people had become even more approachable.
That was, of course, if one ignored the fact that he might occasionally use psychic powers to control others or read memories and the like.
Naturally, unless it was a necessary situation, he generally wouldn't choose to do so.
