Chapter 116 - 111: The Magical White Wild Boar
Luh Yao noticed something hanging from the lampshade of a streetlight in the parking alley.
His vision was excellent now, and he could tell at a glance that it was an envelope, swaying back and forth in the cold wind. The envelope had been hanging on the streetlight for two days.
A short while later, someone appeared under the streetlight.
It was a girl in a white puffy jacket. She carried a small bag, wore a camel-colored baseball cap, and had on brown snow boots. The girl stood under the light, rubbing her hands together in the cold wind, seemingly waiting for someone.
Luh Yao didn’t quite understand Song Shiyi’s behavior.
’Is she meeting someone here? Or maybe... she’s trying to find Isabel?’
Just like the past two days, Song Shiyi left after waiting for more than ten minutes.
Just then, Xiaohuo finished making dinner.
A plate of stir-fried noodles with shredded pork and green peppers, and a bowl of seaweed egg drop soup.
Luh Yao picked up a bundle of noodles with his chopsticks, his gaze shifting to the simulator.
He first glanced at the top right corner.
There were two key stats he had to keep an eye on at all times.
Population: 28,177 | Faith: 8,471
Aside from the one-time population boost of 2,900 from the Deep Sea Fishmen, the number of Believers was also steadily increasing.
As for Faith, his consumption had been massive after the recent series of Divine Wars, and Luh Yao’s Faith reserves had once dropped below 2,000.
Fortunately, he now possessed 18 Faith-generating Artifacts, which brought in 1,032 Faith per day. He’d recover after a few days of rest and recuperation.
The two wonder prototypes his little people were building, the [Lighthouse] and the [Divinity School], would have to be put on the back burner for a while.
Speaking of Artifacts, Luh Yao had initially considered creating various combinations of them to further develop their abilities.
He even created a special document on his computer titled "On the Maximized Utilization of Faith Artifacts."
But after a bit of analysis, his head started to spin and he felt drowsy.
’Forget it.’
He closed the document and threw it into the recycle bin.
’It’s not important.’
Artifacts were meant to serve their owner anyway.
As long as he had enough of them and their quality was high enough, he could just browse through them when needed and would likely find something useful.
More is good, and good is more!
It was like instant noodles. You don’t try to make a single packet taste like an imperial feast. You just stock up on as many flavors and price points as possible, and then pick one when you’re hungry. That’s it.
The most important things in the simulator were, and always would be, population and Faith.
Luh Yao’s top priority right now was to find the [White God] hiding in the shadows.
He opened the Divine Hall interface and questioned the two Apostles in charge of the search.
There was still no progress.
Luh Yao asked Isabel.
"Is it possible that the White God isn’t on land or in the sea, but in the sky? Or in the clouds?"
In the Pixel World, the player’s view would habitually focus on the ground or the sea. It was a habit born from the top-down perspective.
However, if you pulled the camera up higher, you could see floating clouds. They were just simple clumps of white pixels, very crude and easy to overlook.
This was, in a way, a blind spot.
"My Lord, I have already searched every cloud region."
Isabel replied, "There’s nothing in the clouds. If I ascend any further, I’ll reach the world’s border, and there’s nowhere to place a Divine Statue there either."
Luh Yao finished the last of the stir-fried noodles in his bowl and wiped his mouth with a napkin.
’Not in the sky.’
’So how exactly did this White God manage to hide itself?’
’This player has a few tricks up their sleeve.’
Isabel offered a guess, "My Lord, could it be like the Tao God before? The White God’s Divine Statue might be constantly moving, which is why we can’t pinpoint its location."
Her words were a wake-up call for Luh Yao.
’That’s a real possibility.’
If an Apostle was constantly helping the White God move its Divine Statue, it would be difficult to find a fixed coordinate.
The Fish People hadn’t found anything underwater because the White God’s main base wasn’t in the sea.
Just as Luh Yao was about to adjust his strategy, there was a major development in Yao City.
A Believer of the White God had turned himself in.
This Believer, named Yang Hu, knelt before the Divine Hall, weeping profusely. He said he shouldn’t have forgotten Yao God, who had protected his people for generations, and that he’d followed a Heterodox Evil God out of greed for gems.
Yang Hu was a shepherd.
Yan Jiu had told him that the White God was the God of Treasure, and by believing in the White God, he could obtain endless riches and unparalleled power.
Faced with this offensive of gems, the impoverished Yang Hu’s Faith wavered.
After following Yan Jiu, fleeing east and west, Yang Hu finally realized he had been tricked!
If gems couldn’t be used in the city, they were just pretty stones.
He missed the clean houses in Yao City, his stinky but warm flock of sheep, and the city’s fragrant wheat cakes, potatoes, roasted salt fish, and refreshing ale.
Now he was living like a primitive Wild Person, foraging for berries, eating raw fish, and hiding everywhere like a beast being chased by a Hunter.
The furious Yang Hu decided to go back!
To go before the Divine Hall and repent, to beg for the forgiveness of his God and the Prophet.
Before he returned, he decided he would atone for his crime with a meritorious deed!
He had to find the main camp of the Evil God’s Believers. Only then could they completely eradicate this group of cultists and prevent more people from being deceived and led astray like he was.
After a period of patient waiting and hiding, Yang Hu followed Yan Jiu and saw the [White God]’s Apostle.
"It was a huge White Wild Boar, filled with terrifying power."
"When it roared, everyone was too scared to move."
A memory stirred in Luh Yao’s mind.
Among the Pig Fish Brothers, the Headhunter had been obsessed with a legendary White Wild Boar that had never been caught. He had been eager to capture it as a Sacrificial Offering.
The legendary White Wild Boar actually existed.
Kneeling outside the Divine Hall, Yang Hu continued, "...That White Wild Boar is called Lord Bai, and it’s also the White God’s messenger. It told all of us to spread the Faith of the White God, to bring people to kneel before it, and then it would grant us power."
"Although Lord Bai looks like a wild boar, it doesn’t stay in the forest. It slumbers underground on a small island north of the Western Continent."
"But it didn’t tell us about a Divine Statue or a Divine Hall. It just told us to silently chant the White God’s name and offer our Faith."
"Not everyone in our group truly believed in the White God. We were all just there for the gems, thinking we could take them and go back to the city... This made Lord Bai furious, and it gave Yan Jiu a harsh scolding."
"Afterward, Lord Bai told us to find new Believers, so I immediately ran back to report."
Yang Hu prostrated himself, his head hitting the ground. A crying emoji appeared above his head.
"Lord Yao God, please forgive my ignorance and foolishness! I truly know I was wrong! I will sincerely repent every day and spread the God’s Gospel to everyone!"
Luh Yao wasn’t concerned about a turncoat like Yang Hu.
As the population of his little people grew, all sorts of individuals would appear.
As long as his Faith and civilization remained in the lead, people like Yang Hu would always side with the strong.
The key was still having real power.
The White God’s method of press-ganging and pyramid-scheme-style recruiting would only attract a bunch of bad apples, making it impossible to build a stable, lasting Faith and civilization.
Luh Yao dispatched the Deep Sea Lord to directly blockade the Northern Sea Region. Isabel also took control of the airspace; no movement below could escape her sight.
At the same time, the Blood Knight set out from the Northern Forest, heading for the island.
Suddenly, a dialog box popped up above Isabel’s head.
"My Lord, enemy spotted!"
Luh Yao switched his perspective.
On a desolate, rocky island, a White Wild Boar burst out from underground. It sprinted madly toward the coast, apparently trying to escape by sea.
’You think you can steal my Faith and just run for it?’
Luh Yao cracked his knuckles.
’Today, it’ll be Apostle versus Apostle. I’ll give you a fair fight.’
’That way, no one can say that I, a mighty God, am always bullying people with lightning.’
