Jack parked the flying boat near the cave, where Gwen had been waiting outside for him.

"Is this the flying vehicle you told me about on the call? It really looks unique," Gwen said, eyeing the boat.

"Yeah! And Lisa, this is Gwen, my girlfriend," Jack said, introducing them. He’d already told Lisa that they were from Earth on the way there. She’d been shocked at first, and she still looked like she hadn’t fully processed it.

"Hi. Where’s Kalen?" Lisa asked.

"Resting inside. He took a shot to the chest and lost a lot of blood."

At that, Lisa immediately ran toward the cave.

"Let’s give them a minute," Jack said. "We should load everything into the boat in the meantime."

He and Gwen got to work loading in the supplies he’d bought earlier.

"It’s a tight fit with all this stuff, but we’ll manage," Jack said as they finished loading everything.

Just then, Kalen stepped out of the cave, leaning on Lisa for support.

"Jack, thank you so much for saving Lisa," Kalen said.

"Yeah, thank you," Lisa added.

"It’s fine. We should head out soon. No telling if those soldiers will track us down here."

Vroom!

The boat lifted off and turned west, gliding toward the royal city at full speed.

"So how long until we reach the royal city?" Gwen asked curiously.

Jack pulled up the map function on the boat’s console.

"Two days? That far, really?" Gwen asked, doubtful, given that the boat was already cruising at around 600 km/h.

"There’s a straight route that’d take under twenty-four hours, but it cuts through military territory, mountains, and some dangerous zones. We’d have to slow down or avoid several areas, so it’s safer to take the longer route around," Jack explained.

"Can you two tell me more about your planet and space in general? I don’t know much beyond ’aliens exist,’" Lisa asked, curiosity written across her face.

"Sure. What do you want to know?" Gwen asked.

Lisa thought for a moment before asking her first question.

"Are all humans like you two? I mean, do they all look the same?"

Jack and Gwen looked at each other.

"No," Gwen said. "Humans have many different skin colors. Some have white skin, some have brown or black skin, and there are many shades in between."

Lisa’s eyes widened.

"Really? They’re all the same species?"

"Yeah," Jack said. "People can look very different and still be human."

Lisa looked amazed.

"That’s so different from here. Almost everyone on our planet has green skin."

They continued talking, and Lisa asked several more questions about Earth, including how many different languages humans spoke.

"Then how do you understand us?" Lisa asked.

"I have a translation device. It translates languages for me," Jack explained.

Kalen, who had been listening quietly, suddenly looked at Gwen.

"Wait, how do you understand us? You couldn’t understand me before."

Gwen smiled.

"Yeah. At first, I didn’t have a translation device like Jack, but I had Red Queen. She’s been decoding the Zehoberei language from the start. By comparing it with how Jack speaks, she was able to figure it out pretty quickly," Gwen explained.

She also explained to them what an AI was so they could understand how Red Queen worked.

The conversation continued from there. Lisa learned that Earth had many different countries, cultures, languages, and types of people. She was especially surprised by how easily humans could travel between cities using roads, trains, ships, and airplanes.

In return, Lisa explained more about Zehoberei. Her planet had dangerous creatures in many areas, which made traveling between cities difficult. Because of this, most people rarely traveled far from their own cities unless they had important reasons.

She also explained that the royal family had ruled Zehoberei for many generations, controlling the government and military.

"Does Earth have a royal family?" Lisa asked.

"Not anymore," Gwen answered. "Some countries had kings and queens in the past, but most of them have different types of governments now."

Lisa seemed surprised by that answer.

Kalen also asked several questions about Earth, especially about its cities, technology, and how humans were able to travel so easily between different parts of the planet.

The three continued exchanging questions and stories about their worlds for the rest of the journey.

Meanwhile...

"Your Majesty, we’re still searching for him," the Zehoberei general said into a monitor showing a middle-aged Zehoberei woman.

"Useless. Absolutely useless!" the queen snapped. "It’s been a full month since I sent you out there. And you can’t handle one boy from some backwater slum?"

"Your Majesty, we’ve tried everything, but he’s proven surprisingly clever. He keeps slipping away," the general said.

"Enough. I don’t care. A general who can’t kill one target in an entire month? I doubt you ever earned that rank properly. You’re demoted. And don’t bother coming back. You can die out there in the countryside for all I care."

She cut the call.

"Honestly, it’s better out here anyway," the general muttered. "At least I won’t die at the hands of my own people."

"General, aren’t we going after the fugitive?" a nearby soldier asked cautiously.

"Mind your own business, unless you’d rather die too."

The soldier’s stomach dropped. He quickly nodded and left.

Royal City

"No matter how many times I look at it, this city still doesn’t feel real to me," Lisa said, staring out the window with something close to wonder.

"Compared to everywhere else we’ve seen, this place really is on another level," Gwen agreed.

A week had passed since Jack and the others arrived in the royal city. By now, they had all gotten fairly comfortable navigating the massive city.

"Kalen, still no leads on your father?" Gwen asked.

Kalen, nearly fully healed by now, had spent the past week searching the massive city with Lisa, but all they had was his father’s name.

"Still nothing. I don’t even know where to start. The city is too big, and all we have is his name," Kalen said, lowering his head.

"Don’t give up hope yet. There’ll be a way," Gwen said, trying to encourage him.

"Speaking of, where’d Jack go? I haven’t seen him since morning," Lisa asked, looking around for him.

"Same as always. He’s out looking for the spaceship the royal family got after defeating the pirates," Gwen said.

"That one’s probably going to be tough to find. From what we’ve gathered, it’s under extremely tight security," Lisa said.

"Guys, I found it! I found it!" Jack burst into the room in his Zehoberei form, practically buzzing with excitement.

"You actually found it?" Gwen lit up too.

A whole week of searching, and finally, they had results. It meant they were finally one step closer to finding Emma and Morgan.
