Chapter 39 – Do Not Let That Kind of Man Go
Vivian stood where she was, her mind racing.
Malcolm Montgomery.
She had definitely heard that name before, and not just once.
Where was it?
She frowned and searched her memory.
Suddenly, a flash of insight crossed her mind.
She remembered.
Several years ago, at a chamber of commerce gathering, a few highly respected old entrepreneurs had mentioned that name while chatting.
Vivian still clearly remembered their expressions when they spoke of Malcolm Montgomery.
There had been awe, admiration, and a longing that was difficult to hide.
Malcolm Montgomery was the first living warlord-level legend to rise from the blood and fire of Northbridge.
His military achievements were outstanding. He had rendered great service and was a legendary figure whose name could be left in history.
In this world, military ranks of true power rose from commander to warlord to war god.
Even becoming a commander was already a height most ordinary people could never reach in a lifetime.
Although Malcolm Montgomery had retired from the military many years ago, the network and influence he had built still could not be underestimated.
Not to mention the descendants he had raised now held real power across many different fields.
The Montgomery family today had more than one warlord-level figure.
At least in Northbridge, the so-called four major families were not qualified to be compared with the Montgomery family.
The Montgomery family existed outside the ordinary game.
It proved one truth clearly.
Money and status could never truly compare with power.
Moreover, the Montgomery family had always been low-key. They never fought for empty reputation or minor profit because they did not need to fight.
Their position in Northbridge could not be shaken.
Thinking of this, Vivian looked at Ethan with an increasingly complicated gaze.
This man had casually saved an old stranger, and that stranger had turned out to have such terrifying status and background.
And this was a life-saving favor.
Not an ordinary favor.
For an existence at the Montgomery family's level, a life-saving favor weighed as heavily as a mountain.
Add to that Ethan's control over the four major families...
Vivian did not dare imagine what kind of influence Ethan would command in Northbridge from now on.
But immediately, another thought rose in her heart.
Such a powerful man was her boyfriend.
At that thought, Vivian's lips curved upward unconsciously, and an uncontrollable secret delight rose inside her.
Seeing that Ethan was still talking with Malcolm Montgomery and that the two seemed to be getting along unexpectedly well, Vivian did not go forward to interrupt.
Instead, she quietly took out her phone, opened her chat app, and found Celeste's profile.
Her fingers moved quickly across the screen.
Celeste, you may not believe this, but he actually knows medicine too. Just now, at the mall, an old man suddenly became ill, and he saved him. Guess who that old man was? The elder of the Montgomery family!
She tapped send.
The message had barely gone out before her phone vibrated.
Celeste replied almost instantly.
The elder of the Montgomery family? Which old master? Do you mean the former warlord, Malcolm Montgomery?
Vivian smiled and typed back.
Yes, him. I heard him introduce himself personally. You should have seen it. After Old Mr. Montgomery woke up, he promised that if anything happens in the future, we can go to the Montgomery family for support. He said even if he has to climb a mountain of blades or cross a sea of fire, he won't refuse.
After sending that, Vivian added another line in a tone of disbelief.
Tell me, what kind of luck do I have? I randomly dragged a man off the street to be my shield, and somehow I dragged back a treasure.
On the other side, Celeste stared at the messages on her phone for a long time without moving.
"Vivian's boyfriend saved Malcolm Montgomery's life? And now the Montgomery family, which countless people want to flatter, owes him a life-saving favor?"
That man was truly not simple.
After confirming this, Celeste became even more certain that Vivian's boyfriend could not possibly be Ethan.
In Celeste's eyes, Ethan did not have that kind of ability.
Aside from having some talent for cooking and serving people, Celeste had really never seen anything special in him.
Medical skill?
Don't joke.
In three years, Celeste had never seen Ethan read a single medical book, let alone treat anyone.
As for saving people?
With Ethan's personality, it was already good enough if he did not cause trouble. How could he take the initiative to save someone?
And not just anyone, but a figure at Malcolm Montgomery's level.
Impossible.
Absolutely impossible.
Celeste shook her head and typed a line.
Vivian, congratulations on finding such an outstanding boyfriend. At least from what I can see, he really is worth entrusting your life to. Don't let this kind of man go. Hold on to him properly.
After sending it, she added another message.
I've arrived at Drunken Immortal House. Take your time. Be careful on the road.
Putting down the phone, Celeste opened the car door with complicated feelings and stepped out.
It was not that she felt upset because Vivian had found such an excellent boyfriend.
It was simply that comparison hurt.
Did Celeste not want to find such an outstanding man to spend her life with?
If she could meet a man like that, she would not mind chasing him herself.
She stopped those extra thoughts.
The more she thought, the more depressed she would become. There was no need.
When she raised her eyes, an antique-style building stood in front of her. Its eaves curved upward, the beams were carved and painted, and two large red lanterns hung at the entrance.
Three gold characters were written across the sign.
Drunken Immortal House.
This restaurant was famous both domestically and abroad. It was a true five-star establishment.
It was said that the head chef's annual salary alone reached eight figures.
Celeste stepped inside on her high heels.
The lobby was splendid, combining classical style with modern luxury.
She walked to the front desk and stopped.
The receptionist behind the counter looked up and gave a professional smile.
"Welcome to Drunken Immortal House. How may I help you?"
Celeste nodded and gave her name.
"Celeste Shaw. I made a reservation earlier."
Hearing this, the receptionist did not even need to check the computer. Her face showed apology.
"I'm very sorry, Miss Shaw. The entire Drunken Immortal House has been booked today. When you made your reservation, there was a system issue, and the available reservation options were not removed in time."
She bowed slightly with both hands folded in front of her, her tone sincere.
"We are truly sorry."
Celeste froze. "The entire restaurant has been booked?"
She was surprised.
Drunken Immortal House was not an ordinary place. Booking the entire building had to cost an enormous amount of money.
At least seven figures.
And money alone might not be enough. One also needed sufficient face.
Celeste had been in Northbridge for years, and she had never heard of anyone making such a big move.
She frowned and asked curiously, "May I ask who booked the entire restaurant?"
She knew many people in Northbridge. If she could find the person, perhaps she could persuade them to spare one private room.
After all, she had already agreed to meet Vivian here. Changing locations last minute would be too troublesome.
And with her status, the other party should at least give her some face.
"It was..."
The receptionist had just begun to answer when a voice came from behind Celeste first.
"What a coincidence. I didn't expect to run into the great beauty Miss Shaw here."
Celeste recognized that voice.
