My Wife Never Knew Who I Really Was

Chapter 40 – Bringing His New Girlfriend to Meet His Ex-Wife

Celeste turned and looked toward the figure slowly descending the stairs with one hand on the railing.

She recognized him at once.

It was Marcus Blackwell, the former young master of the Blackwell family, one of the four major families.

Celeste nodded slightly, counting it as a greeting.

"So it was Mr. Blackwell who booked Drunken Immortal House. That explains it."

Her tone was polite but distant, maintaining the proper social distance.

After all, he was the young master of one of the four major families. Celeste still had to give him the most basic respect.

Even if her best friend's boyfriend was the true controller behind the four families, that was Vivian's boyfriend, not her man.

She had not even met him yet. How could she borrow his power shamelessly?

Celeste could not do that kind of thing.

Marcus came closer and stopped, the smile on his face far more restrained than before.

If this had been the past, seeing a beauty at Celeste's level would have made him immediately move in to get close, all sweet talk and pestering, hoping for a beautiful encounter.

Preferably one that entered the body, not each other's lives.

But today, there was not the slightest crooked thought in his eyes.

Celeste keenly noticed this and felt faintly surprised.

She did not think too deeply about it and simply asked, "May I ask who Mr. Blackwell booked the entire Drunken Immortal House to entertain?"

Her tone was casual, as if making small talk.

But she truly was curious.

There were not many people in all of Northbridge who could make the four major families book the entire Drunken Immortal House just to host them.

Hearing this, Marcus's smile turned bitter.

He sighed and did not hide it.

"Miss Shaw must have heard about it. I was blind and offended the true big figure behind the four major families."

His tone carried lingering fear as he continued, "The elders at home ordered me to personally apologize to that person again, no matter what. That's why I booked Drunken Immortal House and invited him here."

Celeste had of course heard about this.

The matter had already spread throughout Northbridge's upper circles.

As Celeste was thinking, Marcus added, "Of course, with only me, I wouldn't have enough weight to convince Drunken Immortal House to agree to a full booking."

He spread his hands and told the truth. "People from the other three families are involved too. We all want to build a good relationship with Mr. Cole."

Celeste nodded, indicating that she understood.

A person like that truly was worth such effort.

Wait.

She suddenly realized something.

Mr. Cole?

That mysterious big shot's last name was Cole?

Thinking of this, Celeste's heart skipped a beat.

Vivian's boyfriend is also surnamed Cole.

Once she realized that, her pupils shrank.

A bad thought rose uncontrollably in her mind.

Could Vivian's boyfriend really be...

No.

Impossible.

The moment the thought appeared, Celeste crushed it ruthlessly.

She shook her head and convinced herself internally.

Cole was a common surname. What was strange about someone else being named Cole?

It was a coincidence.

Just a coincidence.

She breathed deeply, trying to calm herself and stop thinking nonsense.

Marcus did not notice her abnormality and asked casually, "By the way, why is Miss Shaw here at Drunken Immortal House?"

His tone was extremely polite, completely unlike that of a spoiled young master.

Celeste came back to herself and looked at him.

Seeing Marcus behave so properly today actually made her a little uncomfortable.

But after thinking about it, she understood.

Marcus had only just offended that Mr. Cole. Right now, his mind was probably full of how to apologize and gain forgiveness so he could return to the Blackwell family.

How could he still have any mood to chase women?

Besides, Celeste knew very well that everyone in Northbridge knew she and Vivian were best friends.

If Marcus dared to harass her and word reached Vivian, then reached Mr. Cole...

Did Marcus still want his life?

Did the Blackwell family still want its future?

Celeste put those thoughts away and answered, "Coincidentally, I had reserved a private room here tonight. I was planning to have dinner with President Vivian West and her new boyfriend."

"I didn't expect the system to have an issue and for Drunken Immortal House to have already been fully booked by your four families."

The moment she finished speaking, Marcus's expression changed.

His eyes widened, his mouth opened slightly, and he froze for several seconds.

"What?"

His voice rose by an octave.

"So Miss Shaw was inviting Mr. Cole and Miss West here for dinner?"

He stepped forward, his face instantly filling with smiles, without the slightest hint of blame.

"You should have said so earlier."

Celeste stiffened at his sudden enthusiasm and felt a little at a loss.

Marcus did not care about that and continued speaking on his own.

"A private room, right? No problem. I'll have the best one prepared immediately."

He patted his chest and promised, "All expenses tonight will be paid by the four families. I only ask that Miss Shaw say a few good words for me in front of Mr. Cole."

When he said this, his posture was extremely low.

Where was even a shred of the arrogance of a Blackwell family young master?

Celeste looked at him, and mixed feelings rose in her heart.

This was the first time she had seen the notorious, arrogant Marcus Blackwell act so humble.

Suddenly, Celeste felt a little envious of Vivian.

She envied that Vivian had found such an excellent boyfriend.

Powerful.

Connected.

What woman would not want a man like that?

If Celeste met such a top-tier man in the future, she would have no problem chasing him herself.

But it was only envy.

There was no jealousy, let alone hatred.

Vivian was her closest friend. She sincerely hoped Vivian could be happy.

Celeste gathered her thoughts and nodded.

"Then I'll trouble Mr. Blackwell."

Marcus waved his hands quickly, smiling like a flower.

"No trouble at all. Miss Shaw is too polite."

He stepped aside and raised a hand in invitation.

"Miss Shaw, since time is short, let's go in quickly. Don't stand here in the wind. Be careful not to catch a chill."

His attitude was so respectful it almost looked servile.

Celeste nodded lightly and was just about to step forward.

Behind her came the sound of an engine, followed by the soft friction of tires against the ground.

Celeste instinctively turned to look.

A car stopped at the entrance of Drunken Immortal House.

She knew this car far too well.

When Vivian had bought it, Celeste had gone with her to choose it.

Now Vivian sat in the passenger seat.

That meant the person in the driver's seat had to be her boyfriend.

The mysterious Mr. Cole.

Celeste tilted her head, trying to look past Vivian and see the person getting out from the driver's side.

Her eyes narrowed unconsciously as she tried to focus.

The more she focused, the tighter her brows became.

That figure...

Familiar.

Too familiar.

She took one step forward, wanting to see more clearly.
