Chapter 7: Mobs, part two (53)
…
It had been a rather strange day so far. After all, she had simply gone for a walk. Then, she had gotten caught up in a weird assassin plot. After that, she had finally come here, to some sort of illegal brothel. The guards had been easier to deal with than she would have thought.
Yet now she was thinking clearly. Calvaria looked at what was happening in front of her. There, near the door that Climb and Brain had come in, was Climb. In front of the poor lad, was a member of this six arms group that she honestly had no idea existed.
In fact, she hadn’t even heard of this Eight Fingers mob group until the day before. It was all rather confusing, to be honest. The man in front of her must have been the illusionist Succulent that she had heard about from Climb.
Yet, as she peered at the man in front of her, he shifted his attention to her. He scowled as he looked at her. Sure, he was an illusionist, but he still couldn’t see through her illusion.
He squinted at her. He couldn’t see through her disguise, right? It was then that he simply shook his head and frowned. He spoke, his tone frustrated.
“I can’t win. I’ll try, but I can’t,” he said, completely confident in his words and stance.
This earned a shocked look from the heavily makeup covered man in the back. She hadn’t the faintest idea on who that was. Yet she was still confident that he was at least someone slightly important if this man who was supposed to be as strong as a Adamantite ranked adventurer was protecting him.
There she was, on the steps down to the floor. Calvaria wasn’t surprised really the Climb had gotten into some trouble. The lad seemed to ooze bad luck. In fact, his luck stat may be low, all things considered. Then again, she had a pretty high luck stat, and she was just running headfirst into a lot of trouble.
She stepped down to the floor level, and smirked. She looked at the man who was probably named Succulent, and brought her sword up to bear. He grinned a self-deprecating grin. He pulled his sword in front of himself as well. Climb looked at this and backed off.
He shimmied to the side and made sure that he was in the line of sight of Coco Doll. The man saw this, and flinched away to the back of Succulent. This caused that man to just grimace more.
It was then that He lunged, his sword going for a thrust. He leaned forward, intent on one strike to kill Calvaria. If he could wound or kill her, that would a miracle. He knew that, she knew that; even Climb knew that. The only one who hadn’t a clue on was truly going to happen was Coco Doll.
Calvaria blocked the thrust with the blade of her sword. They were now interlocked. She smiled at this turn of events, and kicked the man hard. He flew through the air.
Yet, before he could land, she lunged. Her legs flexed slightly, bringing her forward. No one in the room could even see her move. Her blade sunk into the man as he fell into it. His voice clawing out as he breathed his last. He slumped, death having taken him.
Calvaria removed the smile from her face. It was unsightly for her to have one right now. Yet, she felt so cool right now. All the elegance practicing in the mirror was enough for her. Yet now, she knew it was time well spent.
She flicked the blade down somewhat. Her mind cooling as her undead nature took hold. The body hit the floor with a wet thump. She scowled, her satisfaction with her style taken from her by her body.
She looked up from this, to see that Coco Doll was shivering. He was basically curled up in the fetal position by now. It would be funny if there wasn’t a corpse in front of him.
“Okay, now that he’s out of the picture,” she said, and Coco Doll winced, “let’s stuff you in jail.”
The man began to sob at that. Fear wafted off of him in waves. At least, she assumed it was fear that she was smelling instead of whatever it was supposed to be. She really hoped that it was what she thought it was.
“I think I better do it,” Climb said, his legs taking him next to Calvaria as he explained, “I don’t think that a lady such as yourself should rick getting whatever he just did on themselves,” he said, and Calvaria nodded her head.
She walked back to the stairway. Waiting for the lad to grab him as she prepared for Brain and Sebas to come down. With two people charging the front, the people up top and in the front had been cut down rather quickly.
She hadn’t seen Brain on the upper floors, but now she was fairly certain that he was coming down. Sebas was already here, after all. He was staying out of sight, though. He was watching for any more threats.
“Hey guys,” Brain said as he walked down the steps to see what was going on, “what did I miss?” he asked, then locked eyes with those of the dead Succulent.
“I killed him, it was rather easy. Didn’t expect him to go down that fast,” Calvaria said, her tone casual, “Really, I shouldn’t have expected him to be any stronger.”
“Uh huh?” Brain responded, his tone blank as bleach.
It was then that Sebas made his presence known. Calvaria watched him as he walked out of the shadows from the back of the room. He brought his arms forward and grabbed Coco Doll from Climb. The young man had been struggling with the load. Yet now he was fine.
Calvaria turned to Climb, his gaze locked onto Sebas as he carried the unconscious man. She simply smiled at the obvious admiration of him. He was obviously deep in thought as well. Yet she still had things to say, so she would have to interrupt his thoughts.
“Sebas, can you drop off the criminal in the local brig or wherever Climb or the guards want him, and make it back home?” He nodded his head yes, “great, after that let’s get out of here. All of what we came for is done,” Calvaria said, her tone light yet serious, “I have other plans that can’t wait,” she said.
“Of course, though you may need to stay a bit longer for your words on whatever investigation this will bring,” Climb explained.
Calvaria nodded at that. It made sense to her. She had some time as well. Now, since she was fairly certain that someone would be coming for them when they heard of this, she would have to get home, and get packed.
