Chapter 7: Mobs, part one (52)
Chapter 7: Mobs
Calvaria pinched her brow. This was not a good day. Sure, it had been a rather decent day up until now. Yet now, she had to deal with assassins coming for her subordinates because one girl was most definitely worth dealing with an unknown noble family.
She sighed once more for the umpteenth time that day, and stopped in front of a very large metal door. Climb, Sebas, and Brain were behind her. They stopped along with her, and looked at the door. Brain put a hand to his chin in thought. He was undoubtedly thinking of ways to get inside.
Yet, Calvaria was peeved enough to not really care. These people simply seemed arrogant and somewhat gutsy, and it angered and tuckered her out. mentally of course, she was undead and had infinite stamina. For whatever good that did her whenever she was with Albedo.
Calvaria shook her head of those thoughts. She then turned to the other two. She was fairly sure that Sebas knew what she was going to say, so she didn’t include him. She then said her plan.
“Since this is the front, you two take the back, me and Sebas shall take the front,” she said, her hand reaching for her Estoc as she said so.
The two men looked away from her, and she cackled internally. She would never get sick of that reaction. At first, she simply was imitating a meme she once saw about a rather old game. Yet now she did so for this reaction alone.
“Yeah,” Brain said, his voice slightly dimmed as he looked away.
“I agree,” Climb said as well.
As the other two ran to the back, their footsteps ringing out, Sebas turned to her as she glanced at the door. As he then spoke, she slashed at the hinges of the door. The sound ringing out loud.
“My lady, do you really need to pull it out from your cleavage?” he asked.
“No, but it is funny,” she said with the slightest of smirks.
She then kicked the door down after she said so. It clattered into the entrance room with a rather loud bang. The men on the inside looked from the door, to the woman standing there now, Calvaria. There was only three people there in total.
“Greetings everyone, I am the Adamantite ranked adventurer Calvaria, but please, just call me Calvaria,” she said and stepped inside.
…
Climb looked around the space. He found it hard to believe that he had missed anything. After all, he had looked for traps, found said traps, and had passed beyond them. Brain was with him, and he was equally peeved at the lack of people.
He rang one of the bells at his hip, and a trap door in the floor glowed blue for a second. Then, he walked over it, and kneeled. Then he pulled a triangular bell from his hip, and rang it. The trap door glowed green for but a moment.
He opened the door, and on the underside was a crossbow. It was loaded with what he could only assume was a poisonous arrow. He sighed as he unloaded the trap, and closed the door once again.
He stood up, and surveyed the room with a glance. It was rather spacious. Off to the left of the entrance was the stairway up the top floor. In front of the doorway was a rather large box, next to the said box was a closet.
Brain made his way up the stairs, and turned to speak with Climb. His tone was measured as he did so. The mission required it, after all.
“Alright, I’m going up there. You should stay down here in case if anyone comes down the stairs and slips past me,” he said, and Climb nodded in return.
“Good idea, I was planning to do so anyway,” Climb said, his voice low so as not to alert anyone of their presence.
Brain nodded back and ran up the stairs, his hand on his sword. Climb sighed after he left and looked back to the closet. It was nagging at his mind that something of importance might be in there. So, he walked over to it.
He opened one of the drawers, and inside he found a selection of maid uniforms. He raised a brow at this. His mind somewhat confused as to why they needed so many.
Sure, he could understand a couple. But more than a dozen for a building this small? That was just strange. Then again, maybe different people who visited this place liked maid uniforms. It was a possibility.
It was just then that he heard a noise coming from the rather large box next to him. It was a wooden crate that stood about as tall as a man. Sounds of someone’s footsteps came from the tall thing.
Climb hid behind the closet as two people came from the box. The front wall of the crate broke away, and they came from there. It was strange, how the two of them could fit in there.
One of them had a green cloak on. His face was scarred by who knows what, and on his hip was a sheathed sword. Behind him was a man that wore a good amount of makeup. He also wore a corset for some reason, and had a fair amount of his chest exposed. Climb could only assume that the man who looked like Coco Doll was supposed to be Coco Doll, one of the leaders of eight fingers.
“I told you that the back entrance wouldn’t be covered by whoever that is,” the makeup covered man said, his voice whiny.
“It just doesn’t make any sense why they wouldn’t,” the other man said, “also, that is Calvaria, the woman who’s attacking us is a Adamantite ranked adventurer.”
It was then that Climb decided that this was the perfect time to attack. After all, the two of them were distracted. He could attack from behind.
He rushed out, his blade coming out of its sheath as he did so. Coco Doll flinched and stumbled to the side. This lead his guard to be exposed in the back. Yet, as Climb was just about to stab him in the back, he twirled around and blocked the blow with his sword.
He stepped off to the side and Climb made his way to exit to the room, the door he had come in. He then had a plan. He stepped slightly backward and yelled at the top of his lungs. His voice echoed out to way they came in.
“I need help, someone’s here!” he screamed, the doorway echoing as he did so.
The other two people in the room flinched at the sound of his voice. With the guard or whoever he was supposed to be scowling, while the six arms leader cowered. Climb smirked internally at this. His plan was simple. Trick them into thinking that there was people the way they wanted to leave.
“It looks like there’s people that way. we have to go upstairs,” the guard said as he glanced at Coco Doll, and he nodded his head in response; he then turned to Climb and spoke, “I would like to play with you a bit more, but I think that I’ll have to kill you right away,” he said.
He dashed forth, trying to get an overhead slash in. Climb tried to parry the blow, but his blade fizzled through the sword as if it wasn’t there. Pain then roared across his right arm as he took a step to the left.
Climb brought his sword low and parallel to his body, and went for an under hand swipe, yet as his opponent went for a block, he feinted and whipped his sword backward and went for an overhead swing once more. The blow was blocked, but a panicked look came across his foe’s face.
“You’re Succulent, one of the six arms,” Climb said in realization, “your thing is illusions. Your whole right arm is one!” he said.
“That’s right. I’ve learned some illusion magic and while it has made me weak in both, the versatility is rather nice,” he said while hefting his blade, “Yet, I ask you this. can you tell the difference. The difference between fact and illusion?!” he yelled out and charged.
Climb lowered his sword low and led a block with the blade near his hilt. The sword that Succulent brought forth passed through his hilt. Then Climb flicked the point of his blade forward. Succulent backpedaled. His face marred by more than scars. A scowl engraved on his ugly face.
“Alright kid, I’m done playing!” he said for a second time.
“Oh? Here I was thinking I get to watch the rest of this bout,” A feminine voice rung out, it was Calvaria’s.
