Chapter 233: The Same Truth
Gloria stayed wrapped in his arms for several long seconds after that confession about Manny.
Quiet.
Fragile.
Then she looked up at him carefully.
"You've changed."
Not physically.
Emotionally.
Before, so much of their relationship had existed inside hesitation:
stolen moments,
careful restraint,
unspoken truths.
Now he looked at her like someone who had stopped apologizing for loving too much.
Then Gael spoke softly.
"I already said this to Claire."
Gloria's expression shifted slightly at the name.
Not jealousy.
Recognition.
Then he continued:
"And I need to say it to you too."
The seriousness in his voice made her chest tighten immediately.
Then quietly:
"I love you."
Gloria closed her eyes briefly.
Even now, hearing it aloud still overwhelmed her.
Then he continued before emotion could swallow the conversation completely.
"But I still love Haley."
Immediate honesty.
"And Claire."
Another truth.
Then softer:
"And now also Alex."
Gloria's eyes opened immediately.
Shock crossed her face.
"Alex?"
The disbelief sounded almost identical to Claire's earlier reaction.
Gael nodded slowly.
"Alex and I were always close but she was the one who supported me through everything after it all collapsed." A small pause. "And somewhere along the way, I fell deeply in love with her too."
The room fell silent.
Because suddenly Gloria understood the gravity of what this had become.
Not affairs anymore.
Not confusion.
A network of real love tangled through people already deeply connected.
Then Gloria whispered softly:
"Oh my God."
Not judgment.
Scale.
Then Gael stepped closer again.
"I'm telling you because I'm done hiding parts of the truth from the people I love."
The sentence settled deeply into the room.
No more compartmentalization.
No more selective honesty.
Then he continued carefully:
"And I'm going to do everything in my power to be with all of you honestly instead of secretly destroying ourselves."
Gloria stared at him quietly.
Because somehow the terrifying thing was that she believed he meant it completely.
Then he brushed gently along her cheek.
"And I know you still love Jay."
That hit immediately.
Because yes.
She did.
Jay's kindness.
His stability.
Their family.
None of that disappeared just because she loved someone else too.
Then Gael spoke softly:
"I'm not blaming you for that."
The relief that moved through her at those words nearly hurt.
Because guilt had consumed her for so long that hearing someone acknowledge her love for Jay without demanding purity felt overwhelming.
Then quieter:
"I'm not asking you to stop loving anyone."
Gloria looked away briefly, visibly emotional now.
"You make this sound so simple."
"No." His voice stayed calm. "I make it sound honest."
Then he gave her the choice directly.
"If you ever want this openly…" He held her gaze steadily. "I'll stand beside you publicly."
Her breath caught sharply.
Because suddenly the fantasy became real enough to frighten her.
Then he continued:
"And if you can't…" A small pause. "We keep this private from everyone except the women I love." Immediate honesty again. "Because I'm done lying to them."
Haley.
Claire.
Alex.
The structure around them suddenly felt startlingly deliberate now.
Then he finished quietly:
"From now on, every relationship I have will be built on trust and honesty."
The conviction in his voice shook her deeply.
Because for the first time since all this began—
someone was offering her a future instead of just guilt.
Messy.
Impossible.
Potentially catastrophic.
But real.
Then Gloria whispered shakily:
"You really think people can survive loving like this?"
Gael answered immediately.
"Yes."
And standing there in the quiet house while sunlight spilled softly across the floor—
Gloria realized part of her wanted desperately to believe him.
