Chapter 860: Inherit (II)
As for what they would do, Bai Meiyue would think about it later.
Bai Jixuan nodded and was about to support his sister back to the mansion when they suddenly heard a burst of cheers. Startled, the two of them turned to look behind them. They thought that there was another attack, which made them worry, but when they looked down at the base of the wall, they only noticed a bunch of survivors jumping up and down.
It seemed like they were quite exhilarated after surviving!
Bai Meiyue stared at them for a while and then said to her brother, "Ask someone to throw a few chicken leg and mashed potato packages to these survivors. They worked hard as well." Even though they were not much help, Bai Meiyue did not want them to become warriors at once; it was good enough that they could fight alongside her and not drag her down waiting for her to protect them.
This alone was enough to make Bai Meiyue look at them with a good face.
"Sure," Xiao Wu agreed. He had to admit that these people were not without virtues; even though they were fooled by Captain Xu, they still had some good values instilled in them. At least they might be able to change for the better.
Soon, boxes of chicken legs with mashed potatoes and rice were thrown out of the safe base and handed to Jiang Yang. When he saw the food boxes, Jiang Yang could not help but turn a little emotional. It seemed like he was really wrong. Even though Bai Meiyue was not the kind of woman who would treat them with extra kindness just because they were weak and unable to support themselves, she was also not the kind of woman who would abandon those who wanted to survive.
These boxes of food were enough to prove that!
"Everyone, you saw how kind Miss Bai is to us. From now on, please remember this day for the rest of your life. Even if she is cold-hearted, it’s because we’re the ones who broke her heart in the first place. But she is still willing to give us a chance to survive, so from now on, don’t listen to the foolish words of those treacherous people and don’t go against Bai Meiyue. His words hit the hearts of the people in the crowd. Indeed, even if they were not ability users, they were hard workers. For the sake of staying with Captain Xu, they had lowered their heads and even taken on a bunch of loads to help him. But that man actually abandoned them, and that was not all; he even ignored their lives and brought those human-faced spiders to the safe base. He did not even care what might happen to them if he did such a thing.
Such a terrible leader was way worse than Bai Meiyue in more than just one way.
If they followed someone like Captain Xu, then sooner or later they would be killed by him. It was better to be under the wings of Bai Meiyue. Even if the woman was harsh and did not give them a day off, she was not like Captain Xu, who only knew how to speak kind and sweet words but when it came down to doing something for his people, he would actually turn around and run faster than them, weak survivors.
"Jiang Yang is right. Miss Bai might be harsh on us, but in the end, she is only looking after us. Today we were able to fend off those things because we had been working hard in the safe base. In the past, I could not even run past two metres, but today I was able to keep up for a long time. This alone proves that Miss Bai only wanted the best for us. Even if we cannot win, we can at least run away from monsters!" said Fatty Wang. Though he was no longer as fat as he used to be in the past, that was how everyone knew him.
The rest of the survivors also agreed. Without Bai Meiyue, they would not have survived past the night; it was all thanks to her that they somehow managed to live tonight.
"Alright, enough with the emotional talk. We should have our dinner and go to bed. Since we know that the key to acceptance is hard work, we should also start working hard as soon as possible. Maybe Miss Bai will be able to forgive us and realise that we have seriously repented." One of the women chimed in.
Hearing this, everyone murmured in agreement and then started to eat their dinner.
On the other side, Bai Zhan was studying the human-faced spider with a look of pondering on his face; even though he was standing on the watchtower, his eyes never left the heads of those human-faced spiders.
"What are you thinking?" Doctor Chou asked while looking at the bunch of human-faced spiders that were scattered all over the place. He too came to see what was going on because the hustle and bustle was too loud just a few hours ago.
"I was thinking if I can inherit the properties of these human faced spiders."
