Chapter 857: Fight To Survive
Looking at the monsters that were getting closer and closer to the safe base, Bai Meiyue turned to look at the guards and commanded, "Aim for their heads. Don’t waste the ammunition by attacking anywhere else."
"Easy for you to say, Boss!" Xiao Wu loaded the bazooka. He looked at the tiny human-faced spiders and did not know what to say to Bai Meiyue. How were they supposed to aim for the heads of these tiny things? What was more, those spindly legs were not even strong enough to carry the human heads! Those things were lolling left and right, quite terrifyingly.
How were they going to shoot these damned things down?
Bai Meiyue also knew that the chances were slim, but they could not allow these things to get inside the safe base; she was worried that if they suddenly barged inside the safe base, even if they might not be able to do much damage, they might end up turning a few people into zombies. After all, these human-faced spiders were levelled-up versions of those zombies who were killed but not burnt.
Their bites were just as dangerous as the bites of the zombies.
This was the reason it was hard to deal with human-faced spiders. Not only were they small, but they were really a hard nut to crack. Bai Meiyue pursed her lips and said in a low voice, "Just try to push them back as much as possible even if you cannot kill them."
Since they were in this situation, they could only think of a way to push these things back. That was the only way to deal with them.
"Can’t you kill them?" Bai Jixuan asked when he saw that those things seemed a little hard to kill. Bai Jixuan did not understand the evaluation of these monsters and had no idea how to kill them. In his mind, if there was something that they had no idea about, Bai Meiyue would definitely know how to deal with these things. So he could not help but hope for the best while looking at Bai Meiyue.
Bai Meiyue did not reply; instead, she was looking at the human-faced spiders with a focused look in her eyes. It seemed like she was lost in some sort of thought.
She summoned an ice discus and then hurled it at the human-faced spider; her aim was better than the rest. The discus rose in the air, and a second later, it started to spin faster and faster. Soon, it started to spin so fast that only its shadow was left behind. Bai Meiyue controlled the discus and then aimed it at one of the human-faced spiders.
However, just as she had expected, as soon as the discus attacked the human-shaped spider, it shattered into pieces, and only a little mark was left on the head of the spider.
Looking at this, Bai Meiyue sighed heavily. "I knew it. They have developed a defence mechanism to protect themselves. The skin of these human-shaped spiders has hardened due to the mutations."
Look at this: even though she was a high-level ability user, she could only make a small cut on the skin of the human-shaped spider. This kind of defensive ability could only be dealt with by a high-ranking fire ability user; it was a shame that Lei Qian was unconscious, or else he could have dealt with these human-shaped spiders with ease.
Just as she was worrying about her next step, a bunch of fiery arrows shot past her.
Bang!
Bai Jixuan, who noticed what was happening, pulled Bai Meiyue to one side and turned to look at Meng Suisui with a hint of a frown on his face. "Watch it; you could have hurt Yueyue."
"Sorry." Meng Suisui apologised with a little wince. "I did not expect those arrows to lose control so suddenly; this is my first time using this skill."
Bai Meiyue looked at the flames that were scattered all over the ground and noticed that they were different from the usual flames.
"This..."
"This is my new skill." Meng Suisui explained in a calm voice. "Hell’s fire. It’s different from the usual fire...and can destroy anything it touches without leaving any fragment behind."
Bai Meiyue stared at the dark ink-like flames that had destroyed a good faction of the human-shaped spiders.
"Good work, keep working—"
She was still speaking when something dashed past her in the air. Locks of hair fluttered around and then stuck to her face. Startled, she spat out a bunch of strands from her hair and then turned to look in the direction in which the thing shot.
"I am going to kill you!"
Bai Meiyue: "..."
She looked at Meng Guo, who was flying in the air like a superhero, and did not know what happened. What was this? Don’t tell her that this little one awakened his powers and that too at such a shocking time. She narrowed her eyes and focused on the spot that was getting closer and closer to the crowd of the human-faced spiders.
"Get back here!"
Bai Meiyue shouted anxiously when she saw that it was really Meng Guo. If she was not wrong, Meng Guo should be with his mother. Why was he here, and who brought him here?
"That...boy, he looks like Meng Guo." Bai Jixuan did not see the person clearly, and it was only when the child stopped for a second that he sensed that the side profile of this boy looked like Meng Guo.
"That’s because he is Meng Guo!" Bai Meiyue snapped in a panicked voice.
"Guoguo! Guoguo! Come back here!" Jiang Haidai’s voice sounded behind her, and Bai Meiyue turned to look at the woman who came running up the watchtower. "Guoguo!"
"What’s going on?" Bai Meiyue asked when she saw Jiang Haidai.
Jiang Haidai wrung her hands together. "I have no idea. We were just having dinner when someone came running and told us that teh safe base was under attack, and then Guoguo ran out...Before I knew it, he was flying in the air and so fast that I couldn’t even see him!"
