Chapter 780: Let Us In!
When Old Madam Lei heard the words of the man, she was so angry that she wanted to faint. How dare this man say such things? Did he even know who she was? How dare he treat her like this?
"Mom, calm down." Second Uncle Lei stopped his mother when he saw that she was about to lose her temper with the man. He pulled her back and did not let his mother act crazy in front of others. It was bad enough that they had no backing in Yu Miaomiao’s base where they went hoping to get good jobs, but because they failed in getting Lei Qian to follow them and come to save them, Yu Miaomiao even abandoned them, letting them be bullied left and right by others.
Now Second Uncle Lei had understood his situation very well. If they wanted to live comfortably, then they needed to rely on Lei Qian. without that man taking care of them, there was no way anyone would be willing to take care of him or his family. The only way they could get a place in this world was by following someone who was powerful and skilled enough to take care of the zombies.
Neither of them had awakened as powerful supernatural ability users. Without powers they were like little beggars who had nothing in this world. They could only lower their heads and let everyone bully them. Since that was the case, then they might as well stay put for the time being and follow Lei Qian and his family. Without them they might not even get enough to eat!
Old Madam Lei was furious. She had never suffered like this before. She hadn’t eaten for more than three days, and her body was covered in dirt and muck. There was not a single spot in her body that was not dirty. She wanted to wash and lie down in a comfortable bed. When she heard that Bai Meiyue had arranged for the rescue operation, she thought that the woman had developed a heart and would let them stay in her base but she underestimated the ruthlessness of that woman.
She asked those men to drop them outside the safe base and refused to let them come inside. How could this be considered as helping? This was similar to taking them off the hot pan and dropping them in the centre of the raging volcano!
How would they even survive in this world without someone taking care of them? What was Bai Meiyue even thinking? Were they trying to kill their entire family?
"Then what do you want me to do?" Old Madam Lei flung the hand of her second son and scolded him fiercely. "Do you not feel ashamed? Your old mother is following you and yet you cannot even feed me every day. Do you wish to see me die? Why can’t you see that I am doing this for all of us? If you had taken care of me, would I have to fight to death like this?"
Old Madam Lei did not want to lose her temper at her precious son. But she was tired of living like this; there was no end to her suffering. Every day she had to wake up on an empty stomach and she did not even have the chance to drink clean water. This was way worse than how she used to live when she was following the old man. At least with Lei Qian she could get fresh meals and water even if that unfilial grandson did not care about her but after she followed her son, she did not even get a chance to live a day in peace!
Every day when she woke up, she would worry about how she would survive the day and whether she would get clean water to drink or not. These days, Old Madam Lei was living the worst days of her life and did not want to continue living like this anymore.
When Second Uncle Lei heard the words of his mother, he was so embarrassed that he wanted to say something but did not know where to begin. Beside him, Lei Wu’s eyes darkened as he listened to the scolding of his grandmother; he was furious but he dared not to say a word. Because how dare he! When he left the safe base, he was confident that he would be able to find a new position and place to stay but soon he realised that those were nothing but just pipe dreams.
He realised that without awakening he was nothing but a small dodder flower that could be squashed to death at any moment. Lei Wu could not accept this and wanted to fight for his chance at life but unfortunately, he could not because there was nothing that he could fight for. Awakening was not something that he could do just because he wanted to. This was the first time he felt helpless and the way the people mocked him...it made him simply furious to the point that he wished he could kill those people who were mocking him but he couldn’t because he had no strength!
And that was not all. He was even mocked by his own grandmother. This old hag was evil and selfish. These years she kept telling him that she loved him the most but the second something went wrong, she ended up blaming him. If she loved them, then she should have loved him no matter what the situation was. But she was clearly blaming him. why? Why should he be blamed for something that was out of his control!?
Lei Wu clenched his fingers tightly. In the future, as long as he could awaken, he would deal with this woman first. He would make her suffer a death much worse than the humiliation that he had to suffer.
"Mom, it’s not that I don’t want to take care of you but my hands are tied. What can I do?" Second Uncle Lei sighed softly. It wasn’t that he was deliberately making trouble!
