Chapter 779: The Second Branch Is Here
"Should we run?" someone in the team suggested. When Bai Meiyue heard his suggestion, she shook her head and pinched the space between her brows. It was not that she did not want to run or that she was scared to run but the situation did not allow her to! Lei Qian was injured and the reproduction capability of the mutated bugs was just too strong; even if they tried to run away from this place, they might never be able to escape the mutated bug wave.
"Run away? Have you lost your mind?" Xiao Wu was first to bang his fist on the table and said angrily, "How can we run away? Have you forgotten how many pregnant women, children and elderly we have? If we run away, who is going to take care of those people? We are not like Yu Miaomiao and Dacheng, who just abandoned these survivors and left on their own. They even sent more than fifty pregnant women to our base as if we have the responsibility to raise them. Who do they think they are!?"
Mother Bai also shook her head and stated her stance, "He is right, we are not alone. We have people we need to take care of. There is also Yueyue. She is pregnant and her child is going to be born any day now. If we leave now and she is tossed around, what would happen if she gives birth in between? How will we arrange everything? We can’t even be sure that Yueyue would be able to have the child on her own!" what if she needed a c-section. What would happen then?
They had already taken root in this place; they had greenhouses, farms and fields with warehouses that were filled with grains and seafood. If they moved now, then they would have to move the entire base with them. The crops, the medical supplies, the old and the young...how could they take care of everything in such a short while? It was nearly impossible.
"Alright, there is no need to think too much," Bai Meiyue raised her voice and ended the quarrel. "It seems like we cannot move for the time being. Since we cannot move, we can only arrange for the defences to get stronger. No one is allowed to leave or enter the base, no matter who this person is. Even if they beg and create a fuss, don’t let them in. Secondly, everyone should start putting up defences. Brother Zhan, Brother Jixuan, I will leave this matter to you and the rest of the team. Lastly, " She sucked in a breath and added, "I am sure that everyone knows that Master Lei is injured and needs a lot of rest. Since that is the case, the Lei family will soon be in trouble, which means that those from the Lei family will soon come looking for them. Try your best to hold them off and don’t let them sneak inside."
Bai Meiyue arranged everything neatly; she did not want anyone to cause trouble for Lei Qian but at the same time she knew that Lei Wu must have left a few spies in this base. He was such a despicable person who wanted to step on Lei Qian’s head. How could he let such an opportunity go? What was more, she knew that such a twisted person would definitely come after her as well.
Since she was carrying Lei Qian’s child, what would be a bigger blow to Lei Qian than his cousin ruining her?
Bai Meiyue did not want to get involved in the fight between two brothers but it seemed like she was destined to not have peace.
She then turned to look at the rest of the team and frowned when she did not see Shen Zhen and Lu Yu. at first she thought that they were skiving off the meeting but then she recalled that Shen Zhen had been feeling a bit under the weather the last few days. Since she returned, she must have taken the pregnancy test. It was not a surprise that the two of them went missing.
Bai Meiyue sighed helplessly. She understood that she couldn’t rely on Lu Yu for the time being so she turned her attention to Wan Guofu and said to him, "Keep an eye on things. Don’t let anyone disrupt the peace at the mansion where the Lei family lives."
Wan Guofu nodded at once. He did not like Lei Wu and the people from the second branch as well; if he was not wrong, then they must be in the team of survivors from Bai Feng’s team.
Wan Guofu was indeed right. Lei Wu and the rest of the second branch, including Grandma Lei, were with Bai Feng. It had to be said that they caused quite a fuss before they were sent to the rescue operation with the rest of the survivors. At first they thought that they would be taken to Bai Meiyue’s base, from where they would insist that the Lei family start taking care of them again but as soon as the helicopter came to a stop, they realised that they were left at the outer region of the base where Bai Meiyue and Lei Qian lived.
How could Grandma Lei even accept this? She even turned to look at the rest of the survivors before turning to the person who brought her there. "Are you sure this is the correct place? Should you have not let us inside the base?"
The person in charge of flying the helicopter sneered when he heard the question of the old woman. He rolled his eyes at her and then said, "What do you mean by ’that you should be taken inside’? This is how far we are going to help you. We promised Master Bai that we would bring you out of the affected region and we have upheld our promise. What else do you want?"
"From here on out, you have to survive on your own!"
