Chapter 82: Plans Can’t Keep Up With Change
The only one still conflicted was Victini.
Well, to be precise, Vee wasn't actually that conflicted.
Rather, Sora felt a little guilty toward her.
Eindoak.
That was the city where Sora had lived for more than a year.
Saying he had no feelings for it would obviously be a lie.
However, compared to the Azoth capital, Eindoak was closer to a small town.
Its population was sparse.
The entire settlement only had three to four hundred people.
Eindoak was surrounded by towering mountains.
Beyond them stretched endless wastelands and deserts.
Logically speaking, with Victini's abilities, she could carry out large-scale environmental restoration, turning deserts and barren land into fertile soil and reviving dead ecosystems.
This was something Sora planned to bring Victini back to do someday.
Just like how Volcanion wanted to grow stronger to protect Magearna—
Sora also intended to raise Victini to a higher level first, then rapidly heal the barren homeland of the People of the Vale in one massive effort.
But the problem lay exactly there.
"There are too many disputes surrounding Eindoak."
The nearest issue was Reshiram and Zekrom.
Then there were the claims made by the People of the Vale.
Sora genuinely didn't want to get dragged into such troublesome conflicts.
Besides, Unova was just too… free.
The real-world inspiration for Unova was New York in the United States.
And, well—
when it came to America, any kind of bizarre situation felt understandable.
Team Plasma was currently carrying out its "Pokémon liberation movement," leaving Sora utterly speechless.
All kinds of factions, organizations, ideologies, and political narratives.
If Unova wasn't overflowing with lunatics, then it was at least crawling with troublemakers.
In summary: a complete headache.
Sora was honestly afraid.
What if one day, after he painstakingly built up his territory, Unova suddenly came up with "97 genders" or some nonsense like that?
He felt like he'd explode on the spot.
Compared to that, Kalos was incredibly peaceful.
At the very least, Sora could use force to directly suppress anyone who refused to cooperate.
"Unova really won't work."
"And after staying in Eindoak for so long, neither the Black Dragon nor the White Dragon ever spoke to me…"
Thinking of this, Sora felt somewhat disappointed.
But even more than disappointment, he felt relieved.
Well, regardless—
he didn't really need those two dragons anymore anyway.
Yesterday you ignored me. Today I'm beyond your reach.
Now possessing Ogerpon, Volcanion, Victini, and Magearna, Sora proudly declared:
"I don't need you two anymore!"
"So then… what about the other regions?"
Reviewing all the Pokémon regions he knew—
Kanto and Johto were effectively one entity.
That place was the birthplace of the League.
There was basically no unused land available for Sora to develop and settle.
Well, the main issue was still money.
The cost of leasing land there was far beyond what current Sora could afford.
Then came Hoenn and Sinnoh.
The former had limited development potential.
The latter was simply too dangerous.
Dialga.
Palkia.
And Arceus's avatars.
Going to provoke Sinnoh?
What a joke.
You couldn't even catch the Creation Trio anyway, so what was the point in fighting them?
And besides, Sinnoh suffered from the same issue as Kanto.
Sora simply couldn't find any unclaimed territory suitable for development.
And by "unclaimed territory," he meant areas not already protected by powerful Trainers.
Aside from the main cities and Gym territories, trying to develop elsewhere would just leave him trapped and constrained.
No need to mention Unova again.
Kalos was currently his top candidate.
"And Kimia's willing to fund it…"
Sora admitted—he was genuinely tempted.
After all, who didn't dream of being supported by a rich beauty at least once?
That left Alola, Galar, and Paldea.
"Alola…"
Ignoring the games for a moment, in reality it was practically a remote backwater.
Most importantly, Professor Kukui was still running around trying to establish the Alola League.
A region without an official League yet—what was Sora supposed to do there?
Fight island kahunas and Ultra Beasts for territory?
As for Galar, the whole place revolved around competitive rankings every single day.
Sora had zero interest in joining that kind of endless grind culture.
Hard pass.
"Paldea…"
Originally, Sora's plan had been to establish his foundation in the Paldea region.
Chairwoman Geeta was desperately searching for talent.
If Sora went there, she would probably welcome him barefoot and treat him like an honored guest.
Today I have gained Sora—my wings are complete!
Geeta: "The revitalization of Paldea begins today!"
Another advantage of Paldea was the sheer abundance of available land.
Outside of the major cities with Gyms, the wilderness stretched endlessly.
If Sora went there, Geeta would probably establish an entirely new Gym around him overnight.
And honestly?
That Glimmora woman absolutely wouldn't let such a perfect public image go to waste.
She would definitely promote him heavily.
More importantly, Sora already understood the structure of the Paldea League very well.
Geeta was not only Top Champion but also the League Chairwoman.
He already had a decent understanding of what kind of person she was.
And the personalities of the Elite Four.
Thanks to the games, Sora felt confident he could get along with them smoothly.
Unlike other regions—
where Champions and Elite Four mainly served as military power, while the actual administration was controlled by elderly politicians behind the scenes.
In that regard, Paldea was much more appealing than the unfamiliar Kalos League.
Unfortunately—
plans could never keep up with reality.
Before Sora even reached Paldea, he had already arrived in Kalos.
Already come to the Nebel Plateau.
"Kalos… or Paldea…"
If forced to choose between the two, Sora still leaned slightly toward Paldea.
It offered greater freedom.
But Nebel Plateau wasn't bad either.
The Azoth Kingdom possessed autonomous authority.
And Nebel Plateau belonged to the Azoth Kingdom.
In other words—
if Sora developed the plateau, the League couldn't interfere at all.
All Sora needed to answer was Kimia and the Azoth royal family.
To put it bluntly—
with Sora's current strength, if he really wanted to, he could overthrow and control the Azoth Kingdom in minutes.
Kick Raleigh out first.
Then win over Kimia.
Once they had children, the title of King of Azoth could easily fall into Sora's hands.
"…Now that I think about it, doesn't this somehow sound even freer than Paldea?"
Although Sora and Kimia hadn't known each other long, their relationship had warmed rapidly.
By now, they had already become close friends who could talk about anything.
If he went to Paldea, Geeta might very well indirectly saddle him with responsibilities and turn him into another overworked salaryman like Larry.
But in the Azoth Kingdom?
Sora felt he could actually influence Kimia and the others instead.
"So in the end… it still depends on Victini's feelings…"
Thinking this, Sora shared all of his thoughts with Victini.
