Chapter 87: Vault of the First Sin
They moved like a localized eclipse through the pristine halls of heaven’s library.
Elara’s Ward of Silence—a shimmering, radioactive violet dome of alchemical static—moved perfectly in sync with Kaelen’s heavy, measured strides. Outside the dome, the Sphere of Knowledge was a bustling, silent metropolis of absolute mathematical order. Hundreds of faceless Seraphs of Logic drifted past them on staircases of solid blue mana, their geometric bodies whirring as they calculated the fates of distant mortal kingdoms.
None of them noticed the Abyssal Emperor walking inches from their floating shoulders.
"The ambient leyline web here is so rigidly structured," Elara whispered, clutching the stolen, glowing blue logic cores to her chest. "They don’t use magic to bend reality, Master. They use it to enforce boundaries. Everything in this dimension is heavily categorized. If a thought doesn’t fit the Goddess’s equation, it is instantly deleted."
"Then it is a good thing we are not a thought, Elara," he rumbled smoothly. "We are a consequence."
Seraphina stalked directly behind Kaelen, her massive Eclipse Breaker gripped tightly in both hands. The Vanguard’s corrupted golden eyes darted aggressively from passing Seraph to passing Seraph.
"I could cleave that one’s core before it even registered a drop in ambient pressure," she hissed, her bloodlust barely contained. "Just one, Master. Let me test the edge of my blade against their mathematics."
"Patience, Seraphina," he ordered, not looking back. "You will have an entire dimension to slaughter soon enough. But if you break the stealth ward now, the central logic star will seal the Vault of the First Sin before we can turn the handle. Hold your hunger."
She shivered, the heavy, intoxicating authority in Kaelen’s voice forcing her to submissively bow her head. "Yes, my Sovereign."
Elara guided them away from the bustling, crystalline bridges of Sector 404, leading them down a narrow, spiraling descent of floating glass platforms. The deeper they went, the darker the ambient light became. The pristine, cold blue mana illuminating the upper tiers began to fade, replaced by a heavy, stagnant gloom.
The perfect geometry of the Archive began to physically break down. The floating glass platforms were cracked. The blue mana streams flickered and hissed like dying embers.
They reached the absolute bottom of the sector.
There was no grand, silver gateway. There was only a massive, unadorned door set into the foundation of a colossal crystalline pillar. The door was completely alien to the rest of the Sphere. It was not made of shifting polygons or solid light; it was made of petrified, rotting gray wood, bound in heavy, rusted iron.
"We are here, Master," Elara breathed, stopping at the edge of the platform. "The localized leyline ends right at that threshold. Whatever is behind that door is completely disconnected from the Goddess’s network. She intentionally amputated it from the rest of the realm."
He stepped up to the massive wooden door. There was no handle. There was no keyhole.
Carved into the center of the rotting wood was a single, glowing inscription written in the primordial, foundational tongue of the gods.
"Can you translate it, Elara?" he asked.
Elara’s emerald eyes flared as she rapidly cross-referenced the stolen logic cores. "It is a conceptual lock, Emperor. The inscription reads: ’Only a mind devoid of contradiction may witness the origin. Speak thy truth, and let the scales of logic weigh thy soul.’"
"A riddle?" Seraphina scoffed, stepping up beside him. "I hate riddles." She raised her heavy, dragon-glass gauntlet and violently punched the center of the wooden door.
THUD.
The kinetic impact, which possessed enough raw force to shatter a mountain, was instantly, perfectly absorbed by the wood. The door didn’t even splinter.
Instead, the primordial inscription flared with blinding, hostile golden light.
[WARNING: Hostile Conceptual Ward Triggered.]
[Initiating localized Paradox Scan.]
A heavy, suffocating weight violently slammed down onto the platform. It wasn’t physical gravity; it was a conceptual pressure. The door was actively scanning their minds, forcibly parsing their intentions, their histories, and their loyalties.
"Master!" Elara gasped, dropping to her knees as the holy pressure aggressively spiked. "It’s a localized Truth-Engine! It’s weighing our existence against the absolute laws of the Goddess! If it finds a single contradiction—a single drop of heresy—it will mathematically erase the space we are standing in!"
Seraphina gritted her teeth, her Eclipse Aura violently flaring as she tried to physically muscle through a mental attack. "Let it try! I will shatter the space before it can!"
"Stand down, Seraphina," he commanded, his voice a low, heavy rumble that effortlessly cut through the rising panic.
The Emperor did not drop to his knees. The conceptual pressure of the Goddess’s absolute truth pressed against him, trying to crush his mind. He simply closed his eyes and allowed the ward to look inside him.
The door sought order. It sought obedience. It sought a mind devoid of contradiction.
He gave it the Abyss.
He didn’t just resist the scan; he forcefully inverted the connection. He tapped directly into his God-Eater core and unleashed the absolute, bottomless hunger of the Labyrinth into the door’s logic engine.
He fed it the paradox of his own existence. He was a mortal who possessed the gravity of a god. He was an Emperor without a celestial throne. He was the localized end of all things, standing in the library of eternity.
The golden light of the inscription began to violently, aggressively violently flicker.
[Paradox Scan: Error.]
[Target Entity: Incalculable.]
[Logic Core Overload in progress...]
"You are trying to weigh a black hole on a grocer’s scale," he whispered, placing his calloused palm directly against the glowing inscription. "Calculate this."
He pushed.
The hyper-dense void mana flooded into the ancient, petrified wood. The door let out a harrowing, mechanical shriek as its foundational logic was aggressively, violently unwritten by Kaelen’s absolute ambition. The concept of "truth" was forcefully digested by the concept of "hunger."
With a deafening crack that echoed like a dying breath, the rusted iron bindings shattered. The glowing golden inscription instantly rotted into black ash.
[Hostile Conceptual Ward Destroyed. +12,000,000 EXP.]
[The Vault of the First Sin has been unsealed.]
The massive wooden doors slowly groaned inward, opening into absolute, suffocating darkness.
The sterile, ozone smell of the Archive was instantly replaced by a wave of cold, stagnant air. It smelled like ancient dust, dried blood, and something deeply, profoundly organic. It did not smell like a divine library. It smelled like a tomb.
Seraphina inhaled deeply, the tension leaving her shoulders as a deeply manic, bloodthirsty smile returned to her face. "Now that smells much better."
"Elara," he ordered, peering into the pitch-black descent. "Maintain the silence ward at the entrance. Anchor it to the doorframe. If the Seraphs notice the lock is broken, I want them entirely blind to who broke it."
"Yes, my Demigod!" Elara chirped, slamming her void-diamond rods into the stone threshold, effectively capping the entrance with her alchemical static.
He stepped over the threshold, his heavy Void-Steel boots echoing into the cavernous depths below. Seraphina and Elara followed closely behind, the Eclipse Breaker igniting with a low, roaring black flame to light their path.
The pristine, mathematical illusion of the Goddess was officially behind them. They were stepping into the dark, hidden root of heaven’s history, and he intended to rip it out by the stem.
