Chapter 68: Arbiter’s Despair
The golden shards of the shattered scales rained down upon the pristine marble courtyard, clattering like broken glass.
High Arbiter Cassius stared at his empty hand, the glowing metal blindfold fused to his face twitching as the conceptual backlash of his broken Domain of Absolute Verdict ravaged his internal celestial pathways. He was a Level 115 Celestial Judge. For ten thousand years, he had weighed the souls of warlords, kings, and rogue demons.
None of them had ever broken the scales.
"What... what are you?" Cassius whispered, his voice trembling with a terrifying mix of awe and primal dread. "You are not a mortal ascending. You are a localized collapse of reality."
"I am the Emperor," Kaelen corrected smoothly, the heavy, intoxicating gravity of his Level 105 core passively crushing the ambient light around him. "And you are in my way."
He didn’t draw a weapon. He simply stepped forward and threw a right hook.
It was a brutally simple, mortal motion, but empowered by the hyper-dense void mana of the God-Eater authority, it was a cataclysm.
Cassius instinctively raised his heavy, white-gold gauntlets to block. When Kaelen’s fist connected, the kinetic shockwave actively shattered the sound barrier, sending a visible ripple of distorted gravity across the entire courtyard. Cassius, a twelve-foot-tall angel encased in star-metal, was violently launched backward like a cannonball.
He crashed through three massive pillars of woven light before slamming into the steps of the central citadel, completely cratering the holy stone.
[Combat Log: Kinetic Void Strike successful. Celestial Armor integrity reduced by 40%.]
"Master!" Seraphina called out, effortlessly decapitating a charging Zealot with her Eclipse Breaker. "Shall I pursue him and sever his core?"
"Hold the perimeter, Vanguard," he commanded, casually rolling his shoulders as he walked toward the ruined steps of the citadel. "Let the Brutes handle the infantry. Cassius is mine."
Across the courtyard, the hundred thousand Void-iron Brutes were a mechanized nightmare. Cloaked by Elara’s entropic frequency, the Third Choir’s magic simply slid off their heavy armor. The Inquisitors were being slaughtered, their pristine white-gold ranks rapidly turning into a chaotic, blood-soaked melee.
From the rubble of the citadel steps, a blinding pillar of holy fire violently erupted.
Cassius rose, his armor cracked and leaking golden plasma. The Arbiter’s desperation had completely overridden his composure. He reached his massive hand into the pillar of fire and forcefully withdrew a colossal, two-handed war-hammer forged from pure, hyper-compressed starlight.
"I will not let a shadow consume this Sphere!" Cassius roared, his voice amplified by the frantic, burning devotion of his fading core.
"Absolute Execution!"
Cassius didn’t swing the hammer at Kaelen; he slammed it directly into the ground.
A massive, localized fissure of volatile holy plasma tore through the courtyard, racing directly toward the Abyssal Demigod. The ground actively screamed as the conceptual attack attempted to forcefully unwrite Kaelen’s physical coordinates.
He stopped walking. He raised his right boot and stomped heavily onto the approaching fissure.
The hyper-dense, terrifying void mana of his Imperial Suppression aggressively flooded into the cracks. The black energy collided with the holy plasma, generating a deafening hiss of conceptual static. Kaelen’s absolute ambition violently choked out the Arbiter’s light, turning the world-ending spell into a harmless puff of gray ash beneath his heel.
"You fight like a bureaucrat," he mocked, a dark, predatory smirk playing on his lips. "You rely on your desk and your gavel. You have forgotten how to bleed."
He vanished.
He didn’t use teleportation magic; his physical speed had simply transcended the processing power of the celestial dimension. He reappeared instantly in the air above Cassius, his heavy Void-Steel boot driving downward in an agonizing axe-kick.
Cassius barely brought the haft of his starlight hammer up to block.
CRACK.
Kaelen’s boot struck the hammer, the sheer kinetic weight driving the High Arbiter instantly to his knees. The marble beneath Cassius completely gave way, trapping the angel’s legs in the shattered stone.
"Ariel!" he barked, not looking away from his prey.
High above the courtyard, the Abyssal Valkyrie was actively dominating the airspace, her six shadow-wings generating a localized eclipse. "Yes, my Sovereign!"
"Lock down the airspace. Do not let a single angel retreat to the higher spheres. If they try to fly, tear their wings off."
"With pleasure," Ariel smiled, her corrupted blue eyes glowing as she dove toward a squad of fleeing Inquisitors.
He looked down at Cassius, pressing his boot harder against the shivering starlight hammer. "Your army is dead, Arbiter. Your scales are broken. Open the gates to the Inner Citadel and surrender the leylines of this Sphere, and I will let your soul serve the Abyss."
Cassius was trembling, but beneath the glowing metal blindfold, his fanatical devotion flared with a sudden, manic realization.
"You think this is the entirety of the law?" Cassius wheezed, golden blood spilling from his lips. "You think the Third Choir is just the soldiers in this courtyard?"
Cassius let go of his hammer.
Instead of defending himself, the High Arbiter slammed his bare hands against the golden doors of the Inner Citadel behind him.
"Directive Zero-One! Awaken the Judiciary!"
[WARNING: Massive Conceptual Shift Detected.]
[The localized geometry of the Sphere of Judgment is actively restructuring.]
Deep within the towering, golden citadel, a deafening, mechanical hum vibrated through the foundation of the world. It was the sound of a hundred thousand celestial scribes, judges, and minor gods syncing their minds into a single, massive conceptual network.
"Elara! Sitrep!" he commanded, stepping back as the golden doors of the citadel began to glow with a blinding, radioactive intensity.
"Master!" Elara shrieked, floating above the battlefield with her alchemical arrays spinning violently around her. "He isn’t fighting you! He’s weaponizing the bureaucracy! He is linking his core directly to the internal administration of the Sphere!"
The ground beneath Kaelen violently shifted. The pristine marble courtyard began to physically fold upward, massive walls of highly compressed reality erupting from the earth to separate the Abyssal Brutes from the citadel.
Cassius’s cracked armor began to violently regenerate, his wounds stitching together with raw, aggressive light as he siphoned the combined mana of the entire Inquisitorial Judiciary. He wasn’t just a Level 115 judge anymore; he was becoming the physical avatar of the entire dimension.
"I cannot defeat you alone, Heretic!" Cassius declared, his voice now echoing with the synchronized, overlapping voices of thousands of angels. He slowly floated into the air, the massive citadel actively restructuring itself into a labyrinth of towering, impenetrable golden walls behind him. "But I do not have to. I am the Arbiter. I command the Heart of Judgment!"
He watched as a massive, conceptual chasm aggressively tore open between him and his Vanguard, isolating the Brutes in the lower courtyard while the Inner Citadel retreated behind a fortress of folding reality.
Cassius wasn’t running. He was changing the rules of the engagement. He was forcing Kaelen into a sprawling, multi-tiered tactical siege against a networked intelligence.
The High Arbiter retreated into the shifting golden maze, his synchronized voice echoing from every wall.
"Welcome to the Judiciary, Abyssal Emperor. Let us see if your monsters can conquer the law."
He stood alone at the edge of the newly formed chasm, looking up at the towering, shifting labyrinth of the Inner Citadel. He didn’t look angry. The dark, world-ending smile on his face only widened.
He raised his hand, tapping into the Abyssal Trinity link to speak to his Harem, who were now separated by the massive, conceptual walls.
"Vanguard. Valkyrie. Stalker. Forge-Master," Kaelen’s voice purred with intoxicating authority. "The Arbiter wants to play a game of strategy. Secure the courtyard. Establish the forward camps. We are going to bleed this bureaucracy dry, one floor at a time."
