Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Chapter 408: We’ll Talk After She Gives Birth

"..." Anne Sutton’s lip twitched. She had no idea how David Hayes could even ask such a thing.

’Him? Reliable?’

’If he were reliable, there probably wouldn’t be a single unreliable person left in the world!’

Anne thought he was even less reliable than Charles Prescott.

’At least Charles was competent. What does David have?’

’He’s only been in this position for a few days, and his ego is already out of control!’

When Anne Sutton didn’t answer, David Hayes quickly explained, afraid she might get the wrong idea, "Anne, I don’t mean anything by it. I just want to help share some of the burden. You’re in Veridia, and you have to take care of the kids and go to work. You don’t have that much time to manage the company, right?"

Anne Sutton replied, "I don’t mean anything by it either. It’s just... you’re always out and about, and you can barely look after Sharon even though she’s about to give birth. If I give you a promotion, you’ll have more responsibilities and even less time for your family! I’m just looking out for you, you know?"

David Hayes was left speechless.

Shut down by Anne Sutton, he didn’t say another word for the rest of the drive.

He had accompanied Sharon Sutton on this trip to see if there was an opportunity for him.

’They’d be better off giving it to me than to someone like Noah Linden, who’s never even worked at the Fawcett Group!’

’After all, I’ve been with the Fawcett Group for so long.’

’But from the way Anne Sutton sees it, I’m just an outsider!’

’In her eyes, I’m not even as good as Noah Linden!’

This displeased David Hayes.

Anne Sutton paid him no mind.

Anne Sutton parked in front of Mrs. Sutton’s restaurant. She helped Sharon out of the car, and they went inside to find their mother.

"Mom!" Sharon Sutton exclaimed. Seeing her mother waiting on tables, she almost didn’t recognize her.

She walked up to her mother. Mrs. Sutton glanced at her and said, "Sharon."

Sharon hugged her mother. "Mom."

Mrs. Sutton looked at the silly girl in her arms and asked, "What’s wrong? Have you been crying?"

Sharon said, "I just missed you so much! How have you been these days?"

"I’m doing great," Mrs. Sutton said. "Go take a seat."

She led Sharon to the break room in the back, and David Hayes followed them in.

Mrs. Sutton said, "Why did you come now? So far along in your pregnancy? I was just telling your sister the other day that we’d come over to be with you when the baby is due."

Sharon said, "I missed you, so I came."

Actually, she hadn’t planned on coming right now, but David Hayes had insisted, so she came.

While they were talking, Anne Sutton stepped out and saw Nathan Fawcett and Ian outside, helping around the restaurant.

Anne Sutton walked over to Nathan Fawcett’s side. "What are you so busy with?"

’He’s actually helping Mrs. Sutton by waiting on customers. He certainly has a lot of energy.’

Nathan Fawcett said, "The restaurant looked busy, so I thought I’d help out."

With Nathan Fawcett acting as a waiter, many of the female customers’ eyes lit up at the sight of him. He was just so handsome!

Anne Sutton glanced at the women who looked like they wanted to eat him alive, then said to him, "You go rest. I’ll take over."

Nathan Fawcett looked at her. "Aren’t you tired? Didn’t you just get back from the airport?"

"How could I bear to let you do all this?" Anne Sutton said, shooing him away and taking his place.

After seeing to the last of the customers, Anne Sutton went into a private room. She saw him sitting off to the side drinking some water and sat down next to him. "Look at you," she said. "You’re out and about for one day, and you didn’t even notice there are already videos of you online?"

"What videos?" Nathan Fawcett asked, puzzled.

Anne Sutton handed him her phone. On the screen was a video someone had filmed of him waiting tables, with a caption calling him the "handsomest waiter on the internet."

Many of the female customers had come just for him. The comment section was even worse, with countless people calling him "hubby" and posting drooling emojis.

Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton’s serious expression and grinned. "What’s wrong? Jealous?"

"Me? Jealous? I’m not jealous! I just think you’re ruining the Linden Group’s image! You have to maintain some dignity, you know?"

"What does my dignity matter? It’s not like you’re jealous, anyway."

Nathan Fawcett sat there, deliberately teasing her.

Anne Sutton glared at him.

Nathan Fawcett asked, "How’s your sister doing?"

"She’s talking with my mom," Anne said. "It’s been a long time since they’ve seen each other."

"Why the sudden visit? I thought they didn’t want to come before?"

Anne had asked Sharon to come with her previously, but David Hayes had been vehemently opposed. Sharon, letting her husband lead her by the nose, had stayed behind.

Anne Sutton said, "David Hayes said that if we can’t find anyone suitable, he can help manage the company."

"Him?" Nathan Fawcett found the idea laughable.

He said to Anne, "Just the other day, Noah Linden was asking me how David even got his current position. Apparently, he’s been very disrespectful toward Noah at the office lately, always trying to stir up trouble."

It was probably because Charles Prescott was gone, so David felt there was no one left to keep him in line. With Anne Sutton and Nathan Fawcett far away, and Noah Linden unfamiliar with the company, he had started to look down on Noah.

Seeing that David Hayes was young, inexperienced, and, compared to his peers, unworthy of his position, Noah Linden had become curious and asked Nathan Fawcett for some background information on him.

Only after learning he was Anne Sutton’s brother-in-law did Noah hold back and avoid confronting him.

Anne said, "I’m sure this trip was his idea. He probably thinks he could do a better job than Noah Linden! He’s so infuriating."

Just the sight of David Hayes made Anne furious.

Nathan Fawcett asked, "When is your sister due?"

"Soon," Anne said. "Not long now."

Nathan Fawcett said, "Noah Linden sent me this."

As he spoke, he showed Anne the photos on his phone.

Anne looked and saw it was footage of David Hayes with Lucy Todd. The two were very intimate, walking arm-in-arm to dinner and even kissing at times.

Anne asked, "When were these photos taken?"

She knew what David Hayes was like before, and these photos looked recent.

"They’re recent," Nathan Fawcett said. "I just thought you should know."

Anne gritted her teeth. "That bastard! Sharon is going through such a hard pregnancy, and yet he... He’s a dead man!"

’His wife is pregnant, and he’s cheating on her. Bad enough. But he still has the audacity to come here and ask me to get him a better position?’

’The nerve of him! Utterly shameless!’

Nathan Fawcett said, "He probably thinks he can get away with it forever."

Anne’s expression darkened. "Sharon is due so soon. I can’t imagine how devastated she’ll be if she finds out."

"Let’s keep it from her for now," Nathan Fawcett said. "We can tell her after the baby is born."

Anne nodded. "That’s what I was thinking, too. It’s just... so disheartening. I was against them getting together from the very beginning... And when he had Sharon ask me for that promotion, I already knew I couldn’t agree to it."

’Just as I thought...’

’A scumbag like him... even if Sharon managed to secure him a job, he wouldn’t feel a shred of gratitude. He’d still betray his own wife without a second thought!’
