Chapter 407: Even Charles Prescott Has a Day Like This
Charles Prescott stood up. "I’m going to find her!"
With that, he left the office.
He soon found his way to Mia Shaw’s office.
As soon as Charles Prescott walked in, he saw Vic was there too.
Mia Shaw looked at him, surprised by his sudden entrance, and asked, "Is something wrong?"
Vic’s gaze also fell on Charles Prescott.
Charles Prescott looked at her and said, "I need to talk to you about something."
In the past, if anyone had dared to touch his woman, he would have made them regret it.
But now, even though Mia Shaw was cheating on him, he was powerless as he watched the other man sitting right in front of him.
If he left this place, he’d never find another way into the industry.
All Charles Prescott could do was endure it.
Mia Shaw asked, "What is it?"
Seeing Charles Prescott’s aggressive demeanor, it seemed like something urgent.
Mia Shaw looked at him, her face full of curiosity.
Fortunately, Vic was tactful. "Since you two have something to discuss, I’ll step out for a bit."
With that, he stood up and walked out.
Once Vic was gone, Mia Shaw’s eyes returned to Charles Prescott. "What’s wrong?"
Charles Prescott said, "Why did you transfer Grace?"
Mia Shaw raised an eyebrow. "Now that she’s joined the company, I have the right to manage her assignments, don’t I? You’re certainly good to her! You even brought her with you when you jumped ship! You two aren’t having an affair, are you?"
Charles Prescott retorted, "You have the nerve to say that to me? Just look at yourself!"
The thought of Vic talking with her in here just a moment ago left Charles Prescott speechless with frustration.
Mia Shaw shot back, "What about me? If you have a problem with Vic, why didn’t you dare say anything in front of him just now? You only dare to pick a fight with me? Charles Prescott, you can’t possibly think this is still the Fawcett Group, where everyone has to bow to you, can you? You should take a good look at yourself and see what you’re worth! I’ll say it again: if you’re not happy, you can leave SV. But once you walk out that door, you’ll have nowhere else to go!"
Charles Prescott’s face darkened as he stared at her.
Mia Shaw said, "You’re a married man now. I couldn’t stand seeing Grace by your side, so I reassigned her to sales! There shouldn’t be any other women around you except for me!"
"You’re such a hypocrite," Charles Prescott said. "You get rid of the people around me, yet you’re all tangled up with some old man."
"I learned it from you!"
Mia Shaw raised an eyebrow, looking at Charles Prescott with disdain.
She was the one with the power to speak now, not Charles Prescott!
’I was so good to him, but he didn’t cherish it. He can’t blame me for being so cruel now!’
Charles Prescott took a deep breath, turned, and walked out.
Henry Underwood was waiting for him outside. "How did it go?"
Charles Prescott asked, "Do you know where she was transferred?"
Henry Underwood replied, "I don’t. I’ll ask her later."
Charles Prescott said, "Forget it. Going to a lower department isn’t so bad."
’If she stayed here, she’d just be bullied by Mia Shaw!’
Charles Prescott stood by the window, looking out at the towering skyscrapers, and suddenly felt it was all so ridiculous.
’Charles Prescott, oh, Charles Prescott, I never thought you’d see a day like this!’
...
After getting off work, Anne Sutton went to the airport. Sharon Sutton gave her a call. "Sis, we just landed."
"I’m waiting for you at the exit."
Sharon Sutton had said she was coming for a visit, and David Hayes was with her. Anne Sutton had come to pick them up.
She waited at the exit for a little while before seeing David Hayes and Sharon Sutton walk out.
Because her belly had gotten bigger, it was now very inconvenient for Sharon Sutton to get around.
Looking at her younger sister, Anne Sutton reached out, took the things from her hand, and said, "What made you suddenly decide to come see me?"
"It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Mom. I wanted to come and visit her."
Sharon Sutton looked at her sister and smiled.
David Hayes said, "Sis."
Anne Sutton said, "Put your things in the trunk."
The last time she had wanted to bring Sharon over, David Hayes had been dead set against it.
Now he was actually willing to accompany Sharon here.
Once in the car, with Anne Sutton driving, Sharon Sutton asked her, "How’s Mom been lately?"
"Her?" Anne Sutton said. "She’s doing great!"
’So much better than when she was in Westhaven!’
Anne Sutton really liked her current life. Her mother no longer had to put up with Sean Sutton’s abuse every day like before.
Sharon Sutton said, "It sounds like she’s put the past behind her! I saw the news before that Dad came over, and I was worried Mom would be upset."
Speaking of which, Anne Sutton casually asked, "By the way, how are things with the Evans family?"
After that last incident, the entire Evans family had scurried back home.
Sean Sutton hadn’t contacted Anne Sutton during this time either.
Sharon Sutton said, "People online found their home and went to harass them several times. He even called the police, and they had to come out a few times before things calmed down a bit."
"Serves them right!" Thinking about that family’s misfortune, Anne Sutton felt a sense of satisfaction.
She had to admit, Anna Linden’s method really worked. It was much more effective than arguing with Sean Sutton!
Now, even with the whole family hiding out in Westhaven, their lives were a living hell.
David Hayes, sitting to the side, asked Anne Sutton, "How have you been lately, Sis?"
Noticing he was asking about her, Anne Sutton said, "Me? I’m doing great! Why the sudden concern?"
She shot David Hayes a meaningful look in the rearview mirror.
David Hayes said, "There have been a lot of changes at the company recently. Didn’t Charles Prescott leave? I didn’t expect him to be gone so quickly!"
Anne Sutton replied, "His leaving didn’t affect you, did it?"
David Hayes’s job had been arranged by Charles Prescott, but it had been at Anne Sutton’s behest.
So, even with Noah Linden taking over, David Hayes’s position wouldn’t be shaken.
David Hayes said, "No! It’s just that I’m not very familiar with this new President Linden."
"What’s there to be unfamiliar with?" Anne Sutton said. "He’s the person Nathan Fawcett assigned. He’s a good guy! If you need anything, you can just go to him."
David Hayes looked at Anne Sutton, gritted his teeth, and glanced at Sharon Sutton.
Sharon Sutton spoke up. "Sis, it’s like this. David said that with Charles Prescott gone, the company is really short-staffed. What he means is, if you need any help, you can always turn to him!"
"..." Anne Sutton was no fool. She said to David Hayes, "What, are you not satisfied with your current job? You want a promotion?"
’Getting him promoted to his current position was already doing him a huge favor!’
But from the looks of it, he still didn’t think it was enough. He wanted to climb even higher.
Perhaps with Charles Prescott gone, David Hayes figured that given his connection to Anne Sutton, it wouldn’t be unreasonable for him to take over Charles’s old position.
David Hayes said, "No, I just think that since you’re all in Veridia, entrusting the company to an outsider seems a bit unreliable. I can help keep an eye on him."
"You mean Noah Linden?"
Anne Sutton was curious.
David Hayes nodded.
Anne Sutton said, "That won’t be necessary. Noah is a good person. I’ve met him."
She had met Noah Linden a few times; he was a very reliable person.
That was probably why Nathan Fawcett had sent him over in the first place.
David Hayes looked at Anne Sutton and asked, "Sis, are you saying you think I’m unreliable?"
